Tired and Worn...
The location is spectacular if you want access to the castle. If you are good with the transit system then a bus stop is just around the corner. There is a little Android based phone that is a nice touch, but it needs some work to be a guide for the city. That said, it is a nice security touch for having a local phone and data for mapping. Android is not my thing so it was not as intuitive to me. The staff at the front desk were very nice and helpful.
The carpets were dirty, the bedding was well worn and the towels were the same. Do not be confused by dirty in that you will not find garbage all around the place, it was very clean in that regard. The rooms are just very well worn and it is time to replace some of the materials. The shower has a glass wall that does not do well enough of a job to keep water from reaching the floor in quantity. It was also odd that there was no tissue paper. Some communications work could be improved on. We arrived for a two night stay and I had picked the hotel because it had a well rated restaurant attached. The first night we went for dinner there. On the second day we went out and had a long day of seeing the sights with the plan to chill there in the restaurant. When we arrived there was a notice that the restaurant was closed for a private function. We could have ordered room service, but the room is not conducive to eating and frankly did not feel clean enough. We should have been told when we checked in and then we could have gotten something before coming back to the hotel.

I drive through Budapest and stay overnight once or twice a year. Previously, it's always been either one of the Hiltons (I trust the brand) and I was happy enough with both. However, I wanted to try something new and, having read excellent reviews of Hotel Castle Garden, decided to give it a try. Well, not just I was not disappointed, but indeed the hotel exceeded my expectations. I found it to be even better than Hiltons, while it cost me less. I paid for a standard room, but was put in a room with a huge deck , which was a free bonus. Overall, it was exceptional value. My wife also beleives the hotel is very elegant. It's a pity we did not get a chance to try their restaurant for dinner, but breakfast there was very good.
The only - minor! - inconvenience that comes to mind is how lighting is set up in the bathroom, which made a little difficult for me to shave. Not that there was not enough light by the mirror, just the light coming from behind my back was even stronger, thus creating shadows.

The rooms were very clean and exceptionally warm. The walls were thick - so you got a good nights sleep - even if the TV was on in the room next to you, you would not hear it. (I know as my father was in the room next to mine and I could not hear the TV - v imp to me as I am a light sleeper)
It might not be a good location for older people who might struggle going up and down the hill to get a tram/tube. If however you are using taxi's this would not be a problem - and taxi's are very cheap and the journey would only be a short one - there are also busses close by.
