The place had bags of character, the room was spacious with a comfortable bed and the owners were friendly and welcoming. They took time to talk and showed an interest in what we were doing which was commendable.
There is a slight sense of parsimoniousness about the place - no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, (you can pay 50p for a truly horrible cuppa from a vending machine in reception). The continental breakfast is good but you don't get an individual pot of tea or coffee to your table - only a large pot on the buffet so the tea is always only luke-warm. It's a shame because in so many ways this is a great hotel but these little things just leave a slightly bad taste. When I go away I want a little bit of pampering - and the ability to make a cup of tea or a hot chocolate in my room at night is not much to ask.... It might not seem important but given the choice I would always choose the place that offered that little bit more...
The old school building is attractive and retains character from its former use. The location is very good.
The bed was very hard which made the night long and painful.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. The food prepared at the hotel was excellent. The room rate was good, good internet access, free parking right in front. Very quiet and peaceful.
The bill for my room had to be e mailed to me. A minor thing but it is inconvenient.
Relaxing, easy, reasonable access to towns and villages. Good friendly people. Nice country location
Perhaps it was a one off, our only dinner was not exciting and very expensive compared to other high quality restaurants near by.
Food and drink too expensive for the standard of hotel
