Paradise Perfect
The staff is very friendly and we loved how they all keep the resort impeccably clean! They were great!
The Bars could stay open after 10pm... They all close at 10, but the one at the beach, but thats only for Royal Level customers, which, thank goodness we were!
Terrible rooms, rude staff, and pushy salesman.
I don't review resorts often but the Occidental Punta Cana is an exception to the rest. After flying in, we waited in line to check in for an hour. We were then taken to our dark, dated room that was supposed to have one king bed, only to find two twin size beds pushed together to form one giant bed. Normally this would not be so bad if it were not for the fact that if you laid anywhere near the middle you would simply fall through, as the beds slid apart. The next morning we waited in line for another hour at the front desk in hopes of getting the room we paid for, only to be told to come back tomorrow. Relaxing on the beach was also impossible, since every five minutes a pushy salesman would walk by trying to sell any junk you could need. Again, this would not be so bad if they simply moved along as you said "no thank you" but this was not the case, on one occasion we were lectured for five minutes on how saying "no thank you" was rude. After finally deciding to go to bed, we were awoken at 4am by loud screaming and the sound of a fist fight in the common area of the building our room was in. The third morning we finally got a new room with one king beg, but in this room the safe was broken, and the door knob inside the bathroom was ripped off. Later that night we also learned that the resort turned off the water supply to the room after 1AM. The moral of the story is that if you have a family or want to relax, spend the extra money and stay at a 4 or 5 star resort.
Originally constructed in 2001, Occidental Punta Cana was recently renovated in late 2016. The resort's relatively low rates and beachfront setting keeps families and partiers alike flocking to the property. Most guests at the resort are also visiting from Russia and Canada.
Occidental Punta Cana sits right on Bavaro Beach, Punta Cana’s most popular stretch of sand with restaurants, casinos, and bars. Coco Bongo, a famous Caribbean nightclub with epic Las-Vegas style shows, is a short 10-minute drive from the resort while a beautiful breathtaking oceanfront golf course is a 35 minute drive. Adrenaline junkies can get their fix at a nearby adventure park that has zip lines, horseback riding, a paintball field, and a short bungee jump. The Punta Cana International Airport is roughly a 25 minute drive.
Like many other massive resorts in the area, there are a number of features at Occidental Punta Cana. The gorgeous sandy beach is the main draw where free non-motorized water sports include stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and Hobie Cat catamarans. The resort’s three pools offer something for everyone. One pool is a huge party pool with a swim-up pool bar and cold-water whirlpools, while the others are more relaxed and include children areas. The resort also offers a spa, gym, kid activities, and 11 restaurants to choose from as part of the all-inclusive plan.
Accommodations at the resort are simple and modern with a mix of varieties. All rooms feature either pool, garden, or ocean-view. All necessary traveling amenities are included in the rooms and upgraded rooms will feature more.
