Top tips for renting a car at Calgary Airport

  • Getting a car rental at Calgary Airport enables you to connect swiftly to central Calgary, allowing you to manage your itinerary in comfort. You can rent a vehicle and conveniently travel in and outside the city for tourism or official reasons without restrictions to public transportation schedules. Besides, the different gas stations near the airport ensure you can comfortably fuel your tank after picking up or before dropping off your car.
  • The Rental Car Center at Calgary Airport is on Airport Road NE operates daily to ensure convenient access for regular and first-time passengers. In addition, the venue includes after-hours returns that let you drop off your vehicle at night, meeting your needs when dealing with a strict schedule. If you return your vehicle after hours, you can pack and lock the car, leaving the keys and completed contract in the available drop boxes in the Returns section.
  • You can return your vehicle to the car rental at Calgary Airport from the city center using AB-2 N that links to Airport Road NE. Alternately, you can maneuver traffic and ride along Trans-Canada Highway to AB-2 N and follow Barlow Trail NE N to Airport Road. Drive along Departures Lane when you get closer to the airport, following the signs with a car rental icon to the rental car center on Airport Road NE. After dropping your vehicle, the staff inspects its details such as damages, fuel level, and mileage before signing off your completed contract and sending you off in a few minutes.
  • Some Calgary Airport car rental providers implement a fuel policy that requires you to return the vehicle with a gas tank filled to the same level it had during pick-up. Emergencies and rush hours may force you to refill at the stations near the airport, which are generally more costly than downtown fuel stations. I got there and found out about a policy change that they had NOT made clear anywhere. Specifically, you’re no longer allowed to rent using your debit card. I had paid a $70 deposit beforehand which I was told was nonrefundable. So I wasted $70 and an entire day for absolutely nothing!

I rented the car through priceline. The total cost given to me through priceline was significantly less than when I picked up the car at the Calgary location. They had every excuse they could think of to justify the price but fact is, it was quite a bit more. The calgary pickup location is unorganized. There drop off in red deer was great. Overall, $224 to use a car for 150kms and less than 24hours was excessive.

They did not have the Rent-A-Car. I reserved when I arrived to pick it up. I was told there were no cars available whatsoever. That left me completely stranded at the airport. I was then offered a vehicle that was an upgrade for an additional $50 a day, but they would not approve my secondary driver because it was an upgraded vehicle. My entire trip was based on renting a vehicle with two drivers. I was going to stay and the secondary driver was going to return the vehicle back to the Calgary airport. Because the car was not available for us. I had to drive eight hours to return the car. I will never rent from dollar/thrifty/Hertz again.

Pick up from and to airport was good. Everything was satisfactory. My only initial disappointment was I signed up for managers choice SUV and got a Nissan Kicks which is not an SUV albeit AWD. Was brand new though and fun to drive so I was ok with it. Also I’m not sure there was any info prior to stating that prices were low because some personal insurance may or may not cover you. I was glad ICBC did cover me, so that was a relief. I forgot to fill up before return as I was tight on time to catch flight. Only used maybe a quarter tank over the rental time so it appears that my balance showing zero owing was received. That I did appreciate and may consider Routes again.

First, I needed justify my request to have a snow brush, before I received one. Then I needed to clean the inside of the windshield, because sticky debris on it impacted my vision. (Both issues are recurring with this company) When I returned the car, a filled up gas tank suddenly showed it was only 90% full. I drove around in a unfamiliar area trying to top up the tank, only to find out the tank was full, but the gas gage did not reflect this. I went through this twice until I realized it wasn't user error, but something wrong with the fuel gage. This also put me over the 200 km daily limit. I explained all this and showed them my gas receipts. I was told not to worry, and encouraged to write a positive review on Google, which I did. Once I was at home, I received a bill for extra km and service fees! Dealing with this company is aggravating and really only worth during times of significant discounts.

Pickup was very poor. The staff at the front desk were very nice and professional. The problems began when selecting and picking up the car. We were asked to check the condition of a black car in an closed garage with poor lighting. Next to impossible. Then you have to show the problems to an agent who has some sort of screen to look further. About a dozen people were all leaving at once and so it took the better part of an hour from being shown the car to actually leaving the airport. Once we got it out into the light it was obvious we had missed a scratch. Upon dropping off, the process was very fast. However I wasn't given a receipt, and the one promised to my email never came. So now I have to chase it down. The car itself was otherwise fine, and was problem free.

I booked a car with GPS but when I arrived to collect it they didn’t have any GPS. So I had to pay around $50more per day in order to have a car with a navigation system.

Aggressive unnecessary upselling of insurance cover. Horrendous customer service. Would never use again and would definitely never recommend. Vile company.

STAY AWAY!!! The car was advertised with unlimited miles when booking. At the rental station they said that they have their own policy and only allow 200km/day. Even after opening a claim that was not changed. Additionally, very slow pickup process and every person that was with me at the rental station in Calgary had either issues with the KM, out of province policy or insurance policy. TOTAL RIP OFF

I had a job interview in Edmonton and when I picked up the car I was told I only have limited km when I booked the reservation it was unlimited km. So I borrowed a friend’s car instead. Waste of my money as it sat for the day. Will not be recommending this service.
