Pros: I planned a trip to NYC but my accommodation fell through at the last minute, so I booked a room with the NY Moore simply because it was the cheapest that I could find. I am so glad that I picked it, for a hostel it is very good indeed. The room that I stayed in was very spacious and clean (apart from a bit of dust on the skirting boards), the bathroom was spotless. The staff are very friend and helpful, and it is very near to quite a few subways; easy access to the city. I most definitely recommended
Pros: I liked: 1- parking ease 2- proximity to everything 3- facilities (lounge and common area and coffee) 4- comfortable bed
Pros: This is the first year I have ever stayed in Hostels. I'm doing so not only to save money, but also to be a bit adventurous. I could not be happier with my 4 day stay in mid April 2017. The place is clean, you feel welcome, my roommates were interesting, and the front staff, every last one that I had contact with, were fantastic. (Secret Tip), one of the staff is actually a co-owner. The only improvement I would like to see, is actually to be able to find the building the first time I went. There was no lighting on the front of the building, and it is located in an industrial area. I did feel safe, however like anyplace, you have to always be alert. I had a great time, and definitely be staying again!
"Located in Wingate, this hostel is within 2 miles (3 km) of Prospect Park, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens and Brooklyn Museum. Barclays Center Brooklyn is 2.7 mi (4.3 km) away. Sterling St. Station is only a 4-minute walk and Winthrop St. Station is 9 minutes. "

"Located in Greenpoint, this hostel is within 3 miles (5 km) of United Nations Headquarters, 5th Avenue and Chrysler Building. Roosevelt Island is 2.9 mi (4.6 km) away. Nassau Av. Station is 6 minutes by foot and Greenpoint Av. Station is 6 minutes. "

Pros: I picked the YMCA because it was a cheap option that wasn't quite a youth hostel and was very close to an event I was attending at the Brooklyn Expo Center. Not much in the way of amenities, but I got a decent-sized room that was simple but clean. The staff were all helpful. Basically what I expected for my money.
Pros: The staff was extremely kind
Pros: Free use of gym; breakfast voucher at nearby diner (came with my bigger room); friendly, helpful, professional staff.
"Located in Williamsburg, this hostel is within 3 miles (5 km) of Brooklyn Bridge Park, Barclays Center Brooklyn and Brooklyn Bridge. Wall Street and Prospect Park are also within 3 miles (5 km). Hewes St. Station is only a 2-minute walk and Marcy Av. Station is 3 minutes. "

Pros: The staff is always available to help and the different shared spaces are nice.
Pros: Bed was relatively comfortable, temperature was just right (not too cold, however this is subjective), towel provided, shower facilities are alright but the walls between the shower cubicles are very transparent which I am not used to. Also the hooks to hang your towel and clothes in the shower is too high for me (I am about 5"4 or 1.6m, and have to tiptoe). They should cater to the shorter females as well.
Pros: The facilities were well kept and aesthetically pleasing. the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The hostel is located in a convenient area. It is right down the street from the Marcy avenue subway station, and close to a number of restaurants, bars, markets, and coffee shops.
Top tips for finding the perfect Brooklyn hostel
- Choosing to stay in a hostel in Brooklyn would be a wise move for the budget-conscious traveler, as this borough (like the rest of New York City) is notoriously expensive in terms of traveling accommodations. In addition to providing a cheap place to sleep, many hostels in Brooklyn go the extra mile to make their guests feel at home, offering common areas, city tours, and comparatively inexpensive food and drink or self-catering options.
- Many hostels in Brooklyn are conveniently located in either Williamsburg or East Williamsburg, two of the most exciting neighborhoods in the borough. Travelers who choose to stay here will be perfectly situated to experience some of the city’s best bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and boutique stores, not to mention intriguing street art and local green areas like Highland Park. These neighborhoods also have convenient public transport links to the rest of New York City (Times Square is no more than 30m by metro).
- Solo travelers will enjoy staying at nearly any hostel in Brooklyn, as the majority of them are known for their friendly atmospheres and spacious common areas. Among the best options are the NY Moore Hostel and International Students Residences, which have small dormitories of four to six beds, making getting to know other people easy. It is also possible to enjoy shared kitchens or common rooms with TVs, board games, and movie nights. The NY Moore Hostel also has a popular backyard and serves free hot drinks.
- A couple looking for a hostel in Brooklyn may be wishing for more privacy than a dorm room. Couples will find themselves well served at a property like the Greenpoint YMCA. Unlike most hostels, this one boasts double or twin rooms with shared bathrooms and an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. For those looking for even more privacy, the NY Moore Hostel offers three-bed rooms with private bathrooms.
