An SUV or Jeep is ideal for driving on Montenegro’s mountainous roads and exploring the area’s many scenic routes. Although there may be heavy traffic in the city centre, the streets are generally not too narrow so a large vehicle will generally fare well in and around Budva. Spacious vehicles will also give you more storage, which is ideal if you plan to head off on long hikes or take a picnic out to nearby natural attractions. You will also have plenty of room for beach supplies if you plan to spend your days on Budva Beach.

If you’re driving your Budva car hire in a built-up area, the speed limit is 30 mph (50 km). In rural areas, the speed limit is 60 mph (80 km). Meanwhile, on motorways and large highways, you can go up to 80 mph (100 km). Remember that speed limit signs in Montenegro are displayed in km rather than mph.

You will not find metered car parks in Montenegro as most car parks are manned by an attendant who takes the entrance fee.
