Location and service
So many kids and not enough chairs and umbrellas by pool
Enjoyed the stay
Elegant surroundings, friendly staff, excellent location. We are glad we booked with the breakfast plan because the buffet with “Royal” options was awesome.
I’m a Starwood member and was told at checkin that I’d receive a 10% discount on restaurants, spa etc at the Royal as well as the affiliate hotels. The gentleman said it would be deducted from the final bill; however, at checkout no discounts were applied. I questioned this and was told I needed to present my card at the time of each service and the deduction was not automatic. The bad info I received at checkin cost me at least $60.
The staff was wonderful and the Mai Tai bar was a great place to sit and watch the sun go down. Rooms were very comfortable
This place is expensive, it really helps to be in the mindset that you aren't bargain hunting when you stay here. If you are here in peak season and want to take advantage of beach chair or umbrella rentals you may want to book them before you are onsite.
Wonderful Stay-cation
My girlfriend and I agree that The Royal Hawaiian is our go-to hotel for our stay-cations. We LOVE it there. It's hard to even consider other local hotels. The staff, the facilities, the service, and the way that the hotel feels secluded even though we're in the middle of Waikiki... there's so much to love about this place. This is our second year in a row staying here, and we'll definitely be back. Mahalo to everyone there for continuing to impress us.

on the beach
They charge for a beach chair 45.00 daily. very crowded at pool and pool is very small.
Have dreamed of staying at the Royal Hawaiian for many years. The vacation more-than lived up to expectations. The adjacent mall and food court provided entertainment, shopping and reasonable meal choices.
Mid-week was peaceful and serene. By the weekend the place was filling up with lots of tourists. Can't believe how many people were in Waikiki in general.
A bit disappointing
The hotel itself is quite beautiful. Though there is a very small pool, the pool deck is very comfortable and private. There is a fabulous view of Diamond Head on the beach. It's also not a mega hotel, so the number of people wasn't too overwhelming. The delicious muffins were a very nice touch, as well as the staff attention on the pool deck. Great location.
Our room seemed small. There were too many reasons we had to call for help, including repairs to the room and keys not working. All resolved, but annoying. I don't think a hotel of this caliber should be having these kind of problems. The price tag is very steep and I wasn't convinced it was worth it.
Excellent Hotel
Really good rooms and service.
The gym was not good!
Great historic hotel!
Location is tops, literally the best part of Waikiki Beach fronts the hotel. Amazing history, second only to the Moana Surfrider. Very romantic, but not much stuff to do for kids.
AC in historic wing could be better. Pool is very small. Not sure why families bring kids here, they'd be much happier at one of the bigger resorts (including the Sheraton right next door).
Waikiki
Though we were in the heart of Waikiki, it did not feel like we were anywhere near the hustle and bustle that is the Waikiki of today. It truly felt like a getaway. Service was stellar, the staff was friendly and attentive, the setting and atmosphere can't be beat. You've spoiled us; we can never stay in another Waikiki hotel. TRH is the one for us.
Minor gripes about cleanliness. Found a charm and a bobby pin left by previous room occupants, and toilet had a few hairs and spots also from previous occupants.
Luxurious, perfect location
Historic, iconic hotel, still the best
Nothing
Overpriced/Overrated
The beach the ambiance
Everything else
The Royal Hawaiian was a stunning stay to end a perfect holiday in the Hawaiian Islands.
Bar closes early at 11:15, not at 12 as they will tell you.
It was absolutely beautiful, the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in!
nothing! it was wonderful
Good service, the only hotel with beach service and for free.Excelente location . Perfect bed .
Bathroom need reconstruction .
Lovely rooms
We stayed in a partly ocean-view room and loved the location of this hotel. The Waikiki Beach is right in front and they provide beach chairs and towels at no additional cost. The room is cleaned up two times a day, and that's perfect with the guests who frequently jump in and out of the ocean all day long shedding sand. The food at the beachside restaurant is also great. Also there are many great restaurants within walking distance. My husband and I had a great time.
The position of the hotel, the view from the room and the cleaning staff had a wonderful attitude to the guests and there duties. The reception staff were also excelent.
The refurbishment has torn out the soul of the Hotel. The new menue leaves a lot to be desired. The staff at the concierge desk were not of the standard we had become to expect from our previous stays at this hotel.
Location, prestige, appearance, history.
Confusion about non-smoking room during check-in. Although non-smoking preference indicated during booking, we were directed to a smoking room at first, then a non-smoking for one night on a lower floor and moved the next day to another floor (inconvenient unpacking and packing).
The location is amazing, the are staff fantastic. It's a piece of history you shouldn't miss if you want to visit Wakiki. It was the perfect honeymoon!
