The views from the hotel, closeness of the lake and access to mountains, freedom to come and go as we pleased.
Very little! Having spent a lovely family four night stay at Dww Hotel some years ago, we looked forward to our overnight stay on 08-06-2010. We were very disappointed - with the accommodation, the breakfast preparation, the general lack of attention to detail and value for money. We shall no longer recommend this hotel and certainly shall not book again.
The hotel was tired looking, our room had damage to the wall where the door banged open. The bathroom was cheaply decorated and like the rest of the hotel in need of refurbishment, quite old fashioned, tho might suit the older residents. The hotel manager Russel Theron, was less than helpful when we arrived to find the lake view room we booked was unavailable. He showed little concern and tho' he gave us another room over looking the road he made absolutely no effort to compensate us in any way. The next day he was off for 2 days!! it took a lot of effort, on his return, to have the bill amended as he felt he couldn't make any changes. Who is managing this hotel then? We checked out as soon as possible.
The staff were very friendly and efficient - good and quick service at breakfast and dinner - both were extremely nice - very satisfied with the service and staff - room was comfortable and keep very clean
Hotel is in a perfect setting with great views and beautiful grounds running down to Derwent Water. Rooms are comfortable and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Our second stay at the Derwent, there will be more.
Bed could have been firmer, bit soft for me.
Located right on the edge of the Derwentwater Lake is The Derwentwater Hotel. Guests can stroll through the beautiful grounds, watching wildlife scurry about, and head down to take a walk along the lakeshore. This location offers a lot to guests from fine food to the stunning property, and more.
The hotel houses 47 rooms. Some rooms have gorgeous views of the lake. Guests can book superior apartments as well. The apartments have kitchens with all that’s needed to prepare meals. There are rooms that are dog-friendly for those traveling with their animals. All rooms are furnished differently. They have either tubs or showers, so guests wishing to have one or the other should request that at booking. There is free WiFi, as well as TVs with digital programming.
Every day, The Derwentwater Hotel serves a full breakfast to its guests. Note there is a fee for this. There is a restaurant located on the property, as well as a bar for some cocktails. For anyone who wishes to eat outside the hotel, there are plenty of choices that aren’t too far away. The Restaurant at the Cottage in the Wood is less than three miles from the property. There’s also Fellpack, Kat’s Kitchen, and eS Bar that are all within walking distance.
The grounds of The Derwentwater Hotel are magnificent and allow guests to wander around a relaxing setting. There are other places to go in the are. These include Castlerigg Stone Circle, Church Bay, the Theatre By The Lake, and Hope Park. There’s also Cumberland Pencil Museum, and Keswick Museum and Art Gallery.
