Set on the seafront in San Benedetto del Tronto, Hotel Progresso is an impressive Art Nouveau building built in 1923. It offers a private beach and a restaurant specialising in fresh seafood. But even with the rainy weather, there is a distinct electricity in the air as storms move over land from the Adriatic, and I confess to disregarding weather to enjoy our adjoining terrace more than I would have originally thought given the forecast.”
