An interesting town. A good trip out to Thale (easy by train) is recommended. Not much english is spoken but everyone was very helpful. It and the town fully fulfil the article in the Sunday Telegraph of Feb. 14th 2010. Article by Simon Winder "MY Kind of Town".
Excellent accommodation, copious breakfast, spacious car park. Beautiful old building in the town centre, close to everywhere. Highly recommended.
The room was lovely and comfortable, the food was excellent and the service fantastic, there was a nice beer garden (courtyard really) which was very pleasant and had an automatic cover to shelter you if it rained, it's in a very nice location ideally placed halfway between the centre of Quedlinburg and the train station/road access. Quedlinburg is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited. It's also wonderful for access to the Harz Mountains.
The only thing which was unfortunate was that we arrived on the climactic night of a rock festival taking place right outside the hotel, so we needed the hotel's fine selection of wines to be able to sleep, but on all the subsequent nights it made us appreciate the peace and quiet even more.
The window of the room faced the plaza, it is really nice. The breakfast is good. The restaurant of this hotel is recommended by a book concerning the Harz food. You can order the meal in a smaller size and of course cheaper. The meal is a bit salty for me, but my taste is light.
The room was clean, bed comfortable, and wireless internet was available. Breakfast was outstanding. Free parking in back, too. Nonsmoking rooms are available, but smoking is allowed on the premises.
While the hotel may be 300+ years old, the rooms inside are completely modern, and hence not old-world charming like we had anticipated in this lovely, half-timbered town. You have to pay for wireless internet, and if you like to read in the evening, the lighting was poor.
A stay at Hotel Zur Goldenen Sonne places you in the heart of Quedlinburg, steps from Quedlinburg Old Town and Harz-Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
