Clean, friendly but shabby
Comfortable bed, clean linen and nice towels. Mattress was just right for my back. Hot shower with good level of water power. Plenty of room in back of hotel which was quiet during the night. Freshcooked breakfast which was perfectly done and plentiful. Large pot of tea that was hot and good tasting. Friendlybstaff and attentive service. Very welcoming and will use again.
Place is shabby in parts and decor is tired. But this did not spoil the rest I enjoyed. A bit of doing up would make the place perfect for the price.
Great location for Dockyard and restraunts
Good breakfast, location, and size of room. A historic hotel with possibilities. .
Bathroom needed updating from the 1930s.
Modest unpretentious hotel with fairly tired decor, though very clean. Good value for money particularly so having its own carpark. We were visiting the Historic Dockyard and as a location this hotel couldnt be bettered..
The hotel is quite old and facilities are also old style. But it was very comfortable and clean in the room. The traditional English breakfast was also nice.
It was tatty, the entrance was scruffy not at all like a hotel entrance. It all appeared very worn run down frayed carpets, damp spots all around.Expensive for what it was, would not stay there again.
Booking process was easy, on arrival the owner/staff were very polite and friendly although breakfast was poor the staff were apologetic and polite but still not capable of the level of guests staying in the hotel, parking was by the hotel which meant we could move our luggage easily. And the views over the dock were nice and the room was warm with plenty of hot water available.
Room was in very poor decorative order, and the bathroom even worse paper coming off the wall, dusty and generally dirty, ceiling was brown water stained and plaster coming away, there was still shaving foam from the previous guest that stayed on the wall for the 2 days of our stay I wanted to clean it myself. Breakfast was a nightmare the hotel couldn't cope with the number of guests and cups and cutlery were dirty, orders forgotten toast served as we finished.
helpfull staff, clean rooms, location, room size, good breakfast
in need of decoration
Breakfast, the window view
Shabby, worn and very overpriced
Sunny large room., with views of the harbour. Good breakfast. Friendly staff Centrally located for dockyard & gun wharf
Opposite bus & train stations, & 24 hour cafe so very noisy at night. Toilet wouldn't flush properly on arrival. (Fixed next day) Paintwork needs attending to. Very shabby in places
Good access to portsmouth attractions, good staff
The rooms were very tired looking and need renovation. front bedrooms very noisy at night.
old-fshioned, unhurried and anonymous.
Tired and in need of some tlc - a number of things in the room were broken e.g. lights and the tv remote.
