Top tips for renting a car at Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport

  • Edinburgh is a perfect starting point for discovering the remote Scottish Highlands. Buses and trains have limited timetables and can only get you so far, so car hire at Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport will allow you to explore in the most comfortable and timely way. Hiring a car also means that you can easily alter plans according to the unpredictable weather and avoid waiting in the rain for buses.
  • Car hire at Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport will give you the freedom to veer off the beaten track and to take the time to soak up the magnificent views. With 12 different National Tourist Routes throughout Scotland, you can venture along more scenic routes in your hire car than would be possible on public transport. You will have more time to pack in the things you enjoy so you can get the most out of your getaway.
  • You can collect your hire car at Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport and drive into the city in around 30min via the A8. Traffic can be busy during peak times, with restricted, costly parking. Ensuring you have a place to stay with parking available will make life easier. Alternatively, travelling into the city on public transport is quick and easy, so you could always return to collect your hire car when you're ready to explore further afield.
  • When choosing Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport car hire, we recommend booking in advance to secure the best deal, especially if you're visiting during peak times like school holidays. Find a bargain by booking in January when many car hire companies offer promotions. If your trip is last minute you can still secure a good deal, especially if you're flexible with pickup and drop-off times, and don't mind which model of car you receive.
  • Book your rental car at Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

The gentleman who helped us at the counter was very kind however we had a reservation on a Sunday for a two week rental. Our flight was canceled from the states to Edinburgh and it delayed us one day. I emailed Green motion to advise them of the flight cancellation and next day pick up.They did tell me they would be able to reinstate my rental however they could not guarantee the car class which was economy. When we got to Green motion, they charged us an additional US$1000 for a full-size car when we were adamant we wanted the smallest car possible due to our unfamiliarity driving the narrow roads in opposite directions . They told us this was the only available vehicle however there were hundreds of smaller cars on the lot that day and they obviously could’ve made a price concession understanding that our flight was canceled. So a car rental that was originally meant to cost us $300 was $1300 plus the additional gas and stress on the roads Total rip off agents. Had we had time we would’ve simply found another rental car company to rent from that day however we were time crunched with our arrival having already been delayed a solid 24 hours. We really felt taken advantage of by this company and do not suggest renting from them or being steered by their low rates. Many other people were having issues at the rental counter which is also not convenient as it’s offsite from the airport. As mentioned the gentleman at the counter was very kind, but said his hands were tied due to management’s decision-making. Pass on green motion!

They gave me a car that had been sitting. All four tires were partially deflated and as soon as In left I had to deal with Finding a spot to inflate them. One of the tires I had to inflate every couple of days before it finally went flat and I had to replace it. Car was not well cleaned out. And the fees for insurance are insane. Either you have an extra £2000 for them to hold onto or you give them $1000. Next time I will go to Enterprise… I’ve had much better experiences with them.

We did not get a van, which was requested/booked. They gave us a "7 seater" Luxury SUV that had barely enough space for our luggage. We needed a van for a wheelchair. They offered us a van for an extra £1000, for the 4 day rental. Felt like I was being ripped off. The 2 other separate customers next to me were having the same trouble. We also had to put an £800 deposit on the vehicle.

I had selected and booked a car based on its size and trunk storage (Skoda Otavia) and was quoted a price of $1088. Just before traveling I called to confirm my reservation and was told that the price was now $1239 because the first quoted price didn't include tax and surcharges. But when I arrived to pick up the car, it wasn't available. I was then told that the car that they had for me wouldn't be suitable or 4 adults with just carry on luggage (note no big luggage) but they could rent me a car that was better suited to our needs, but now the price changed to $2364 so the price had more than doubled from the original quote. As it turned out the Volvo that we ended up renting looked good and drove well but was too low to the ground and too hard to get in and out of for 4 adults in their 70's. And it was a bit rough on the poor roads of the northern part of the country, I assume it was because low profile tires.

We were very pleased with the upgraded vehicle we rented, however the pick up was absolutely ridiculous. We arrived 15 minutes ahead of pur reservation time yet were placed 18th in the "queue". We were forced to wait nearly 2 hours to get our car despite having already booked in advance online. This was the low point of our trip. It cost us valuable time ahead of a long day of driving. Very, very bad service by the Hertz affiliates in Edinburgh. Compact SUV

KAYAK
Very clean car and very fast and thorough pick up/drop off. Confusion on where to go to pick up the car as directions said airport, which meant asking directions to the shuttle that takes you to the pick up point.

KAYAK
The car provided was fine. The shuttle is a relatively long drive to their off-sight location, then a 45 minute wait until we were in the car, then a low-fuel light came on within a couple of miles of the pickup spot (the agent told me it had around 1/4 tank left). It wasn't easy to find a fuel station in a foreign location during a rain storm! The waiting room at the off-site location was crowded with clients renting and returning cars so that several people had to stand for long times. I would never again rent from this company, nor use Kayak if that is their best offering.
