The computer system was down for more than 4 hours before we landed. Avis did not alert us, rebook us, or direct us to another rental agency. Instead, we were forced to sit in a line of 40+ people for close to 2 hours to get our vehicle. When we finally did get to the counter, the vehicle we ordered/held was unavailable. They tried to "upgrade" me from an economical standard sized car to a pickup truck, knowing I had an infant in a car seat. We I refused, they put me in an SUV. I asked for a compact SUV, and instead was forced into the largest SUV they rent, a 7 passenger gas-gazzler. For reference, it was me and my infant only, and we had a 95-mile road trip to make. They assigned our rental car to us and another customer from Budget. We came back to the desk and they assigned us to another car only had 2 bucket seats in the back which would not work with the baby car seat. They then gave us the Ford Explore and when we drove out to the gate to leave, the attendant said the paperwork was not right. The representative never input the Ford Explore in the system. We spent more than an hour straightening the mess out and finally we were on our way back to the west coast. It was not an enjoyable experience.Reviewed 2024 Oct 28

Woman who "helped" was rude, store was filthy. Woman tried to get rid of us multiple times cause we had questions about the car that had been set aside for us. Car was more of a compact than a mid size! Multiple times she tried to get us to leave and go pick up from another location. Had "issues" with my card, even though it showed green. Said her system was denying us. So we went to enterprise. In. Out. No issues. Didn't even take 30 minutes. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.Reviewed 2024 Oct 27

I received a hybrid that had less than 10 perfect battery life. I did not enjoy the car for the entire first day of rental because I was afraid to drive it due to the battery life being so low. I had to find someone willing yo place an app on their phone and then drive out of the way to locate a plug in that I had to pay money to charge the vehicle up before I could comfortably or safely drive anywhere. There was one employee at the airport pickup counter for over 20 guests. I was only third in line, and it took over 30 minutes to be seen. I can only imagine how long other guests waited. The car we received wouldn't accelerate at a reasonable rate, making driving on the highway or merging extremely dangerous. No instructions were provided for dropoff and the only inclination we had of where to go was a measly paper sign in a parking lot that said Avis. Never received an itemized receipt by email, only the charge on my card which verified it was returned. I still have no idea what I was charged for. I rent with Avis whenever I need a car rental because they are typically so reliable. However, my experience in Santa Fe has me rethinking which company I will book with in the future.Reviewed 2024 Oct 25
