Antwerp is quite a compact city, so it’s worth applying that to your hire car selection by choosing a compact vehicle. In the more central areas, close to the city’s historical centre, you’ll find tighter streets with parked cars making it tricky to manoeuvre if in a larger vehicle. Also, should you need to park in the street, a compact car will help you squeeze into those tighter spaces.
When it comes to speed limits in Antwerp, you will have to keep your speed down to 20-30 km/h when driving around areas like the centre; this depends on the area of the city you are driving in and the speed limit signs on particular streets. In general, urban areas have a speed limit of 50 km/h, while outside of the city, you can drive at 90 km/h. It’s usually 120 km/h on dual carriageways and motorways.
After you’ve arranged your car hire in Antwerp, one thing to take note of is the parking areas in the city. Antwerp is made of coloured-coded street parking zones. You can find free parking in all areas that are green, while the cheaper paid parking is yellow. However, these are quite far from the city, so it’s advised to park in an orange zone; these are much cheaper than the red zones in the centre, which can be very expensive. Car parks are dotted around the city and generally cost 2-4 € per hour. You can find free car parks at Centraal Kievit P1 – NMBS, just outside the centre, and Scheldekaaien – Cockerillkaai, which is close to the centre, on the riverbank.

Pros:
nothing there was no one available to inspect vehicleCons:
We dropped the car off on Sunday and the facility in Antwerp was closed Sunday and possibly Monday (i believe it was closed for holiday?) There was no on to inspect the vehicle; the parking was in an exposed small parking lot. We were later notified of a scratch on the hood that most definitely wasn't there when we left the vehicle. In addition to holding us responsible, they are charging about $1,200 to repair a scratch, which seems excessive. I will admit I don't know the cost of body work in Antwerp but nonetheless, the vehicle was not damaged while in our care.10.0 Wonderful

Pros:
The car was good and the service was fastCons:
The address was hard to find, if you try to find it with a GPS you end up at a point near the port of Antwerp, but not near the actual office. I had that problem not only with my GPS on the phone, but also with the GPS of the rented car, and with the GPS of the taxi that I had to take to get there. So in the end I paid extra for a taxi and I was late for an important meeting! When I explained to the lady on the counter she gave no relevant answer.4.0 Mediocre

Pros:
Nothing, the office is barely visible, remotely located in an industrial area which closes at 6pm. More than 30 min taxi from Antwerp train station. Just skip it!Cons:
Difficult to find office, remotely located. And most importantly closed when I arrived at 18h30 despite being advertised as "24h pick up and drop off". The emergency phone no on the wall doesn't answer. Sixt wont refund my pre-payment because "you have to book out of hours appointments before". Thanks, but it was not mentioned anywhere when I booked! What a scam this is! Just forget Sixt in Antwerp! I ended up paying 5 times the price of the rental in order to get on time to my appointment, well 6 times with the pre-payment! Résultat j'ai payé 4 fois le prix de la location en taxi pour être à mon rdv à l'heure. Passez votre chemin avec Sixt à Anvers!2 locations in Antwerp
