"Breakfast.TV had BBC.Steam trains across the road" | (in 4 reviews) |
Friendly atmosphere, contented staff, pleasantly situated in a very lovely town. Would strongly recommend it.
Smoke alarm activated on night of 20th so called fire brigade. False alarm and key holder was quickly on the scene. Unfortunate but no harm done.
close to station and town centre. also superb for those who wanted to observe the HSB steam locos. highly amusing drinks delivery system.
in view of the number of english visitors, and other countries, the lack of anything other than German spoken, with basic info was not good.
Breakfast was excellent as was the food generally. Location was probably as good as it gets for steam locomotive enthusiasts.
The room was rather small. Toiletries were not replenished.
Loved the proximity to the railway & the way that the steam engines were just across the road and steaming all night. Restaurant had a railway theme too. Staff very helpful & friendly.
If you like steam railways and you're coming to the Harz Mountains, then this is the only hotel to stay in. Everything about the hotel is very good. The room (overlooking the loco shed) had a great view, the accomodation was comfy and the bathroom excellent. The hotel's location for the town is also very convenient and the hotel easily accessed by car. The buffet breakfast was exactly as we like them to be and the evening meal menu was excellent in terms of scope, value for money and quality. If you're travelling to this part of Germany for the first time don't expect everyone to be able to speak English - learn the basics and have a good phrase book! None the less the staff were warm, welcoming and friendly.
This is not really a "not like", but... we were there in a heat wave (which was great) however the room was sweltering (as you'd expect). There's no air conditioning (which isn't the end of the world) but as we had to have the windows wide open we were disturbed by the road traffic right outside - where does everyone go at 5.30 in the morning, and why so many of them?!?! So, if you're booking for a summer visit then maybe a room at the back would be cooler and quieter - you can still watch the engines from the various balconies and terraces, and with a beer in hand (which is another plus for this hotel)
We were there for the steam trains and we loved being next to the train yard. Others may not find the street and train smoke as appealing.
Outstanding location adjacent to the railway station, provided the room we asked for, great breakfast, good dinner with happy service.
Clean, quiet, comfortable, near local transportation and the steam train depot. Easy walk to center of town. Good breakfast
No, everything was excellent
Hotel recently refurbished, clean and comfortable. Convenient for station and narrow gauge railway and only a few minutes walk from town. Ideal for railway enthusiasts as dining room overlooks steam loco depot of the Harz narrow gauge system. Excellent breakfast buffet, good evening meal.
Nothing I disliked-however there are insufficient staff to deal comfortably with large numbers dining at same time. For the same reason an early morning call was overlooked-fortunely without on this occasion causing difficulty.
helpfullness of staff.
