The rental car I was given was an absolute disgrace. It was not cleaned, much less sanitized. It was a cheap tin can Kia that shook on the highway if you drove over 60mph. I did not feel safe at all. When I booked on Kayak, I saw I could get an SUV for just $1 more, but when I asked at the Avis counter they told me it would be an additional $20. I will not rent from Avis again with the condition of the unsanitary and unsafe car I was given. Very disappointed.5.6 Fair

Somehow the Avis system couldn't process the rental for more than 30 days even though I was able to book the car online for more than 30 days. This caused a problem and delayed me when I dropped off the car.10.0 Wonderful

I rented the car for two days. Once I showed up, the staffer said that the rental would have to be for three days, since the car rental place was closed on Monday. He also mentioned it when going over all the other terms of the rental; if I wasn't paying attention I wouldn't have noticed it. When I protested and said that we had agreed for two days, the staffer shrugged and said it wasn't their problem. The staffer wasn't rude or unprofessional, he just didn't care.2.0 Poor

The car was in good condition and operated well throughout the rental period.Cons:
The rental company had no record of the rental; we ultimately initiated a new rental agreement, which resulted in our paying an extra $50 over what was advertised on Kayak.2.0 Poor

I called 2 hours before arriving to confirm they had the vehicle. When I arrived they couldn't find the key and after an hour of making me wait said they didn't have a vehicle and blamed Kayak!!!3.6 Poor

The car was dirty, inside and out. A dashboard light went off and I could not figure out what the problem was because the car had no manual. I had to fill out a report with the same data that they had on the computer in a time when I was in a hurry to return the car. the staff were not rude but could had been more helpful.9.2 Wonderful

The staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. The drop off in New York is appealing. The most unfriendly, bossy and cold people I’ve experienced in a service industry.Cons:
The people working in New York act like they hate their job and can’t be bothered to help you. When I was pulling into the hertz lot one of the workers were screaming at me to move up. He could have asked politely. I’ve lived in nyc for 15 years and this behavior is unacceptable. It’s a horrible client experience. Enterprise in NYC treats their customers much better.10.0 Wonderful

Staff was excellent and friendly. From The beginning i had a great experience. The car i got was clean and comfortable. It was ready for me when I arrived at the store. I was in and out in 10 minutes. I rented a mid-level SUV for my cross country road trip and got upgraded. It may have been because of lack of inventory but regardless it was a pleasant surprise. Best experience I’ve had renting a car.Cons:

The drop off was horrific because the hertz agent told me they were not able to release the hold charge they put on my credit card and would instead be sending me a voucher for a future rental. It took a phone call to the national office and a conference call with the bank that issued my credit cardCons:

Despite our reservation, they had no car. Manager told us she couldn't help, so we should call customer service. They offered us more expensive reservation at location 6 miles away, but at a branch that closed in 8 minutes. And they didn't catch the impossibility of traveling 6 miles across suburban DC in 8 minutes, I did!One location in Rockville
