Pros: Location New hotel
Cons: Missed our flight with 7 yrs old, was charged for 1 night stay as was “too late to cancel “ and had “no insurance “. Would be nice if there was some «deviation” from the policy in this particular situation and in customer service for the whole Iceland. I felt like nobody fights here for their tourists. I guess a climate plays a role here .... Next time definitely would NOT stay here, as there other options

Pros: The hotel decor in this hotel is really well designed. The lobby, the lounge, the restaurant & the rooms were all super cool. We loved it! We stayed in a really great room. It had a living room with a pullout that our 2 year old slept on & a great big king in the bedroom. The bathroom had a really cool clawfoot tub & big shower. I loved the decor in our room! Blackout curtains were great as we were jet lagged & the sun doesn't go down in the Summer iceland. Breakfast was yummy & the coffee was excellent. Everything is VERY expensive in Iceland but this hotel was pricey even for Iceland. Luckily we had a free night from hotels.com do we only had to pay the taxes. I'm very impressed with Canopy by Hilton though & hope to stay in another one of their hotels.
Cons: It was a bit noisy as our room was right on the busy road side of the hotel.

Having a kitchen (with coffee pot, kettle, dishes, utensils, cooking pots, etc.) in our room was great, since eating out was so expensive. There were 9 of us in three apartments. All of our rooms had different lay-outs, and one of them had a large living room where we could all gather comfortably (Apt. 2) Very friendly, helpful innkeepers, also!

Pros: But why would you want to spend a lot of time in your room when your on vacation? The staff was friendly and helpful and the facilities -- breakfast area, bar, lobby, deli, cinema, etc. -- were comfortable and clean. From our room we had a fascinating view of a 178-foot fishing trawler undergoing refurbishment, perfectly apt for the marina setting. Easy to walk everywhere with great restaurants nearby. We'd stay again!

Pros: We liked the location near city center and the view out our 3rd floor balcony. The room was spacious and comfortable. The shower was especially welcome after a day of horseback riding and sightseeing. The restaurant in the hotel, Snaps was very accommodating by seating us near closing. They served an excellent meal.
Cons: On street parking was a little unnerving but turned out fine. It seems that after 6:30pm free parking on the streets is a free-for-all in Reykjavik with anything goes.

Pros: The front desk staff was amazing. They helped us several time with questions we had We rented one of their apartments for a couple days and it was huge. Wonderful street views and easy walking distance to everything you need. We never ate at their restaurant but we have heard is very good and reasonably priced.

Pros: Everything about this stay was fantastic. The rooms were massive by European standards and so were the beds. They were heated nicely and had heated towel racks, lighting and tech was great. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The location was pretty good.
Cons: The only downside is you aren't right downtown but it's tough to say really what downtown actually is. It's such a big sprawl of a city so it's in Reykjavik but just not the heart I guess, they have a shuttle to make up for this.

Pros: The duvet. Very comfortable. The breakfast is included and very filling, especially to brave the cold of Rekyavik.
Cons: The staff did mess up our tour reservation once and we had to ask management time and again for something to be done about it. The desk in the room had some coffee stains and the shower door does not prevent the water from going all over the bathroom! Plus the hotel was definitely a bit distant from city center.

Cons: The staff was not very accommodating at all. I reserved a superior room with a double bed, and they gave us 2 twin beds. After speaking with the front desk, all they could tell us was that they are fully booked, and that you're never guaranteed the type of bed you want, but we could push the 2 twin beds together if we'd like. No, thank you. We were only staying there for one night, so we decided not to push the issue. Checkout is at noon, but after reading the hotel info they provide you with in the room, I saw they offer late checkout at 2pm as an option. So, that evening I called the desk to request late checkout, and the woman I spoke with could not give me a yes or no. She said I have to speak with the day staff. I called at 8am the following morning and the woman informed me again that they are fully booked. Ok, but I'm just asking to check out at 2pm. Check in for any new guests is at 4pm. That still gives cleaning crew 2 hours to get the room ready for any new guests arriving. I even tried to compromise and say can we at least stay until 1pm? We were catching the shuttle to the airport at 2pm from the hotel, and didn't have anywhere to go for 2 hours if we checked out at noon. She told me they could hold our luggage and we could go downtown and shop. No, I'm not risking missing the airport shuttle because you told me to go to town and spend $$. So after me asking the same question in 4 different ways, she finally said ok, you can check out at 1pm. Well wow! Thanks a million, Grand Hotel. We won't be staying with you on our next trip to Iceland.

Pros: The hotel was very clean, staff were helpful, our room had a beautiful view of the city and the water, and the room itself was nice. The double bed fit two large adults easily, which was a concern when we were booking. The bathroom also included a tub in addition to the shower. The lobby area was nice with large doors to see out when waiting for tour guides or cabs, and was filled with pamphlets of various activities. Hair dryer/iron & board/mini fridge and laundry service pick up available.
Cons: The location was a bit further from the city than anticipated, it's listed as a medium walking distance, it is walkable, just not desirable on cold/rainy nights, approximately 20kr cab ride. The dinner buffet was fairly expensive and we didn't really care for it, we preferred the restaurants around the corner or in town and the cost was similar or less, potentially regular ordering tasted better than the buffet. No shampoo/conditioner/lotion, I always bring my own, but wanted to note.

Pros: The design of the hotel is great. Its very modern and sleek. The views are fantastic. Whether you're at the Sky Lounge or the comfortable lobby, you can clearly see the beautiful harbor and mountain range. The location of the hotel is also great. Its right by the downtown area and can easily walk to the strip without the barrage of traffic. The hotel is also 5 minutes from many museums and shops by the harbor and beyond.
Cons: Because of the central location, space is tight. The room offers minimal storage and the bathroom has a convertible shower that takes advantage space. The design was beautiful but the quarters were close. The breakfast was OK. It was the first meal I had where fish was not an option. The crumbled eggs were dry and actually crunchy. Bacon was either burnt or raw. However, the view from the top of the hotel easily distracted these inconveniences.

Cons: We weren't notified in advance that Centerhotel had moved us to another hotel. We were exhausted from traveling and would have appreciated nothing more than going to sleep at the hotel we booked. The staff at the Arnarhvoll did order a taxi that took us to the new hotel. The hotel we were bumped to, Centerhotel Plaza, was in a better location in the downtown.

Cons: I would have preferred to have been closer to downtown so I could walk to the downtown area. However, that would mean having a big hotel in the middle of a great little town. I understand that they are building something closer to town that fits in to the surroundings, so I'll have to try that when it opens.

Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful with information on getting around Reykjavik. The food was excellent. Loved the Folk art and displays in the lobby. It was a very nice stay for my first visit to Iceland.
Cons: The only thing that didn't work was th TV in our room. When the staff couldn't seem to fix it we were given vouchers for a beverage of our choice from the bar. It worked out just fine, instead of sitting in our room we went out and about the city and had a great time, better than TV any day!

Cons: The restaurant wasn't that great, (underdone chicken), waitstaff wasn't friendly, especially if your breakfast wasn't part of the package. The spa staff gave contradictory information to reception staff, so better communication would've been helpful .

Cons: Having a double bed which have two beds pushed together was uncomfortable and as a couple we like to be close when we sleep. On this occasion having two single duvets just made this uncomfortable. On check in they told us they were overbooked and that we should chose another of their hotels. The member of staff was rude and talking in Icelandic to other members of staff which made us uncomfortable. We ended up with a room upgrade because of the situation however this is not what we needed after a long day travelling.

Pros: Everything. This place was fantastic. The Staff was helpful, the location can't be beat; you're in the middle of town, on the main street. walking distance to shops and restaurants. Nice size room, fridge - really the best value / location we stayed in Iceland. Good breakfast options compared to other places we stayed. Recommended.

Pros: Hotel was walking distance to shopping. Had a small kitchen with burners, microwave, refrigerator and dishes. Stayed 4 nights and made dinner 3 of those nights.Going out to eat very expensive Bonus (supermarket) is just 2 blocks away. Staff is extremely helpful. We arrived at 8am and there was a room ready for us.
Cons: Make sure you get to breakfast on time. Close doors exactly at 9:30 and by 9:15 slim pickings on options. It could be that it is early but staff wasn't that welcoming for breakfast. Just basic offerings - toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, meat, cheese, yogurt. Was fine for us but for those who like a hot breakfast it isn't available They cut fruit in half so for those of you who like to grab and apple for later in the day that isn't an option.

Pros: Great place, friendly staff, and tons of character. The bar and food are so good that locals and other visitors from the area will visit even if they're not staying at the hostel. Location could not be better. Within 2-10 minute walk of Laugavegur (one of the main shopping and dining areas), Harpa, and convenience stores (e.g. 10-11). Highly recommended.

Pros: Just the cutestest hostel ever. Very trendy, clean and comfortable. Spacious rooms, clean bathrooms and showers. Guests were very respectful. Had no trouble sleeping in the evenings. Great bar and sitting area in the reception area to drink and meet other travelers. Food was delicious at the restaurant. Excellent location, located on the main road, central in downtown. Most tours pick up just outside their door steps, as well as local bus stops. Although, it's easy to walk everywhere from there. Absolutely, love it and hope to stay there again one day.

Advertises soap and shampoo provided yet they give 1 tiny bottle of shampoo that people end up stealing so no soap or shampoo Same with the soap in the bathrooms. No soap. Checked out a day early (almost 30 hours early) yet told that no refund would be given because not given 24 hours notice (?)

Pros: This review is about the two floors of the hotel which are a hostel, not a hotel. They lend you a tiny (nearly a joke, I guess) lock to put on the small cubby boxes in the room. 1000ISK deposit. The kitchen contains dishwashers.
Cons: I stayed in a room with 12 or 14 beds. The doors on these rooms are "underdamped", meaning they are designed or adjusted to slam very very loudly if you let them close by themselves. It shakes not just the room, but is even obnoxious during the day if you're in a common kitchen or lounge down/across the hall. The door in my room was slammed AT ALL HOURS of the day except 12h30 -- 03h00 a.m. by the absurdly inconsiderate guests. The problem is that there is no effort by the hostel to tell people how to behave, and for some reason a large cross-section of the sample of young travellers in my room seem entirely oblivious to the surely-obvious effects of their actions on other people. There were no quiet hours announced. No one was told to close doors quietly. I was dumbfounded how people stayed up shouting, drinking, etc inside the dorm room (there are couches) until midnight, even when others were obviously trying to sleep, and the same people when they were on a different schedule, were up at 03h a.m. sharp talking loudly, and slamming the door countless times again. I mentioned to the staff that there was an educational solution (maybe) to this problem, but they didn't seem very interested. In addition to all that, the rooms, which look nothing nice as clean as in the pictures online (of course), have little cubby boxes below the beds where you supposedly can lock your valuables. The locking tabs are a bit of a joke, maybe, but in my room several were actually broken off anyway, so there was no way to lock them. This was my worst hostel experience ever.

Pros: My friend and I enjoyed the views of the water and the 25 min walk to the harpa along the shore from hotel cabin. It’s amazing for the price. The buffet breakfast was perfect for FREE. The dinner buffet was like $20 USD which is also well worth it !!
