Due to flight cancellation in December 2021 we took one way rental from Sacramento to Seattle. The staff was great at pick up but also drop off. The car, GMC Acadia was surprisingly good. A small turbo engine but very efficient with gas consumption. Clean and comfortable, handled the road conditions very well and it was super fast, easy to over speed in the high way.

Car was great. Staff was helpful and nice. The policy regarding renting with a debit card is insane and extremely inconvenient. They required us to use a credit card instead of a debit card because we didn’t have a flight landing in sacramento. We live in sacramento so that’s not reasonable. We simply wanted to rent a car from sacramento, drive it to Vegas and then fly from Vegas. The policy is not reasonable and needs revision.

The car smelled of recently cleaned cigarette smoke, which was unfortunate. It dissipated by the end of the weekend. Customer service was excellent, particularly at the counter when we arrived. Dropping the car off was a breeze and getting back to the airport was effortless.

We literally waited an hour in a long line to pick up our car. There were two agents working. They both looked bored and were not working quickly at all. There were twenty people in the line. When we finally got served we were told that the type of car we had reserved wouldn't be available for 20-30 minutes, or we could pay more for an upgrade. My spouse and I are retired and have traveled for 40+ years together. This is the worst pickup we have ever experienced. However, the car was fine and return was easy.

The car wasn't ready so we had to wait 40 minutes for it, and when we got it, it was not really clean, they did a quick wash. Returning it was easy and quick. Overall I am happy with the service.

I rented with Budget since it is a bigger company thinking that I would get great customer service but was I wrong. When I got to the rental to check in there was only one agent working, no cars available, and I had to wait 2.5 hrs to get my rental. Due to that I missed my business meeting, which I had to reschedule for the next day. My travel plan in whole was delayed due to the lack of customer service that was provided to me. Got charged an extra fee since I dropped the rental late. This is the worse experience I've had with a rental company.

Kayak Estimated cost at ~$75, paid $121.93 for the rental. Associate at pickup was entirely inept at his job and should be blacklisted from any direct contact service job, wasted 15+ minutes inputting data into his system, ended up having to do it twice(cc,id). The associate then had to have another employee finish with their own client and then come help me get the rental ready. When returning Filled car completely with proper gasoline and dropped off at airport. Charged a separate $104.93 after the fact for unknown reasons. It could possibly have been from the extra time my rental associate had to input my info. I was told at the time, that the extra rental had been removed.

The associates at the pick up were very friendly and the service was quick! What was disappointing about it was I purchased insurance from a company on their rental site, then was told that they didn't accept that insurance!?? Sooo I bought a policy that they don't honor. I called the "insurance" company but after golding for 15 minutes decided to hang up ( not how I wanted to start my vacation)! Also, the car that I "thought" I was getting was no longer available and was given a mediocre car with dirty windows. The unlimited mileage is a good thing though...

Scammers. Put an advance deposit on the rental, then they charged the my credit card for $230 at the counter. Only after the paperwork was complete did they tell me it would be a TWO HOUR WAIT FOR A CAR! They gestured where I could sit and wait, amid FIFTY PEOPLE similarly situated. Then, the to extend my $96 car one more day they charged $175! TOTAL SCAMMERS.!

Pickup counter was understaffed and I waited about 30 minutes to pick up the car. At night it was hard to see, but in daylight I noticed the car seats had some candy stains from previous renters. The car was a slightly upgraded size from what I reserved, and I'm confident it was the best price I could have gotten for those dates.

Vehicle was clean and performed well.We waited an hour and a half to get the car because there were two agents at the counter and one hundred people in line. Everybody was furious. Mainly because the price of the rental was triple of what it normally is. I had to rent a car. They stole money from me. That price should have been illegal. I'm still pissed off about that price!

Friendly staff, easy drop offThe extra $100 I had to pay above and beyond what kayak.com said I would pay which turned out to be about $100/day. Kayak had me pay upfront and then pay on pick- up. I had to pay another $100 when I dropped off the car - state taxes they said. I was not happy.

The car I got was low on oil and needed service. After driving to my hotel in Los Angeles I called emergency roadside service and they told me to drive it to LAX (40min away at night or 1hr+ in the day) to switch cars. Payless won’t come swap the car out for you. I decided to go in the middle of the night even though I was exhausted because my day was too busy. Roadside service told me it was open 24hrs but it wasn’t! Afterwards I couldn’t get through to them on the phone so I just drove the car for another day. When I turned the car in I told the person what happened expecting some sort of price break for the trouble. Instead I got a lecture about how I should have brought the car back to them right away. Never again would I rent a car from them.

Pick up in Sacramento went very well. The actual pick up was through the Budget Counter. Pick up was organized, friendly and ready upon arrival. The actual car however had some safety issues that I felt should have been addressed before renting. 1. Tires--the tread on the passenger tires had been so worn, that you could not see the raised lettering of the tire name. And to think I traveled from Lake Tahoe to Reno in a snowstorm on those tires does not sit well with me. 2. The hood almost looked like it was opened because of the gap on the driver side. It seemed twisted. 3. There was blue tape on the bottom of the bumper indicating the previous driver had scraped the side. 4. I had 600 miles until the oil needed changed. I have never gotten into a rental car where I had a warning that the oil needed changed. I feel these were serious issues that put my family in danger. When I addressed that with the drop off location--it did not seem serious to them and they felt that it was just the car. I will pay the higher cost for a safer car for the next rental.

This was the worst rental experience I've ever had!!! Didn't have what I requested. Gave me a car with no spare tire. Left me stranded on the side of the road with two flat tires. Roadside assistance didn't pick me up for over nine hours! Then had to drive me 2.5 hours back to the airport. Didn't arrive until 2:30 am! Where I slept in the back seat. Being at the airport 7 hours before my flight!!! I will never book a car through kayak or payless and will make sure nobody else in my friends or family does either!

The drop off was a bit odd, the location is away from the airport so I went to drop off but they were closed at noon and gave the option to drop keys off or go back to the airport and drop it off there. Wished there was more communication about that instead of having to go back and forth.

Great service and great carThey recommended a Ford Fusion hybrid which was totally new to us. They said it was a very comfortable ride. We spent hours a day in it driving all over California and it was exceptionally comfortable. Saved gas money due too hybrid. Had plenty of power for our needs and no problems with it whatsoever.Trunk space is limited but worked out find for us since only two of traveling

When I called the Sacramento office the day before, the rep said most likely I would get a small SUV or mini-van as that's what they had the most of...and that's what I would most likely get... Great valueWe got a great deal with this rental. Car worked out great and was as expected. Drop off was excellent too, fasts and rep was really friendly.On arrival/pickup we did not have a good interaction with the rep. He was very confusing, stating that our vehicle did not have 4wd and wanted to upgrade me and charge me more. This was frustrating as I had called prior to booking to try to secure a 4wd vehicle. I decided against the additional upgrade and he still wanted to charge me more $ even though I had already prepaid and looked at me like I was crazy when I told him he prepaid. Fortunately we got in the car and there was a 4wd function as had been advertised.

Less than promised- not a Toyota RAV4 but a 2WD JeWhen our car was unsafe to make it over the mountain pass in snow, a local Enterprise dealer allowed us to drop it off without crossing the mountains. He suggested that we might get a more snow-worthy vehicle from Enterprise, but we did not pursue that and found alternate transportation.We expected and needed a 4WD SUV. The car provided at Sacramento was not that, and getting the type of vehicle we expected required an upgrade. So we took what was provided. But when it was time to return the car, the mountain passes required either 4WD or chains and we did not have that. Our rental was billed as RAV4 or "similar"..but similar meant just another vehicle of similar size, not one that performs as well.

The car was nice and the price affordable. It was only a short shuttle from the airport. The people at the drop-off were also super nice.The pickup was not pleasant. My flight had been delayed for four hours and I was sick, so I was exhausted and not feeling well when I arrived since I also had not eaten much all day. I was told the car was going to be driven around the side of the building for me to pick up. They handed me the keys, told me it was some kind of Nissan and didn't say the color or anything. I walked around the side of the building and a BUNCH of cars had been driven up, including a Nissan that was not my car. I couldn't find my car. I had to walk back around the building and the counter staff seemed annoyed I needed help. I was almost in tears at this point because I was so tired. I just needed a little help and kindness. It turned out the car had not been driven up and was across the parking lot. The guy walked me halfway too it then handed me the keys and made a vague gesture before turning back to the building without a word.

Staff at Location Was Great, Phone Support Not SoMy flight got delayed past the time they were supposed to close. Some of the other rental places in the same building were closed and people weren't able to get their vehicles. Alamo stayed open at least an hour past closing time to help out, and if they minded staying late for work I would have never noticed. Very friendly, great service.The phone support was pretty poor. The first lady I talked to before my flight left was friendly and polite, but all she could tell me was "They usually stay open if flights are delayed, but it's Friday night, so it depends..." What does that even mean? Anyway, she said she'd put a note on my rental saying that I'd be arriving late, and she told me to call back as soon as I got in. I called Alamo's main support number again as soon as I landed, but the guy on the phone insisted that they'd be closed since it was a little after their listed closing time. I already knew their listed closing time, I explained, but the lady I talked to before my flight had said they would probably stay open a little later so maybe he could check for me? He gave me a number for the local branch so I could try to call them (apparently he couldn't put me on hold and do it himself because that would've been too helpful). It rang through to voice mail twice, but the message didn't mention Alamo at all. I assume he gave me the wrong number, or maybe I wrote it down wrong (it wouldn't have mattered if he'd just called them for me like a decent customer service person would do). So now I was pretty sure I was screwed. I called back to the main number and got the same guy, and he was totally unhelpful again. All I wanted at that point was anything helpful about what I could do if they were closed (could I cancel, get a discount, sleep on the floor in the rentals building, or what?), but the only thing he told me was "you can go there tomorrow morning when they open." Even if he couldn't help, a little bit of understanding or politeness would've been great, but no such luck. Maybe if I'm being generous it wasn't the worst customer service I've ever had, but if so it wasn't by much. Thankfully the guy didn't know what the hell he was talking about and they were still open so it didn't matter.

Pickup and return agents were friendly. Car was good, nice to have Siruis XM, LTE hot spot and Apple CarPlay.Waited over 45 minutes in line for only 3 guests in front of me. The system seemed very unorganized. Agent had to run back and forth to car lot multiple times to get keys. First car he got for us was apparently already rented. No inspection was done upon check out, this is a huge RED FLAG. It was up to us to go over the car and markup the damage report in a dark parking lot with little light after waiting forever in line. Upon return the agent was very critical of every piece of damage. Luckily we had caught everything and had marked it on the inspection form.

Upsoldget there safelyThey took advantage of the customer as there was a big storm and upsold me for a slightly better SUV that had all wheel driv. I had preciously rented an all whell drive suv and they confirmed over phone it was, but when I get there they tell me ita 2wheel drive and will cost 165% of my original reservation tk get a all wheel drive vehicle, not even 4x4. Just terrible business practice.

Up Sold, under deliveredThat I made it safe in the snowstormSince there was a big storm, I called ahead to confirm SUV had 4x4 or all wheel drive and was told most had all wheel drive and it wouldn't cost more than $20/day for 4wheel drive. That said, I did not cancel and book a 4x4 at similar price with another rental company. When I arrived the prices got much higher and told no SUV's have al wheel drive, so I was forced to buy a more expensive vehicle and it was a very dated old jeep. I paid 165% of the original booking for an SUV! Never again.

This place would not let me pick up the car. I didn’t have a credit card on me just debit cards and a credit card in my apple wallet but of course the equipment is too old and they can’t take apple wallet cards. I was stranded! Luckily Hertz let me rent withe a deposit, of course it was double the price to rent a car on the day of but what could I do. Avis policy and equipment caused a horrible experience and I will never use them again

The rental car we requested was not available, so the Avis in Sacramento gave us a different model. After a few hours of driving, the oil light came on. We stopped and discovered that the dip stick had not been secured and the engine had been spewed all over the engine. We then went to a roadside mechanic who informed us the engine was almost completely out of oil. This occured directly before we were driving down the Pacific Coast Highway around Big Sur, California. If the engine light had alerted us 20 minutes later that the engine was almost out of oil, we wouldve been stranded along the coast without cell service in an extremely remote location. Completely unacceptable.

Staff, vehicleAt Sacramento airport, they did not honor the amount I had with online reservation. I have $11.00 something on insurance and they sid they have their own insurance at $ 17.00 so I have to get their higher insurance.

I mistakenly reserved a car in SAC rather than SAL. The Avis lady was very nice in SAL giving me a new rental at a reasonable price and cancelling my SAC reservation. But Kayak nevertheless charged me a $50 fee for not cancelling the SAC reservation. When I called Avis they said they could not do anything about it because it was a Kayak charge. I don’t know how to contact Kayak other than this.

Stripped van. Seats uncomfortable. No back up camera. I am elite status yet I was offeredno choice and directed to a specific van parked in back saying it was "reserved" for me. It was so lacking amenities I thought I was driving a van from the 90s. I expected much more!

I never rented as when I called to be picked up from the airport they said they close earlier than the time we agreed for me to drop the car and suggested I should rent from somewhere else

The office was closed without explanation and made us late for our trip as we had to find another rental. Their phone numbers are mostly disconnected. Super unprofessional.Everything.

Staff was extremely unprofessional and does not take accountability for their lack of thoroughness with their product. The van we rented was in severe need of a check-up - tail lights not working, oil change, alignment, electrical, etc.... when this brought to their attention they only made excuses and told us “well, you rented a van.” They didn’t care. Don’t rent a van from this company.

Nothing. Place appears to be close.They don't exist and they need to stop being advertised on the site. Their phone is disconnected and they don't answer. I even looked them up online and called a different number.

I waited at the rental company for two hours and no one ever arrived to rent me a vehicle. I tried reaching them by phone and email, but still haven’t heard back from them.I needed a car, but ended up going to another company the following day.

No cars available!Getting out of there!We drove 40 miles to this location because we couldn’t find a seven passenger vehicle available anywhere else. Upon arrival they informed us that they had no vehicles available, and weren’t sure when they would be available. We waited for about 20 minutes before leaving and going to try our luck at the airport, because we were on a time crunch. There were two other couples in the same situation as us. All three waiting for vehicles. The staff were unhelpful and seemed frantic; not the service i was hoping for after a 40 mile drive!

Phone out of order!! :(Cancelled reservation — was a nightmareThe rental is offsite, not at the rental counter. You are suppose to call a number for them to send a van to pick you up, but the number was out of order. That wasn’t a good sign, so we cancelled the reservation.
