My wife and I stayed at the JW Marriott Singapore for 3 days in February and consider it one of the best hotels we've ever visited. The hotel is located in South Beach, within walking distance of many top sites: Merlion fountain, Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Hawker food locations and Raffles (home of the Long Bar and Singapore Sling). The rooms were modern and comfortable, with fully equipped bathrooms and views (from the 15th floor) over the city. The lobby is decorated with modern art, including a spectacular entry. We especially enjoyed the elevators, decorated with scenes of sea life and lit with fixtures that change color, bringing out different creatures based on the light color. The hotel is adjacent to the Esplanade MRT station for quick access to other parts of the city, and right across the street from the Big Bus tour starting point at Suntec City. Especially noteworthy is the Executive Lounge on the 2nd floor. One of the widest varieties of foods I've ever seen in a lounge - breakfast, tea and hors d' oeuvres. A combination of Asian and Western cuisines with a reasonable offering of fruit, cheeses and desserts. However, the highlight was the service staff - Hazel, Fifi, Kay, Qiyi, Elyssa and Gab - who got to know you personally, were quick to fill a coffee cup or a wine glass, and offered ideas and suggestions on experiencing Singapore. Marriott in general has very well trained staff, but this group was definitely in the top 1%. One night we had dinner in Akira Back, located below the hotel. The cuisine is a fusion of Korean and Japanese, and our taste buds were thrilled with Tuna Pizza, Seared Diver Scallop, the Perfect Storm Roll (Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, Salmon belly aburi and Chipotle mayo) and the Beef Cheek with Soy Bordelaise. While a number of friends have told us it is "impossible to find bad food in Singapore", Akira Back was multiple steps above very good, offering a fabulous evening where we can both heartily recommend and look forward to revisiting. The restaurant has other locations in select cities around the world. If you are planning to visit Singapore, we would highly recommend the JW Marriott South Beach.
Pros. breakfast buffet is really nice and they do a great job on the executive lounge
Cons. Room was dark, lighting could've been better
