It is better to decline additional cdw as cards typically provide cover. Even otherwise it was covered with 1000$ deductible which is a reasonable risk to take. We took Mazda cx-5 that had plenty of space for four of us and 4 very big suitcases and 3 small ones, 7 in all after removing the bar in the boot and folding a back seat.

My experience with ALAMO at Amsterdam City Center was extremely unsatisfactory. The unprofessional conduct of an employee named Paul, who refused to use an alternate card for payment, charged my credit card without consent, and declined to provide his last name, left me deeply dissatisfied. Overall, it was a frustrating and disappointing encounter.

Twice we had trouble getting into the car and starting the engine. we had to use the key and remove a small cover on the handle. we also removed and re-installed the battery in the key fob. When it happened the second time, we bought a new battery ,installed it in the key fob and had no further trouble. It was a nuisance, both times we were out in the country AND we spent 8,95 euro .I still rated everything "good" as we were satisfied with everything else. I don't imagine that a FULL refund is justified? Martin Van Eerd

Important things were not communicated upfront. 1. Passport is needed 2. Credit card pin code is needed. The first issue was solved, by chance i had a photo of the passport. the 2nd issue was a surprise, I knew I had to bring my credit card and I did, after already paying online, however, they needed me to use my pin code and not just scan my card. I do not have the pin code and they had no fallback option so I was not able to get a car and had to make new plans. Clear communication upfront would help either getting ready for the rental process or make other plans IN TIME. I was unhappy to see no flexibility (I offered instead of a deposit, to actually pay that amount - even that wasn't an option)

The first vehicle I received from Sixt Amsterdam branch had a gear problem.When I wanted to deliver the vehicle to the branch, they claimed that there was no problem and even if they took delivery of the vehicle, my money would be burned and they would not be able to give me a new vehicle.As a result of my intense insistence, staff spoke with the branch manager and exchanged the vehicle. When I received the vehicle, I took its photos and videos of the damaged areas.After returning the vehicle, the vehicle was not re-checked with me and the damages on the day I received the vehicle were tried to be reflected to me within 1 hour.Back to the branch; When I wanted to show the damage photos I took on the day I received the vehicle, the vehicle had already been given to another customer. Investigations are currently ongoing. I hope that the fault of the branch staff will not be reflected on me.A world-class company like Sixt should work with staff who can communicate properly with their customers.I hope that the penalty for this mistake will not be reflected on me and the deposit taken from my card will be fully refunded to my account.

The staff were very friendly and the drop off was was also good

Cons:

The car was rubbish - I plugged my phone into the USB to use google maps and it continually crashed and kept reverting back to the existing nav system in the car. Then the USB went dead completely. The drivers window did not close properly and at speed made a noise. When closed it would open again and the same process repeat. I had requested a Golf but got instead a Ford focus...not ideal for German roads...I won't accept this again - I should have been more stern...

Cons:

When we booked the car, there was no indication that the office would close early (12pm) on our return day or that after hours return requires paying 6€ per hour for parking. On Google maps the hours stated open until 6pm. More transparency would have been appreciated.

The car had a chokolate wrapper fell between the seat and thr handbrake from the previous person who rented our car,now.. normaly i wouldnt care but it says premium cleaned or something, now also… i wouldnt even care about that im from Croatia we are easy going people, but if i did this i would probably get chraged or something becouse of the “company policy” or some other general explenation, but non the less the service was great,the car was better then we expected ! and we even got the car a lil bit behind the deadline and we really apreciated that, 10/10 i would recomend the company ! and the service :)

Compact SUV

The checkin line at the airport was 35 minutes. Way too long. My reserved car was not available. I ordered an SUV and they only gave me a Skoda Skála sedan. With the long wait I was at their mercy to even get a car and when I brought it to their attention they said that it was the class I ordered which was absolutely incorrect. I would appreciate a refund. Hertz is a top name company and as s customer I deserve a voice.

We were running a little later than expected due to flight delays but it put us across the return time, for which they initially charged us an extra day at a much higher rate. Fortunately Mo at Schiphol airport was able to take care of us.

The overall experience was good but I wanted to pick up the car couple of hours early but the agent at the terminal didn’t allow me to rent it before even when they had so many cars available. I would have appreciated a little flexibility with the rental time as what I have seen with other rental companies in the USA.

The damage reports are really ridiculous. Driving along and one of the many crazy truck throws a small stone and they charge you. That’s completely out of drivers control.
