Top tips for renting a car at Gustavia St Barthelemy airport

  • Explore the beautiful island of Saint Barthelemy affordably using a car rental at Gustavia St Barthelemy Airport (SBH). Taxis are a costly alternative to moving around during your stay, especially if you have a packed itinerary. Instead, head to the rental car center at the airport and grab a rental of your choice. Moreover, a rental car at Gustavia St Barthelemy Airport allows you to get to any point of the island within minutes since the airport is centrally located.
  • Thanks to the different agency options at Gustavia St Barthelemy Airport, you can easily find the most suitable rental car based on your needs. You also get to compare the different rates of different companies before settling on the most conducive option for your pocket. The agencies have counters at the car rental center within the terminal building, just a short walk from the baggage claim area. The parking lot, where you will pick up your Gustavia St Barthelemy Airport car rental, is just behind the counters, a few minutes away by foot.
  • We recommend returning your car rental at Gustavia St Barthelemy Airport within the time agreed upon with your provider during the rental time. This way, you will evade any fines associated with late returns. It's best to return your rental during the operating hours of your provider. However, if you have a late night or early morning flight to catch at the airport, you can request to drop off the vehicle outside the opening hours if the service is available. Bear in mind that this will attract an additional charge.
  • If you want to escape the long queues at the rental counters when your flight arrives at Saint Barthelemy, consider booking a flight that arrives before noon or after 6 pm. This is because the airport experiences busy times between noon and 6 pm, making you wait for hours before being served at the rental counter. During the holidays like Christmas and New Year, the airport also gets busy, making rental pick up and drop off quite hectic.
  • Book your rental car at Gustavia St Barthelemy airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

I made the reservation and arrived on site during the time I requested the car. The station was iopne but the attendant was not a the location. Waited 1 hr and then called and reached out the Budget via phone from another rental company. Noone answered and no one showed up. I ended renting from someone else. I am told that this is typical for that location for Budget.

The attendant lady was very nice and professional. No issues with the rental. They called out the marks on the vehicle beforehand, emailed them to us, and we were able to return the car without any problems. Thank you budget St Barths!

The experience, unfortunately, was only 2 out of 5. I had entered and uploaded all information including license scan and credit card prior to arrival, but was asked to provide everything again and also to enter physical card and PIN (which I did not have). Apple Pay was not possible, nor was swipe and sign. I ended up paying online with my card. The car we received was absolutely filthy on the outside and I was expected to identify scratches, which was impossible. The car was an embarrassment to drive in the state it was in, until the first good rain washed off the worst of it. I asked to put my Miles & More number on to the system, but the lady did not know how to do this or did not want to. Her overall attitude was less than pleasant anyway.

I bought insurance through Kayak. When I picked up the car the SixT agent said we have to put a €1500 hold on your card in case of damage. I never heard of that before. I took the car and after 5 days returned it in the same condition I received it. The SixT agent said all was good and I expected the €1500 hold to be reversed. It’s been more than 24 hours but the hold is still on. Be careful when renting from SixT.
