welcome by the host + room was a duplex quite spacious.
Welcome, breakfast : excellent
I book 60 nights/year via booking and the rating of other guests represented by booking is almost always OK. This time it was completely different, it is a terrible hotel.
The hotel was a disaster for following reasons: Very loud during the night, the rooms (in the bed) had insects, the beds were too short and when you mention this the host gets rude. they were reluctant of printing a bill. I am happy I got out in one piece. The worst hotel I have stayed in a long time.
Very nice homy hotel. Very convenient for a stay on the way from Belgium to France (just half an hour drive from Lille) The staff speaks good English.
Everything mostly. Be warned about some rooms if you need to be up to the toilet frequently during the night. They are those with stairs up to the beds with a small lounge and bathroom downstairs. There is a daft old alsatian dog which barks a lot. But as far as you can trust any dog he is harmless. The directions to the hotel from booking.com say first left after the Shell garage. In fact its an Esso garage. Whilst we were there better visibily signs for the hotel went up which should make finding it a lot easier.
If its hot you may need to open windows which will let in traffic noise, lots of it first thing in the morning. We had the breakfast the first morning but at 8 euros pppn. it seemed a bit pricey and we didn't bother after that.
The owner was wonderful. She gave us alot of interesting information about the area and the history of the hotel.
The beds were a little uncomfortable.
The room was very comfortable, with both a sitting room and an upstairs bedroom. The hosts were lovely. The location was good too, just a 20 minute drive from Ypres (you will definitely need a car from here).
Very close to the fair. The taxis are free fron and to the hotel, a big plus!
Very friendly folks and a huge room by European standards. Free fast internet was also a plus.
No bar. But free taxi was available so not so bad.
This quirky 'hotel' might be a bit out of the way, but is of a high standard in a quality building - I particulary liked the Belgian marble staircase (built in 1946). The free WI-FI internet access works very well indeed, and offers a really fast connection. Part of the deal is a free taxi to and from a local restaurant of your choice! Breakfast is better than average for this price of hotel, too. Well worth seeking out.
