Chicago Lake Shore Hotel

The free shuttle service to Chicago was awsome, I didn't have to pay for a cab, though tips are appreciated. The breakfast was very good and discounted but not free.

The air conditioner didn't work, the toilet wouldn't flush, the décor is dated from the 70's, TV is over the air. Two star material at best!

Unique

Location was good for what we needed. Beds were comfortable. Room was clean but a little rough around the edges.

I probably wouldn't stay here again. I switched from another hotel in the area to save some money. I would not have paid the price I did if this hotel was in a different location. Overall it was comfortable and relatively clean. Definitely a unique property. Food at the cafe was not something I would go back for.

Your best Hyde Park option if you are on a strict

There is no other hotel in the Hyde Park/U Chicago area that is under $100/night. The hotel is within walking distance of the University on the north side of Hyde Park, and has a free shuttle to the University that runs three times a day. It was clean. Front desk staff was courteous, friendly and helpful. The hotel sits on Lake Shore Drive so there is a view of the lake; unfortunately the hotel room windows do not face it.

The security door did not latch unless you pulled it shut behind you. The toilet leaked every time you flushed it. The shower head squealed every time you took a shower. The bathtub plug leaked, so a bath required constantly running water. The vanity light took 5 minutes to turn on after you flipped the light switch. Staff left odd assortments of towels, some days too many for needs and other days didn't leave washcloths at all. You need to Google Map Lake Shore "Cafe", not "hotel", to find the correct location of the lobby entrance. It is actually around the corner from the LaQuinta Inn that also shares the same building. Skip the cafe and walk 1 1/2 blocks south on Cornell to Bridgeport Coffee House for your breakfast; you will be glad you did.

Avoid unless homeless

Close to Lack front Bike Path so that I could minimize time at the hotel

I didn't like anything the staff was rude even the manager. It is more like a motel than a hotel, I didn't feel safe there. You have to carry your Luggage up the stairs if your room is on the second floor. The entry door to my room did not seem secure. Booked this hotel through Kayak, my trip was for 6 nights, we stayed overnight waiting to get into another hotel. We checked out the next morning and Kayak assisted us in finding a better one. "What a dump"

You had to leave the hotel room go outside to the office to get ice. I hate that the owner could care less about improving this dump

Location.

Poor remodel... door know is half on, you can see through the bathroom door. The toilet paper roll is mounted FOUR FEET from the stool. Smelt like dead fish. Peeling ceiling.. beds were horrible. Talked to staff. They gave us free breakfast that was a buffet... but the 630 open was not set up until 745.. (they were running behind) needless to say we did not get our free breakfast before we had to leave.

Really, nothing, very bad hotel in all aspact

The Managment and the front desk staff, I was promissed not to be charged for early arrival as I called them on the phone and they told me no charge, but when I arrived they did charge me for one extra night, also I have asked for smoking room, and they provide me with none smoking room, then they charged me with $150 US for smoking in the room, without informing me , this is a serious issue, and they keep charging my credit card without mny knowldge, but I received massages from my bank about these charges. I am nnot happy about my stay and will never stay in this hotel in the futcher, and will pass the massage to all.

This was the worest stay that I ever had. It was in the midel of the worst slum in Chacago. old dirty smely

I told them after i was in the room the first night that I was not going to stay in that dump one more night and they charged for the week. I feel that we should get our money back. I am going to wright to Ramada. I will never stay in anouther Ramada agin!!!

I did not like anything from this hotel

We book for 4 nights, but we left on first morning. bad smelly, noisy, not clean, strange people staying there, very noisy neighbors, not A/C at all, Internet not available. Never again.

I did not like anything about this hotel, in fact we left the next day.

The hotel staff was not helpful when we asked for directions, they did not answer the front desk phone on 5/6 times, there was a rodent in our room and they would not refund our money, the heat was out and we slept in a frozen room and they would not refund our money, and there was a water leak in our room which ruined leather boots and a coat and they. We left the hotel on the last night.

The fact that the website lied about it's location. The decor is very shabby and the hotel run down. There is a continuous smell of accrid smoke throughout the hotel and the rooms.
