After arriving at the airport I walked to the entrance to the area where all the rental companies serve customers. Lo and behold, there's a line stretching forever! I go and wait in line for almost an hour. After all that time passes, one of the Dollar Rental reps announces that there is a shortage of cars! I wait even longer, while some people trickle away. Two hours after reaching the counter, I show them my valid out of state license, which I had recently swapped out with my in-state license. I was told that they would not accept an out of state license because it was marked "invalid" but the local DMV. The representative then said that if I bring my in-state license, upon arrival, they would help me right away and I need not wait in line all over again. So I go and get my in state license from home, which takes me more than an hour, and go straight to the same counter where I was initially refused service. Another guy was sitting there - an Ethiopian/Somali guy with a nasty and hostile attitude named Rob. I explained to Rob in excrutiating detail what I had been through: 1) Waiting in line for hours 2) Car shortage 3) Forced to go home and bring in-state license 4) Promised customer service without having to wait in line after I brought my in-state license. Rob outright REFUSED to help me. He was arrogant, rude, impolite, and when I told him that I would file a complaint against him, he boasted that "by all means". I left the counter and walked out looking for the manager. The manager wasn't present in the manager's spot. I walked back to re-enter the premises and the manager was sitting outside on a stool talking to someone. I explained to the manager the whole saga all over again, and he too was unwilling to believe me. After repeating my story over and over, he finally called the guy who was on the prior shift to confirm the veracity of my situation. I did not hear the conversation the manager had on the phone, but the manager walked with me to Hertz rental and asked the Hertz folks to help me out! Imagine, the Dollar Rental manager has to cut a sorry figure and ask another rental agency to rent me a car, but could not convince his own minion to help me. This was the most unpleasant rental experience of my life. Rob should be fired right away. I here by call on Dollar Rental to dismiss Rob for his horrible, hostile, rude, obnoxious, behavior.

I was charged $10 a gallon to refill the gas tank when i returned it. The final bill was $311 on top of the $343 I already paid to reserve it. Rip off by the fine print. This is the second time this has happened to me when using dollar rental. I will never use them again.

I was told to pick any car on the back line, which I did--the first one I came to. When I checked out, they asked if the gas tank was full. It was not. They noted the deficiency and sent me on my way. In the sunlight, I could see that the car was dirty, and there was a newspaper on the floor. In short, the car was not serviced before it was put on the line to rent. I won't use Dollar again.

No cars were available when I arrived at dollar despite having a reservation. I was told there would be a15-30 minute wait. There were 10-12 others also waiting for cars. After 45 minutes I was sent to hertz where I was given a mini van instead of the requested midsize. Service was good but I’ve heard that a lack of cars at National airport is a common problem.

I was charged $377.26 extra and I have no clue what that charge is for. Didn’t even receive a receipt for this charge. This $377 is on top of $1097.33 I already paid before the trip started. Definitely not worth $1400. Use another rental company. You will save more.

The pick up process for Dollar is fundamentally broken. Most other rental car companies have a way to expedite the pick up process by entering information before you get to the pick up location, but that is not possible with Dollar. Instead you are forced to sit through a process that is way too long per person. In addition, on this particular day there was only one employee working with literally 20 people in line. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that they had some employees not show up for work, but two major issues: 1. First and foremost is that since it takes so long per person, I had to wait for an hour and half to get my car. If they were more efficient per person it would have help them get through this situation. 2. Second, I was there for an hour and a half, but the people an hour ahead of me told me they were in line for an hour as well. So, Dollar management couldn't get someone there as backup in the middle of the day with 2 and a half hours? That is unacceptable in my opinion for a major car rental company at a major airport at prime business hours.

Three hour wait for car - that was not cleaned. Poor customer service with representative upselling add-ons without my consent. Terrible.
