Old Grey Mare

The room was lovely, and nicely set out.

The location was more a half hour walk not the 10 minutes advertised. The kettle in the room was filthy, and tv had four chanels of snowy pictures no digital or dvd. The service for cleaning was weak and pathetic, the third day we were there they did nothing but open the windows leaving our room icy cold when we returned as it was a cold wet day, they didnt change the cups, nor clean the bins or replace toliet roll we had to ask a neighbour for some! Also the curtain in the room was damaged and off its curtain rings, and one of the lamp shades was also broken

Position, good indian restaurant attached to pub, friendly landlord Terry.

It was in easy walking distance of the city of York

We just felt the £100 for one night was a bit steep considering the prices were put up on purpose over a festival period. Normally the rooms are £25 pppp but it was doubled in view of the xmas fair which we found really quite rude.

We found the old grey mare to be a "locals" pub, which didnt bother us at all. The room was very cosy and warm (especially when you walk back from the city centre and you are freezing) in november. Staff were helpful and friendly.

The only thing we werent fussed on was the smell of indian curry in the morning (in the breakfast room) as its an indian restaurant of a night (small one)
