Driving in Tunisia can be a mixed experience. The road conditions vary, with major highways being well-maintained, but rural and less-travelled roads may be in poor condition. Locals primarily drive small to mid-sized cars, with popular brands being Renault, Peugeot, and Mercedes-Benz. Tunisians drive on the right side of the road, similar to most of mainland Europe. However, traffic can be chaotic in cities, with aggressive driving, limited adherence to traffic rules, and occasional lack of lane discipline. It is important to exercise caution, follow local driving customs, and be aware of other drivers' behaviour.

To rent a car in Tunisia, you must typically be at least 21 years old. However, the age requirement can vary depending on the rental company and the type of car you wish to rent. Some agencies may require drivers to be at least 23 years old. Additionally, drivers usually need to possess a valid driving licence that has been held for a specified period, often one or two years, depending on the rental company's policy. It is advisable to check with the specific rental agency for their age restrictions and requirements.
