I didn’t drive in Edinburgh. I used it to drive around the islands and highlands. For Americans, it should be known the roads are much more narrow than the US, and the speed limit is higher considering how narrow they are. Drive where you feel comfortable, but have the courtesy to let others pass you at the designated “passing zones.” Also, in a lot of areas there is no shoulder, and it’s easy to fall into pot holes or clip debris on the side that can cause a blowout . Lastly, be very careful of the unpredictable sheep situation, especially if there are a lot of lambs around. The babies sort of prance around without a car in the world.

Drop off with John at Avis was really great! Such courteous and friendly service. So nice to see such professionalism. Would be great to have instructions in the car for using Satnav maps. I used my iPhone but was a little confused with car screen presentation at times. Overall a fabulous experience and would definitely recommend Avis at this location.

We had an excellent friendly experience!. The service lady at the country allowed me to change our car pick up time and upgrade our car. The valet fella was very friendly, courteous and did a great job of showing to use the digital dashboard functions. I definitely rate my experience 5 Stars!

Really great experience! Didn’t know if this was a really secure place when I first booked. Upon arrival into the parking lot it was clear to me that I made the right choice! We were greeted with an upgrade to a brand new vehicle to take into the Scottish highlands! The car was very clean and the staff even offered to drive us to the train station to catch our train into England when we were done with our rental. McNicolls was above and beyond what I thought it would be. Staff was super friendly too!

The staff was very professional and friendly, and I never felt like they were taking advantage of me as a foreign customer, unlike another car rental place in London. The young man who checked out my car was very responsive and efficient. The only minor complaint is their location is slightly difficult to find.

Pretty good all round experience. The staff in particular were superb. High quality feel to the offices and overall experience. Check-in was a little tricky due to the split nature of the registration and garage desks, but not terrible. We went to the wrong one first.

It was terrible. We had reserved 2 cars to hold 7 people. Upon arrival, they gave 2 cars to hold 5 people. They then called a different Enterprise location and we heard that one location had two cars that could hold 7 people. We were then driven from the original location to the other location. Upon arrival at the new location we were told we were only getting one of those cars and our other car would be the 5 seater from the original location. Of the two original cars, we were given the smallest. We reserved and paid for two cars to hold 7 people. While my reservation eventually met that requirement, the other reservation in the group did not. We are extremely dissatisfied with the outcome, the lack of communication, and the lack of cars as reserved in the first place.

Instead of taking an authorization of 500GBP, like every other rental place in the world, they took a deposit. When I called the call centre, even they were surprised. They took the money at 1.78CDN, and when returned, it came back at 1.66CDN. FOR A LOSS!!! BE AWARE OF THIS SCAM!! I won't be renting from Enterprise ever again after this.

Kiosk style mobile pickup in an underground garage where there is no phone reception. The credit card reader wasn’t working and they wanted to drive me to another location to pay. It took 40 minutes, even though I was the only customer and they decided at the end to use their own network to call in my payments and details to the other station. On return at 515 pm there was no one there and no sign of any kind, such as explaining where the key drop was. The Budget phone lines close at 4pm (one) and 5 pm (the other). Very annoying.

The car was to come with a GPS but it wasn’t installed. They don’t provide portable GPS units. Fortunately we have a cell phone with us and the charge cord fits. They were very helpful in explaining the car’s features and the car manual was supplied.

Total lack of transparency regarding the daily price. We prebooked/prepaid a class and the end charge was double what we expected. No mention at the counter. You don’t get a copy of the invoice at drop off - you get it days later and then they make it difficult to see the charges/details. Unacceptable customer experience with Sixt.

The car worked and was cheap.

Cons:

Drop off and pick up was incredibly slow, the shuttle runs like once an hour and the staff is in no hurry either. Literally took me 90 min to pick up and drop off, and there were no lines to wait in. If it weren't for the incredibly cheap rates, there's no way this place would be in business. The service was really lacking, the rental office looks like an old shed, and the staff is dishonest, trying to charge you for "damage" to the vehicle that clearly was there when you picked up the car. Definitely not worth the hassle to save a few bucks.

Great service, got the car I reserved. It was clean. Note that if you have CDW insurance coverage on your credit card and plan on using that (and not purchasing theirs), you must provide the written proof from your credit card company upon picking up the car. Otherwise, they won't rent their vehicle. They're also off site a few KM away from EDI airport. They have a free shuttle, but you must allow an extra 30 minutes in your plans especially if you return the car and fly out. Knowing these details will make your experience much better.

Dropping off the car after hours no one let us know that we needed to pay an additional fee. Also, we had to drop it off at a nearby gas station, however the attendant there had no idea what we were talking about. After arguing with him for ages, making us late to get to the airport, he finally contacted his manager who explained the car return process to him and we were able to drop off the car.

We had to delay our pickup of our rental car since the streets were all blocked off in Edinburgh (due to the Queen at St. Giles Cathedral). The gentlemen at the Easirent Edinburgh were so easy to work with and really understanding when we had to make changes to our plans due to the Queen's presence in the city. When we finally picked up our vehicle on Wednesday, the process was smooth and they had it all ready for us. We had a great experience with Easirent.

There was an unexpected charge that wasn’t noted when I booked and paid for the rental online, months before our trip. It was for licenses and fees as well as a premium location tax. A car was available for me to drive. That was good. The bad: 1) Original quote was for £ 275 - the local Hertz desk charged me £ 691 and tried to charge me over £ 800!! 2) I requested an automatic transmission and got a stick 3) there was a huge scratch in the rear passenger door 4) There was no return sign at the Inverness airport for Hertz, all the other rental car agencies were represented but not Hertz. We had to drive around for 10 min trying to find it, and luckily saw the tiny Hertz sign upon leaving the airport. Kind of a disaster regarding the drop off.

This was supposed to be a budget deal, but 3 days ended up costing well over $1000 Aus. The "Dollar" franchise in Edinburgh was operated by Hertz, who bent over backwards to help sort everything out, but "budget" it wasn't.
