Better than expected-good for stay near Camden
First of all I would like to say that this hotel is one of the cheapest we have ever had in London. We have paid a lot more for a lot less in the past. Sure the hotel lacks some 'glamour' but for a quick overnight stay at the last minute it was very good. It is only a 20 min walk from Camden station and as we had to attend a venue at the Dublin Castle Pub, it was very local. Booked two rooms, one at below first floor and one at upper levels. Our room on the upper levels was really nice and clean and was warm. The other room was down in what would have been the basement when the property was a home. This room had traffic noise and grubby net curtains but the whole room and bathroom was very clean. Traffic noise on some floors is the be expected as when all said and done, this hotel is on a main road in London! Bed sheets were exceptionally clean with no traces of bugs or anything else. Towels etc were also spotless. Bathroom had soaps and washing liquids already provided and extra toilet rolls (nice to know as so many hotels don't have enough in a bathroom). Our room had twin beds and the mattresses were very comfortable and my husband (who has disc trouble in spine) slept well. Breakfast in an outside area which was very clean.was toast (with real butter, jam/marmalade), cheeses, ham, juice, hot drinks and range of cereals. To be honest at only paying (less) than £55 per room, we never expected even this! We were allowed as much cereals and toast as we could possibly eat so not having a full cooked breakfast was not an issue at the cheap prices we paid. Staff were very, very good and the night watchman very professional. All in all, after a lifetime of working and going in and out of London, we thought this was good value for the money (nearby basic hotels were asking £180+ per room per night). The upshot is that when my husband, who works in the City has to stay over in London, he is quite happy to re-book this hotel.
