Car rental at Rijeka Airport

Since all the car hire agencies have their offices in the airport terminal, you have all the same amenities at the airport available to you. This means comfortable seating, toilets and a baby care room, a cafe and bar, and duty-free shopping.

Drivers must be at least 21 years old to hire a car, as well as have a valid driving licence, and have held it for at least one year or two years depending on the car hire agency. Drivers might be required to be even older for different vehicle types. In addition to the driver’s licence, the car hire agency will usually ask for a second proof of ID such as a passport.  A debit or credit card might be required for a temporary hold to be put on it for potential fees.

When it’s time to drive back to the airport from the mainland, there will be a mandatory toll of kn35 (around £4) to access the island of Krk, payable upon arrival. After that, either park the car in one of the parking spots from where the car was picked up, or if the signs instruct, a designated area for returns. A staff member will collect the keys, inspect the car to make sure it is in the same condition as it was when picked up, and also make sure that you remembered to refill the fuel tank (remember to also check it was full to begin with when picking the car up). If you are returning the car out of hours, you will have to deposit the keys into the provided drop box instead.
