Pros: We were sent to another hotel after having prepaid. There was nothing to like.
Cons: We prepaid for our stay, and upon checking in at 3pm we’re told the hotel was full, but they booked us another room at a different hotel which we would have to walk back in the opposite direction with our bags. They volunteered to cover the city tax for us for the inconvenience, making a big deal about how generous that was of them), however, when we tried to check out of the new hotel, we were told we would still need to pay city tax. They called Hotel Estherea to see if they would honor their promise and they refused. It took multiple phone calls and a great deal of time and hassle before they would agree to honor their original promise. Far too much time and trouble to deal with from a hotel that I prepaid for. I had read a similar review before booking but thought maybe it was a one time thing. When I was actually there it felt like a regular routine they might be up to, taking prepayment for a room, then booking a room at another hotel at a lower rate and pocketing he difference. Stay away.

Pros: The location is very central making it easy to get anywhere. breakfast is in a gorgeous winter garden-type room and the selection is very diverse. Staff were always helpful and accomodating.
Cons: I was on the first floor and there didn't seem to be a staircase that I could take to go one flight of stairs. It was annoying always having to wait for the elevator (which was insanely crowded) for such a tiny distance. Also, no gym which I expect in a hotel of this size and class.

Cons: Keys stopped working every day and it takes a very long time to get from the room tothe front desk to get new ones. I also was unable to make my first night due to a change in our flight that was beyond my control and although I called more than 24 hours before arrival they would not refund my first night stay. I would not suggest pre paying. I have worked in hotels so I know there are always ways staff can make it up to you - free breakfast, bottles of wine, discounts on future stays etc. Nothing was done

Pros: It's right in the center of things and I had no problem walking to most of the hotspots in the city which was awesome. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great design of the place as the rooms are pretty stunning. Would def recommend to others

Having to keep riding the ferry was a bit much but if you factor that into your commute you should be good. Currently there is a ton of construction on all sides which hindered me finding it the first time but once I found the bridge I was good.

I didnt feel welcome at all and she seemed more interested in getting me off her back so she could smoke a cigarette than actually helping me. After getting food and walking around a bit I came back and was helped by another lady who was so sweet and gracious. I'm still giving this hotel an excellent review because I dont want to spoil it over one bad encounter.. The rest of the staff I encountered throughout my stay was excellent.

Pros: The location was very convenient and accessible and the staff was very accommodating. Our room was not ready when we arrived nor was it ready when they told us to return. The management responded with an upgrade at a reasonable rate and free drinks at the bar. The rest of the staff was also great. We enjoyed a bottle of wine in our room & the bartender opened our bottle without corkage fees, gave us crystal glasses to drink out of & even gave us some snacks to enjoy, all on the house! Overall a very great experience; we would consider staying there again!

Pros: I love this stylish, super conveniently located hotel. It is literally walking distance to the main train station, tram stops, and Hop on/Hop off bus and boat meeting places and most of the canal tours. The hotel itself is lovely, with great rooms, service, staff.
Cons: The construction zone presented some logistical challenges. Hopefully, it will be over soon and the hotel will be just outstanding.

Pros: The front desk staff was excellent. The hotel was a pleasant surprise. I was thrilled to stay in a room that was large, clean and very comfortable. Loved the robe, slippers and balcony with view of Amsterdam Centraal! The location was perfect. Hotel is historic so parts of it are older but for the location and price I paid I would absolutely stay here again. Also I ordered a pizza from room service and was amazed. It may have been the best pizza I have ever had!

Cons: Unfortunately the hotel is next door to a city music facility and there were extremely loud pounding rave concerts from 9 pm until 6 am the next day. Despite being 15 floors above, the super loud base beat still penetrated the room until 6 am. Nothing the hotel could do but would advise avoiding Friday and Saturday nights if possible. Very close to a tram station for transportation to Centraal Station. Buy the 24 or 36 hour tram pass and once you learn the routes hop on and off at your pleasure.

Pros: This hotel is very close to everything. Conveniently located near Centraal station- the tourist and transport hub. Segway, bike shop and bike parking at hotel is a plus. Hotel itself is very modern- spacious, and boutique-like with friendly multi-lingual staff. Fitness and spa center are superb compared to 4 or 5 star hotels we've stayed in this summer elsewhere in Europe. Excellent restaurant menu. Main asset: the staff.
Cons: Internet service was intermittent during the week (hotel gave us credit back though). Cruise ship blares horn in the morning. Restaurant service could use some help.

Pros: This was my first trip there, and I loved the Generator almost the most. It had a great atmosphere, and everyone I encountered there was very nice. The cafe is fantastic, and a great place to hang out if you have work to do.
Cons: The rooms WERE a bit small, but for the average traveler/backpacker they are totally sufficient. I happened to have quite a bit of luggage with me (it's what happens when I'm traveling for business), and I felt like a total inconvenience to my roommates (even though they swore I was fine). My ONLY complaint with the experience at Generator is that the shower drain was quite clogged, and the shower stall would be filled with water by the second minute.

Pros: The building is an antique that seems to recently been rejuvenated. It's important to keep this in mind when coming here, because the place is not a modern hotel, and so some modern things may be missing. For example, the elevators could be quite awkward and I cannot imagine how the floors are handicap accessible. That said, the bathrooms were brand new and quite nice. And finally, they throw in a full, FREE mini-bar.

Pros: The building itself was lovely, very gothic with a cozy feel. The breakfast was excellent, make sure you get it included in your original price. The spa was nice and the staff was extremely helpful. We rented bikes from the hotel for a day and they were very good rides, better than our bikes at home! The mini bar is stocked daily and is FREE! We kept drinking our mini wines in the double bath tub every night. Great location, across the canal from central station. A great choice for our honeymoon stay.
Cons: Our room was on the first floor, so keeping the windows open at night for a breeze did not work out as the street noise was too loud. Our last night we noticed a small visitor in our room, a mouse, who was persistent and did not want to leave. It was our last night so we just said our goodnight to our guest and slept, it's an old building so I don't think it is an "infestation" but rather something that comes with staying in an old, large building.

We couldn't open the windows at night because the building construction next door started promptly at 7 am and the noise was unbearable with the windows open. Would never had booked here if I knew I would get about 2 hrs of sleep per night. The price was decent but now I know why!

Cons: It's called Not Hotel for a reason... this is more like a hostel, shared rooms, communal bathrooms/showers. We actually paid an extra fee to have a private bathroom but little did we know that did not include the toilet (!) this meant having to dress up and walk down stairs to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. There is barely any storage space and no drawers to empty/store suitcases. It was a cool experience but I would not recommend for anyone seeking a minimum level of comfort. Especially given the hotel-like room rates.

Pros: Love this hotel for its location and kind staff. Breakfast was very good, the room was clean, comfortable and spacious by European standards. Would highly recommmend it!

Guests rate our location right in bustling downtown 9.4/10. On a business trip? RAI Convention Centre, Amsterdam Arena and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol are only 15 minutes away by train.

Pros: Great location.
Cons: Very spartin, a bed, lamp, chair, and a small space for your lap top. No amenities of any kind. Liquid soap for both the vanity and shower. No kleenex or ice bucket.

Pros: The hotel is right by the train station and close to the places where tours start.
Cons: The room was dirty in the corners and the shower was a bit grimy in spots. Neither our room nor that of the other couple we were traveling with was cleaned or towels replaced during our two night stay.

Pros: The staff was helpful with regards to local attractions. Located next door to the central train terminal, it was perfect for my stop through Amsterdam on my way to the UK from Germany. It was a little pricey for the amenities, but overall a good experience.

Cons: The room was nothing like the pictures, very small and out dated decor. Right next to the unsurprisingly very noisy train station and the walls are very thin so you can hear everything going on next door. €6 for a bottle of water is nearly the same as an Ibiza nightclub.

Pros: Great location. Quiet area with easy access to the center of the city. I would definitely stay here again. Very cool Hotel-Boat...Botel :)
Cons: The last ferry from Central Station leaves at 23:45 and the first one leaves to Central Station at 07:00. But there was a free shuttle 5-7 min to/from the 24 hour shuttle. Had 2 single beds that could not be moved together.

Pros: The ferry will drop you off very near Amstel Botel, so if you walked all around the city, it will not be tiring to get to your hotel.
Cons: The room was very basic and smelled like urine. It was not a pleasant stay at all. The front desk is not much help either.

Pros: The boat is in a really cool wharf area. There's some really cool bars and restaurant just outisde. If you don't plan to stay inside, the boat is ideal for travelers on a budget.

Pros: Room often comes with free bike rental during your stay.
Cons: Physical keys for doors, very loud while using them, could hear others in the hallways opening locks etc. Nothing major just a bit of a pain.
