Went to the front desk to ask for plates and cutlery for a birthday cake I had picked up for my girlfriend. Mind you, this was during the complementary wine/sake happy hour in the lobby. She said she could get that together for me, and returned to us sipping sake with plates, flatware, birthday wishes and a bottle of Champagne!! That's hospitality. Thank you all.
professional staff and great place to stay within walking distance to great restaurants.
need more space for personal items and better lighting in bathroom
No hot water
The newly renovated rooms are nice, large, and clean, but the lack of hot water (with no notice) was unacceptable.
Despite calling ahead to ask whether we would be affected by the ongoing renovations at the Buchanan, and being assured we would not notice a thing, we had no hot water during our stay. We weren't informed that the hot water had been shut off until the morning after we had checked in, after two unsuccessful attempts at a shower.
Hotel Tomo is close to restaurants, it's convenient and decent.
The shower provided NO hot water
This was the first time that we stayed in a hotel in such close proximity to Japantown and we were not disappointed. The feel of the hotel was that of a boutique-style hotel where the staff was very attentive to our needs. The decor of the rooms were nothing that we have seen before and was such a pleasant surprise. We would definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers to the San Francisco area.
Funky modern design, good location for Japantown. Nice view
Check in was slow and room is pretty spartan, if "funked up" with Japanese kitsch. Although we ordered a King we got two small Queens
Very well located...professional staff, very clean and friendly hotel. Japantown is the best and safest way to discover San Francisco. Free Wifi and lcd Tv: Simply perfect
Rates are excluding taxes and city tax, so please pay attention to final total
Very nice and modern rooms with Manga on the walls - perfect!
Fun design, good food at Mum's restaurant
All was good.
Big double beds, the design of the bedroom, location of the hotel in Japantown (calm area of the city), bus stop opposite the hotel, good connections to downtown.
Nothing in particular
Funky hotel with bed rooms & great beds! The neigbourhood was v. interesting - lots of shops & services nearby but no tourists
Very friendly and helpful staff.
we loved the bartender - she was awesome - we talked about saki and where she was from, what her parents drank...she was terrific!!!
The hotel staff was absolutely wonderful! Always trying to be helpful! The decor was very unique and enchanting. The beds were very comfortable.
San Francisco is a beautiful city with a mixture of all kinds of cultures and things to do. No hotel highlights this better than the Kimpton Buchanan.
The Kimpton Buchanan aims to create more of a nest than a hotel room. Because the hotel is situated where Japantown, The Fillmore, and Pacific Heights meet, the Kimpton Buchanan combines all of those designs to create a unique experience. Featuring European linens and a “Zen meets Barbary Coast” design with Japanese art sprinkled in, guests will find their room is cozy yet functional with a connected workstation in every room. All rooms come with an LCD flat screen television with HD channels and some rooms come with mini-fridges and Keurig coffee makers.
The Kimpton Buchanan sits next eating destinations that would make any foodie jealous. With restaurants like 1300 on Fillmore serving up Southern comforts and Dosa offering Indian cuisine with a California spin, palettes won’t ever be bored. And of course, guests will be able to find delicious, authentic Japanese food in nearby Japantown. There’s something for everyone within a short walk of the hotel.
The Kimpton is pet friendly and has a well-equipped fitness center. However, the star is their in-room spa treatments that feature everything from massages to facials to hand and foot treatments. After a long day looking through the nearby boutiques with unique oddities and live music venues, guests will be begging for the full body treatment. Other amenities include free high speed WiFi, dry cleaning, and meeting rooms.
