Bucharest isn't well served at this level of the market, while there are many high-end hotels, independent travellers might end up choosing between self-catering apartments and hostels, so Hotel Carpati is a good find. It has the feel of a family business, and the whole staff recognise guests from soon after check-in.
Despite the brilliant central location, the hotel is in a small street with nothing picturesque beside it, so don't expect a view. Bucharest is gradually improving its appearance, but only slowly. However, get out there, and you'll find major streets, squares parks and sites a short walk away.
Welcoming staff and decor and has wifi mostly available. The hotel is close walking distance to most places of historical and cultural interest. The neighbourhood is an interesting mix of one ultra modern building, several elegant old buildings in need of maintenance, a charming park with pond, monuments, churches, art gallery, theatre, restaurants.
The hotel have lift.
The room's price was 31 euro, but we didn't have 1 euro, therefore we would pay by 50 euro, but the hotel's front wouldn't receive. Finally we should pay by lei. Room's key was too old. There wasn't hot water in the common shower room.
Staff were very helpful and friendly; good position.
Becose is in central of Bucharest.
Wonderfully helpful and freindly staff - despite some language problems - this is very much a Romanian hotel rather than an 'international' (faceless and slick ) hotel run by real people. Its right in the centre - midaway between Calea Victorii and Cismugiu Park, just across the road from universty and Lipiscani district - and yet its on a quiet side street. Its an old building in a deco'ish style but modernised and very clean and (I was there in -8 weather) warm. The 'suite' I stayed in was huge and had two balconies and a big bath room (not just a shower) and exceptional value.
Very, very Clean, price and location excellent value, just in the city centre.. you can walk everywhere. Public transport near. I stayed in single room. Sink in room, W.c and shower outside (in 5th floor 1 shower, 1 gents, 1 ladies toilet in floor). There are also suites with everything inside the room I think. I stayed in november 2009, I don´t know in peak seasons but for me everything was fine, clean and perfect for my stay, no ques at toilet. Breakfast: You have to choose among 4 fixed menus.. I found it perfect for a good morning start. Staff is ok.
I think that regarding location and price, it´s an excellent choice if you want to keep on a budget. Finally I couldn´t pay with credit card, I don´t know really why.
well situated, near to a metro station but in a quiet road. the suite was very spacious and quite good value
there is only 1 double room without being a suite, the other doubles are infact twin, or suites. the twin room I saw was very small and no bathroom. the breakfast was organised rather strangely - you have to chose from 4 menus: 2 with tea or 2 with coffee - the coffee menus have no jam, but either hot dogs or ham! the tea menus have jam and yogurt, they all have vegetables!. if you want coffee instead of tea, you must pay 5 leu extra! and the rather grumpy breakfast man will not let you leave without paying! we had a laugh but it was rather strange
most of the staff spoke english and were helpful, breakfast was simple but adequate. free wifi in the lobby, or if you're lucky you might pick it up in your room if you're on the first 2 floors. overall it was quite a charming place.
there was a mosquito problem in my room. must have killed about 10 of them in 2 days. the hotel was also quite noisy. i also didn't think much of bucharest as a city.
