Comfortable bed, great location- close to shops, beach, marina and restaurants
I will never book through Kayak again. I accidentally booked my hotel for one night too long. I didn’t realize this until checking in. Even though the hotel said they would not charge for the extra night because I clearly wasn’t staying there, Kayak refused to work with the partner to refund me. This was an incredibly frustrating customer service experience.
Located before the hustle of Waikiki
I liked that the hotel was located near the harbor. A short 1 mile walk form downtown Waikiki and not too crowded with many surrounding hotels. Definitely an adult resort, although I did see a few kids. Staff was super friendly, views of the marina and ocean were great. Access to the beach just a short walk although from beaches on O'ahu this was the worst strip of ocean I visited. I'd suggest staying here and enjoying the beach elsewhere. Liked the details of the ukulele, sea shells and sarongs as décor. Room was ready early. Room was quiet and simply decorated with all white giving a feel of space. Clothes line in the shower for wet swimsuits was a plus!
The hallways were VERY dark and room numbers a bit tricky to see. Valet parking only at $35/day.
Disappointed
The view was beautiful, valet staff were great.
Resort fee not presented at check in, expensive parking. Staff very unaccomodating for early check in. Asked us to call multiple times throughout the week, up to the actual 3pm check in time which we were asked to wait for our room anyways, while others in line after us were getting their room keys. A double room was booked via Kayak but wasn't available at check in so we were given an "upgraded" suite with a sofa bed. The mattress pad was stained with urine and the linens were not the cleanest. The furniture is all white so stains were noticeable on the pillows. Felt very dirty. Very disappointed in the service of this hotel under their new mainland management.
Another one bits the dust, new management ruins the concept
The location was great
This property was aquired by diamond resorts and is the next step in scamming a new demographic. https://www.thestreet.com/story/13624491/1/is-apollo-returning-to-its-junk-roots-with-its-acquisition-of-diamond-resorts.html
Once of the best hotels I have ever stayed at
From the incredible concierge and front desk staff to the warm service and incredible food poolside to the ultra-luxury modern (but not in a cheesy, cheap way) rooms that were comfortable and expertly furnished they did not miss a spot. I would recommend it as the #1 hotel in Honolulu hands down
Expensive
Staff helpful though it did take half hour to find the reservation. Clean and extra nice room. Primo location
Very pricey even for Waikiki. Extra loud bar area
Relaxing Stay
The Modern is off the beaten trail and appreciated how relaxing the atmosphere was. The pool area is beautiful and calm, and if you need to relax further the sunset pool is just the ticket. All restaurants and bars are excellent in the Modern too.
Staff was excellent
Beds could have been more comfortable
Overall nice - amenities & service suffer during p
Beautiful hotel. Study bar is nice with good cocktails, rooms are nice and housekeeping is good. Difficult to find space at pools and they don't have chairs on the beach. During peak times like Christmas / NY it makes it tough to secure space. Service at the restaurant by the pool was very slow. Painfully slow... I would return but challenged to stay there again @ $500/ night unless everything is perfect.
a very hip hotel for young couples
Love it. Honolulu is known for old resorts and hotels. Modern's building isnt really new, however, all the internals have been renovated so that it feels "modern". Great stay for young hip couples.
Parking is a little expensive. $35 and they charge you everything you get your car in and out. Other than that, we had an awesome experience.
OMG heaven on earth!
I love everything about The Modern Really cool friendly atmosphere, all the staff are super nice. The room is very clean, modern, crisp, has pretty of room. Our partial view room had a nice balcony and as suggest had views to the left of the water. Great TV and selection of channels, coffee maker. Very well sound proofed Bathroom is large, great shower. Room service is fantastic, actually its the same menu available in the pool area, perfectly prepared and very high quality. The pool areas and bars are amazing The is away from the Main part of Waikiki, overlooking the marina, making it less busy and more relaxing Do yourself a favour and book in
Not sure, maybe the bed is a little firm. Just being picky
