Friendly host; very nice design; great breakfast
It was perfect. The hosts were friendly and made us feel at home. It's the best hotel we have stayed at. Perfect location. Stunning room , beautiful hotel. We will be booking again in the New Year. Highly recommend.Just make sure you park in correct place. Our car was towed by police but even with that blip it was perfection.
We were given a warm welcome by one of the owners as well as useful guidance for our stay in Bruges. He also arranged for us to dine nearby(in an excellent restaurant off the tourist trail) as we had arrived after normal dinner time in Bruges. The house is obviously a labour of love and is comfortable in the extreme. Breakfast is a relaxing affair of the highest quality. We were given early breakfast on the morning of departure, advice on the train connection to Brussels and a taxi was called for us. All in all, a very pleasant and comfortable experience.
I have nothing negative to say about Huis 'T Schaep.
The size of the rooms were really good. As well the quietness in the hotel is very good even it is situated in the middle of the town. The breakfast was being served by the owner and it was very good.
The first and very important thing I didn't like was that the owner forgot that I had paid for the room at the time of arrival. Before we handed back the keys he asked me to pay again. Even I insisted and said that I had already paid for the room he kept saying he would accept credit card payment, too. He didn't even listen to what I was saying and also, he didn't even look at me. Then, he saw his handwriting on the reservation form and said sorry. For me, the excuse came too late. It shouldn't happen at all. He should have checked his handwriting before he insisted on the second payment.
This hotel is lovely. John, who greeted us, seemed to genuinely care about both the hotel and his guests. We didn't feel like paying guests, we felt like we were visiting friends. The location is perfect, no more than 200m from parking and a short and enjoyable walk from the centre of the city. We stayed in the Coucke suite which was expensive, but worth it. The hotel and room were so clean, it was like we were the first people to stay there. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Note that they like to be paid cash on departure - this is made clear at the time of booking, but some reviewers seem not to have read the booking notes and were caught out by this.
I cannot find any fault with this hotel.
If we had to sum up our stay in one word, it would be - wow!!! Attention to detail; attentiveness of staff; excellent room facilities and decor; history attached to the building and to Bruges; outstanding breakfast - we just cannot find fault with anything. The restoration work done so far is just impeccable, a lot of love and pride has gone into it, which will be carried on in the works yet to be done.....but don't think that unfinished work might spoil your stay, because it wasn't until we were shown around the house that we realised there was still work to be done. Don't take notice of negative feed back or even give such feed back on the style and decor of the house, because it coouldn't be any other way.
Nothing at all.
This is a very special place. My friend and I requested a tour from John, one of the owners, before we left. Each room is luxurious and distinctive, the bathrooms large and well designed, with great showers. The breakfast was much more than the croissants and coffee we were expecting. We had fresh fruit, yogurt with fruit, our choice of eggs and breads. This is a great place to stay for anyone desiring comfort, calm, good food, and great location in Bruges. I absolutely recommend it.
From the first step through the door, to the sad departure, this stay was truly an exceptional experience. John and Rob were excellent hosts and very helpful throughout our stay. The cleanliness as well as design and decoration of the rooms were impeccible. The house is beatuifully and lovingly restored, decorated and historically significant. The Rubens Suite where we stayed was beautiful, charming, extremely large and comfortable. Bathroom and shower were new, modern, and spotless. John provided a tour and history of the residence, and it is furnished with period antiques as well as stained glass and hand painted tiles from the original owners. This was an exceptional experience and I would highly recommend to all Brugge visitors.
There is nothing that I did not like about this hotel and I spent 8 hours researching where to stay in Brugge, so save yourself time, look at this location first!
Value for money and the many interesting features of the building.
Incredible location, very big and rooms, went there with my 3 kids, but specially a very personalized service and great tips from the hosts.
