a great rental experienceRenting a car in Japan is a little adventurous, if only because one drives on the left and directions in Japanese are not so easy to follow if one doesn't speak and read that language. That is why having the rental car company switch the built-in GPS to English without extra cost and even without getting asked is a significant customer service achievement! The vehicle was ready at the appointed time, it took very little time to complete the paperwork (I had done this before, and the agent spoke just enough English for everything but to be smooth), and the return was equally unproblematic. I can highly recommend Times Car Rental. There were no problems of any kind.
Top tips for renting a car at Osaka Kansai Intl Airport
Osaka Kansai Airport is located relatively far away from the city, which means you can leverage a rental car and experience the excellent roads as you drive to the city center. With a rental car, you can choose to stop along the way when you find a delightful POI, unlike shuttles, "Rapi:t" limited express and Haruka trains, or taxis that operate on a tight schedule following the same route. After all, you feel in control, free, and more confident on the road when you're the one behind the steering wheel.
It is essential to know that you will incur toll fees when returning your rental vehicle after your stay in Osaka. We recommend that you bring some cash so that you can pass seamlessly through the toll booths. It's also critical to ensure that you allow yourself ample time to return the car and close the rental agreement with your car rental at Osaka Kansai Intl Airport. If possible, drop off the vehicle at least 3h before your flight departure.
Once you're done driving, returning the car is straightforward since you're supposed to return it to your car rental agent at the airport. If you rented it on a one-way basis, return it to the specified location. Additionally, you must return the car with a full tank. If you're a foreigner, we advise that you refill the tank in a crewed gas station instead of a self-service station. A manned station saves you the hassle of trying to read Japanese. Don't forget to carry the receipt when closing the contract with your car rental at Osaka Kansai Intl Airport.
Like any other city, you can expect rush hour once you get to central Osaka. You want to avoid driving your rental automobile during these times to ensure you have an easy time getting around. The morning rush is around 7 am to 9 am, and the evening rush lasts from about 5 pm to 7 pm. Many residents commute to and from work during these times. If you must drive during the rush hour, we advise that you consider doing so in the evening because the morning rush is much heavier. The Sunday rush begins earlier in the afternoon as many people return from their weekend trips.
