Hotel "art deco" beautiful Restaurant +++ Staff ++ (speak in English and very helpful) Very clean
Almost NOTHING!! just no computer for customers using. It happens often that foreign people can't use Chinese wifi on their devices, so the hotel could let some computers for their customers.
Perfect !! We will come...

Quality of internet connection was terrible.
Great breakfast, amazing views if you have the budget to book a room with river view.
Dated interior, beds not comfortable, WiFi not reliable, staff at the reception..... get your own experience. Almost every day my room key got disactivated as I had either booked breakfast or did laundry and needed to go to the front desk to deposit more money from my credit card. Annoying. Small but good gym, if there weren’t the signs out of order or don’t use as under maintenance on four machines. First room was so smelly that I needed to ask to change the room, which fortunately was possible.
Great location, don’t expect much...

Location is great, nice historic building and good room amenities.
Bed was quite uncomfortable (hard spring matress) and city view was disappointing. Small window in room didn't provide much natural light so room was kind of dark.

Breakfast
Excellent location.
Beds are a bit hard, but that seems to be true of all the beds in hotels in China.
The location is great, I couldn't wish for anything better. Breakfast buffet was quite impressive, a lot of interesting choice of Western and Chinese food. A nice lounge bar and a British bar on the site. The hotel has a charming character, it's not a faceless building with identical boring rooms. The reception stuff always tried their best to help, but I wish they could have a bigger English vocabulary covering more areas than checking in and checking out!
The bed was very comfortable. The location is great. The breakfast buffet very good. Friendly and helpful staff. And most of them could speak English.
The room was a bit old and worn out. The carpet was stained.. Sometimes a long wait for the elevator. I had to take the stairs. A little too high priced.
Unbelievable view from the river room, great location, old building but still have its charming glory, near everything you need Restaurants shopping walk
The smell of the lobby, some old things must be renew
Room size was excellent and a great location for the bund and Nanjing rd
No early check in allowed
the interior beauty of 1930s architecture - and the view of the river... what a view... I paid for it and I loved it (only stayed there because Asotr and Seagull are both currently closed0
the windows did not open more than 10 cm... making it very hard to take photos and appreciate the view...
Location
Incompetence of staff
The position is great. At the end of the Bund.
The breakfast. Most of the food was cold, average. Always better to find a local place to eat.
Great location in Shanghai
Location
Too expensive lounge bar.
Superb view from the small windows of the room. HUGE commendation to the bell boys! They beat the managers and the front office staff; they speak English! They are so helpful!
Reception staff have to look for that only one colleague who can speak English. Not friendly. They behave as if we got in through the back door!! No French restaurant! No access to 18th floor and terrace! Room: be careful with the nail that stands out of the floor, right in the middle of the room! The tap wasn't cleaned from 1935. Small windows.
Location, facilities, and door boys
bath tub two days without cleaning, called reception, even no“sorry”. evenging service missed once, it was ok to me. I called reception only for a bottle of water, had to re call her after 15 minutes.
Location, history and river/pudong view from room window.
All good
The location was excellent, and staff were very helpful.
The lighting is very dim in the rooms so I couldn't read my book , I had to go out to the lobby to read.
Price
Everything was fine
The location at the end of The Bund was great. The Japanese restaurant in the hotel was great and the staff were fabulous.
We arrived to a twin room having booked and paid extra for a kingsize double bed room and the hotel management were not interested in our complaint. We asked to see the manager and were told he was in a meeting for 10 minutes and would see us immediately afterwards but never showed up. There is supposed to be a French Restaurant in the building but there is not. Smoking is allowed in the bar which is supposed to be contrary to Chinese Law for public spaces. We had to move a few times when people came and lit-up and eventually gave up and left. The two lifts were inadequate for the building and you waited a long time at peak periods. It is an old building and the lifts showed it.

Terrible experience in the hotel! Bad staff attitude and inefficient services!
on arrival reception couldn't find my booking. when i asked to check again, he curtly refused. another staff member quickly found the booking. lifts are too small, inordinate waits. breakfast only average.
Good location close to the city, very good breakfast, personal very kind, room was very large with nice view to the city side. Personal was very kind, room clean and tidy. I would like to recommend hotel for all.
Very large, comfortable view with a river view.
The booking through Booking.com was lousy. When I called a couple of days before checking in to ask for an early check in the staff could not find my reservation. I had to call booking.com customers service from China. They did not find it either and said they will contact me later which they never did. Neither the hotel staff nor the booking.com staff was cooperative. they were distant, non compassionate and unhelpful.
Hotel staffs helping to get the taxi
Getting a taxi is difficult
The good things: The hotel is very near from Shanghai's city centre, also very near from Nanjing Lou. I would really say the location is great. The bad things: The staff in front desk is everything but helpful, no English word was spoken the day I arrived. There was a very weird smell in the lobby and the gym, as well as the spa, were small and quite expensive.

The initial appearance on the booking.com pictures.
First of all upon entering the (upgraded) room it immediatly becomes clear this is an old-style hotel dressed up in new clothes. Nothing wrong with that, however; stains in the chairs, couch, left over napkins from previous guests and vile carpet reveal that the hygene and cleaning is still stuck in the past. However not a real issue.... I thought. Wrong; after waking up my ankles felt itchy, I did not yet connect this to the state of the bed but when I entred the shower cubicle I discovered I was sharing this room with another living creature, a giant cockroach. This was the limit, went down to ask for the manager however 'he is in a meeting' and staff started laughing in the embarrassed fashion, in a way I had not experienced anymore in China over the last 10 years in a supposedly 5* hotel. A reminder of the not so service oriented times now mostly gone. (yes we can discuss the charm of that). I decided to check out and book something new. The right choice. This is NOT a business hotel and caters predominantly to chinese tourists (lots of queue jumping at the check in desk). I made the mistake to base my choice on the pictures which was wrong. Breakfast is very limited and of dubious quality, service is limited and hygene is awful. The 'executive lounge' is a joke. Never will stay here again. Can imagine that (without the living animals) it can be an acceptable 3* tourist hotel due to the superb location, but really dont go here if you are on a business trip, much better options available in the same price category.

The location of the hotel as well as the completeness of toiletries provided in the room.
Some staff were friendly but some were not, expected hotel to provide better customer services. booked both rooms for a queen bed but ended up only one room with queen bed provided and there was no room for negotiation- didn’t start of well.

This hotel was probably fabulous in the 50’s but little has changed since then. The room I stayed in was dreadful! Carpet was disgusting, the bed a slab of stone and the overall feel of the room was dark and damp. I’ve honestly stayed in better budget motels. Apart from the location there is nothing good about this hotel. Staff were average and would not recommend this place to others. Look elsewhere.
Nothing like.
1,Poor Welcome. 2, too much bad attitude of Staff. 3,Too much Smell in Rooms lobby and Rooms.

WE RUN AWAY FROM THE HOTEL! VERY VERY OLD! CARPET IS SOOOO DIRTY AND SMELL! THE ROOM WAS VERY SMAL.... VE BOOKED FOR 4 NIGHT BUT CANSEL AFTER 1 NIGHT THERE! BREAKFAST NOT INCLUDED, MUST PAY EXTRA
Location on the Bund is very good and our room view fantastic, staff members very helpfull especially Dillon who even helped us secure a taxi when we were stuck the far side of town.
Hotel more Chinese oriented than our last stay some years ago, not recommended any longer for Europeans

Language barrier with staff sometimes challenging. Person in the room opposite ours appeared to be running a clothing business from the room. Took up the hallway sometimes.

Great location for The Bund and other attraction like E Nanjing Road, Old Town and Peoples Square. Also close to Taintong Road subway station
Prices of breakfast and drinks in the hotel were ridiculously expensive. Carpet in room was stained - could do with a deep clean. Why (in every hotel) is the mini bar so expensive?

Bathrooms are new and clean (i must point out that I was upgraded to Business Floor, not sure how it goes in the regular rooms). Location is good
Poor breakfast for westeners. Staff barely understands english. I was given a smoking room although I specifically ordered a non-smoking room (despite of that there was no strong smoke smell)

I've stayed at this hotel several times and always enjoyed comfortable accommodations. The beds are very comfortable, especially compared to the typically hard mattresses common in Chinese hotels...
Room size was excellent. Front door staff always polite!
English translation skills were poor. Reception staff were just ok.
staff doesnt speack english and they are not friendly at all
communication problem
Location was fantastic
Rooms need updating soon, very old fashioned and worn
Very central location, polite staff and the view of the city. I always feel safe in this Hotel.
The front staff was very helpfull. they work dard to understand the guests requests.
The internet business office. You should drastically improve it or get rid of it altogether. It is unbecoming of you.
Staff very helpful, polite and cheerful. Most spoke some english, particularly at reception. Hotel in the grand art nouveau style. Nice feel.
Permanent bad drains smell in lobby area. Tried the two main restaurants, adequate only. Bar food fair. Breakfast very good. Incessant works, both in and out doors disturbing.
Its location in Kowloon: close to all major shopping, traveling out, walking, view fron the window and outstanding stuff.
No, I liked every thing
great location, rooms absolutely ok, especially the ones with a river view.
The french named but chines produced red wine (in the minibar) was ridiculuously overpriced and among the bottom 5 wines I've ever tasted. The cheese platter (room service) was so poor it was laughable, again insanely overpriced.
Fabulous views of the Bund and Pudong, the soft bed! (a rarity in China)
view, location
lack of hairdryer in 5 star hotel?
Well styled in keeping with period of building
