The setting and the views, cleaning staff were excellent!
Some members of staff were appalling. The receptionist who checked us in was the most ill-manered woman we ever met, it seemed we were disturbing her from whatever she had been doing.. One of the breakfast staff was ignorant and ill-mannered also, she would snap at you if you asked her for anything. Based on our first impression at reception, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and both members of need should be made complete a hospitality course.
The views of the lake were great, even from our relatively 'low' balcony. This is the advantage of a hotel on the hill! Of course it means walking back up the road after a belly full of dinner in town is hard work! Although not in central Limone, it is close enough to be a brisk 15 min walk to the first set of shops and restaurants, and only an extra 5 or 10 minutes to the busier parts. I also liked the hotel facilities: swimming pools (smaller, but colder(!) indoor pool and a large outdoor one) and pizzeria if you don't fancy walking into town for a meal. The gym looked ok but I didn't use it (you must pay for using these facilities which I thought ought to be compliementary to guests).
I did not like the fact that there was no garage to store my bicycle - had to leave it on the balcony or in the room. The in-room safe had no instructions on how to operate it. The towels provided were like giant tea-towels! Adequate for a shower, but for poolside use, bring your own. Using the air-condintioning costs extra - beware (and it is hugely ineffective anyway!). Our room was beneath a larger terrace for other rooms and it was quite noisey when people drag furniture about. The hotel has many rooms (about 175) and as such, is designed to cater for lots of people - so the cooked buffet breakfast items (basically eggs, bacon and sausage bits) are constantly 'out of stock' and you have to wait quite a while for more to be cooked.
We enjoyed our stay in La Limonaia a lot. Nature around the hotel was awesome. Especially the water fall which located very near of our room. Really beautiful place.
The breakfast was pretty poor quality. Also I would not recommed to eat at the evening buffee! It was really bad and also the atmosphere there was not tempting at all. In the city there are really nice and good restaurants with great atmosphere and delicious Italian food. It was nice to walk to the restaurants from the La Limonaia.
Good facilities, and the view from the room balcony was worth the stay alone
Great & helpfull staff; perfect location for visiting venezia
