Cons: Car broke down and took them one and half days for the problem to be resolved leaving my wife, two little kids and myself stranded in a 200 people town for two days and unable to enjoy the ski trip that we had booked and paid.

Pros: Easy to book online
Cons: When we arrived to pick up our car the agent didn’t speak English well, which was completely fine, but he opted to sign us up for the most expensive insurance and prepaid gas without asking. After taking my card he handed me a receipt for nearly 500 euro for our $60 rental. When I asked about alternatives he just tried to keep up selling us with veiled threats. We cancelled and rebooked with Enterprise where the service was honestly incredible and we booked our insurance online minutes in advance. I’m still waiting to see if he actually cancelled.

The car was in great shape, clean and almost brand new. We had no trouble at all driving it from Barcelona to Madrid, with stops at Cartagena, Granada and Cordoba. Following the speed limit is important since there are speed radars (cameras) in highways and cities, and for what I’ve heard the fines are pretty hefty.
We declined insurance since we booked the car online and got the insurance from a different company.
The final price for the rental was the same as quoted, and we think it was a great value for our money.
It was our first time renting a car in a foreign country, and it was a great experience. We recommend this service 100%
Hertz went above and beyond
Pros: We had initially rented a manual Fiat 500 but when we got to the rental desk, the Hertz employee gave us a brand-new (18 kms on the odometer), semi-automatic, fully-loaded (leather seats, navigation), Fiat 500S. We had signed up for the most basic and cheapest car and we ended up with a pretty decent one in the same class, and there was no added cost to us.
The unlimited kms were very good for us as we did about 1850 kms of driving over the 8-day rental period. Pick-up and drop-off were quick and easy. The entire experience was enjoyable.
Cons: My only issue, and this has nothing to do with Hertz, is how weak the engine of the Fiat 500 was. We had quite a bit of trouble keeping up with the European traffic on the highway. Driving on the very hilly landscape of Spain made some parts of the highway near impossible to climb without losing much speed. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable rental.

Cons: At Barcelona Airport the car was not ready. We waiting for two hours and they gave us bigger car than we booked in advance. The clerk was pushing insurance on us and I think we pay more for rent than we got the online quote. On the first tank of gasoline, we made 500 km but on next two 700 km. It looks like they didn't fill the tank at first.
Cons: The return lot at BCN is very hard to find. Not Hertz's fault, certainly, but I sure wish someone would fix it!

Cons: Not at all the car I ordered - A Hyundai is NOT a BMW. Hidden charges ($30 airport fee) and add-ons I didn't ask for (second driver, windscreen protection) almost doubled the price before I complained and they dropped some of them. Beware before signing.

Cons: At the check-in I was informed that as the rental was done via a USA based agency and that I was using an EU based credit card and drivers licence , that I was Absolutely OBLIGED to take their full insurance... otherwise the rental would not be honored. This despite I already have a good policy with both my own car and via my gold credit card. The insurance was more than the rental. I feel lied to by Kayak , Europcar, and whatever middle-man you sub-contracted via.

I could have gone back to terminal #1 and gotten the original car, buty ended up with a much larger and more expensive car. They should coordinate between the two terminals. They didn't inspect the exterior of the car when I picked up, but did when i returned it. This could have been a problem though it wasn't.

Worst rent a car ever
Cons: On the spot, when added insurance price was 2.2x more than initially communicated
Car given was not the one reserved,but Hyundai that had some strange features that caused flat battery and left us without the car for half a day ( of course when most needed)
Emergency service from Hertz that was the actual provider behind the Dollar, acted very slowly and fairly unprofessionally. End result was waiting for 3 hours in the garage for them to come with cables and start the engine. At that time they gave us instructions that should be initially communicated.

Complete headache
Cons: I planned to rent a car to take a day drip to an area near Barcelona. The e-mail I received said that I could pick up the car at the Barcelona airport. I went to the airport, but there was no Economy Rent a Car at the airport. Note that I had to pay for the airport shuttle to get to the airport. Airport information had never heard of Economy Rent a Car. I did a Google search for Economy Rent a Car, and found a location off site near the airport. I again paid to transportation to this area. After walking around for approx 45 minutes, it was clear that Economy Rent a Car did not exist. I eventually found a location that does business with Economy. They looked up the reservation, but it had not yet processed. So, I wouldn´t be able to get a car for another 45 minutes, at least. Since this was only going to be a day trip and I had already spent almost 2 hours searching for the car, I cancelled the reservation. The experience caused me to waste a day in Barcelona. I am hesitant to use your service again, since you work with unreliable companies.
Fiat 500 around Catalonia
Pros: Staff was super helpful and quick to get me out the door and check back in. Car was spotless and smelled great. This Fiat drove smooth and handled the mountain roads very well. I had a wonderful 3 days driving around Catalonia.
Cons: 1. I was advised to pay for insurance online when booking so I did. When I showed up they said I had to buy insurance or they would have to put a hold on my creditcard for the Max allowed. I think only 1 of the insurances should have been needed but it seems like that unclear system is in place to maximize profits. 2. Finding this place was very difficult. My booking was through Economy Car Rental. Everyone told me there was no such thing at the Barcelona airport. I finally figured out (from a shuttle bus driver) that it was probably AutoClick and off airport grounds. This type of info could have been so dam simple to relay to me in an email with the confirmation booking. A little map maybe showing me where pickup was as well as the name change. If it was in my email I sure did not find it.

I have had an exchange with priceline on this issue - to no avail. It is for me not acceptable that I'm not aware that the subcontractor of ACE (in this case Goldcar) does not accept the conditions of ACE. Goldcar has been condemned for this business practice in Italy, but not yet in Spain. ACE should stop working with Goldcar or make it clearer to the customer, that the contract via internet will not be honoured upon arrival and that more costs are to be expected.
