Quinta Sao Goncalo

A fabulous and very impressing house with a beautiful and well kept garden.The Quinta and its rooms are in an excellent condition with a luxurious atmosphere. Sitting on the loggia of the "superior room" or on the terrasse opens a splendid view over Funchal and its harbour and when having breakfast, one could stay there for hours. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The owner of the Quinta came by every morning in order to see whether everything was fine. There is one good and one excellent restaurant in walking distance with mostly native guests so there is no need to go to Funchal for taking meals and this avoids having to visit the touristic oriented restaurants in Funchal.

The walk to Funchal is only 25 minutes but uncomfortable because one must walk on streets with no side-walk. However, this is the price you must pay in consideration for staying in a location outside Funchal that offers more personal atmosphere than a hotel. In any case, bus connections are good and if you have a car, it is only 10 minutes to Funchal that offers good parking possibilities.

Very nice, comfortable and clean with a beautiful breakfast served on a patio overlooking the port at Funcal. The owner was friendly, helpful and resourceful.

It's close to a noisy street.

It provided excellent service with a friendly owner. Most suited to a quiet break for couples.

Excellent place for people who want to stay outside the touristic district and who don't like huge crowded hotels. Fantastic atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Beautiful view over Funchal. Walking distance to the restaurants area in Funchal about 20 min and 30 back.
