Once I arrived to Alamo counter at the airport the lady there told me that the reservation was there but they had no vehicle for me at that time so she drove me through another company which provided the worst vehicle and service I ever had in my life I don’t know if this was something from Alamo or a scam from the lady at the counter but either way this was the worst car rental experience in my life

The Alamo agent stated he had no automatic cars available & we were fine with taking a manual vehicle. The agent kept saying no no…my friend will give you a bigger car for less money & insurance coverage. We were then brought to His friend at MEX rental car. When the Amex agent walked us towards the shuttle to pick up our rental car, he pulled us to the side & extorted a “tip” out of us for giving us a better deal. The car we got was filthy inside & out & not a typical Alamo standard type vehicle. The seats were covered in dirt like someone was sweating all over the seats & all the dirt they had on them had sweat right onto the interior. And, to top it all off, the wiper fluid was empty & the wipers were useless…they really needed to be changed out, even if the vehicle had washer fluid in it. Needless to say, even though we ultimately were not allowed to rent from Alamo, our experience was not one I’d like to repeat.

Its very complicated to get to the place, there is no shuttle service and when I got there they had no other cars and were asking for a 3 thousand dollar deposit for an even expense car since they rented the one I had previously reserved

1. Had a $50 taxi to get it 2. they did not have the car, had to wait an hour 3. I had purchased insurance, they said that was no good had pay more than double for the insurance 4 car had scratches on bumper that tye avis person pointed out and he said you can take a picture. I didn’t and he didn’t write it on the paper. Then they blamed me for those scratches. I was renting for a month I returned after a couple of days because I was livid from all tge dishonest meaty. I will never rent from Alamo amd will publish a warning in my travel log about Alamo in Cancun. I also contacted Priceline, and they did nothing. Won’t use Priceline either.

No problem finding a vehicle and making a reservation with Budget. The price, address, and other details communicated clearly.I walked to the Budget office listed on the reservation, only to find the store was closed. I walked to the next nearest Budget rental facility listed via the Kayak portal, only to find that location closed as well. I never got a vehicle. I never received a call or email. At least I wasn't charged.

The staff was friendly.The car was terrible. It was completely beat up with significant dents on every panel. The right side mirror did not work. The battery connection was loose and the car didn’t start on multiple occasions. The tires had a slow leak. The car price as quoted should include the mandatory cost of insurance for non Mexicans and not just say it’s extra.

They cancel my reservation because my flight was delay, I called the company to let them now an they said I had to do a new reservation. I asked him to to Wait for me and he said i should call him when I arrived and he will take care of me. I call when I arrived t He told me he was sending somebody for me and I had to wait 2.5 hours in the airport with my family in the street, they never showed up. Horrible service, very disappointed.

We were given a car that was much, much smaller than what was reserved. We arrived late due to delayed flight but that’s no excuse to give away our car and offer us something half the size of what I booked. Never will rent from Budget again.

NothingI booked my car from USA when I went there the personal told me that they don’t have Jeep and said his friend will take care of me I don’t speak Spanish and I needed up with Firefly by Herrz as it seems like that there is guy at airport who get commission from rental car company and other rental car companies employees give him business I needed up paying 140 more because budget can’t keep their part of bargain I will never use third party site and budget ever again

Everything was great but we were given a price of $72.01 for 5 days including taxes. In reality, it costs us over $400 by adding the no fault insurance. There has to be a happy medium where good coverage does not cost an arm and a leg !

Drop off was super easy and streamlinedEuropcar in Cancun refused to accept my CDW, collusion damage waiver. Even though i had all the correct paperwork and even called the company who handled the coverage. Apparently even though it states they will accept CDW, they will not and they will give you a huge runaround as to why which isn't true, but when you are there, you basically have no choice but to accept whatever they charge for the extra coverage. My rental was $94, they charged an additional $250. This should just be charged up front to avoid all the hassle

Poor experience enough that I will never consider using Europcar again and reconsider Kayak as well.The staff lied to me immediately upon entering-which took a half hour. They told me that they had no contract with our insurance companies, American Express and State Farm , and as I result the company policy was that I had to buy full insurance. They also stated that the price quoted on the internet did not bind them as Kayak was only an agent. I have lived in Mexico for years and know that he was in fact lying to me. Ultimately we 'negotiated' a price that was twice what we were promised. I ended up with 3 insurances covering the vehicle and almost wished something happened to it. The gas tank was only a quarter full- I've never seen that.

Literally nothingThey simply did not have a car. It is a car rental without cars available. Dozens of passengers like us where trapped there doing paperwork but not getting the car they booked at the end. Never seen a business so disorganized in my life. DO NOT PLACE A RESERVATION WITH THEM, YOU WILL ONLY LOSE YOUR TIME!!

price indicated by kayak/national 1290,87€ is completely wrong / misleading as it does not include the minimum MANDATORY insurance !!! (+/- 400€, only covering third party responsibility !!!) in total I paid 1795€ (+40%) without any proper insurance. for a "full" insurance, they requested another +/- 850€ that I was not willing to pay This is "organized theft" as when your are at the National rental office, 10 minutes in shuttle away from the Cancun Airport, you have no choice anymore... I fully understand that options are not included in the price quoted online but not the mandatory insurance. I will use other providers in the future.

Friendly staff, we had issues with our credit card and they were so patient, gave us water, even gave is a ride to me and my son to get some tacos! The information and communication was great, I would recommend this company at Cancuns airport for sure.

The staff was amazing. It was very easy to pick up and drop offI was quoted 22 dollars a day. I ended up paying more than double that. I didn’t even pay for the insurance and I still payed more than double. It would be nice if the quote told you about fees instead of misleading you to think you’re getting a great deal.

Horrible experienceOur flight was delayed and they cancelled our reservation. Agent at the counter offered an alternative with another company (something nded like something under the table) for five times the cost of my original reservation. In the end we were left without a car.

Overall it was a good experience. Oh I am a little confused how the final price ended up being so much more than what I reserved. I know I did add an extra driver so it was a cost per day but that plus the original reservation wasn’t as much as my final bill which was hard for me to figure out with the peso to US dollar conversion and not understanding the bill itself.

They definitely do inspect the car both on pick up and drop off so be prepared to point things out. It was nice that they emailed multiple times prior to our arrival to explain the government mandated insurance. There was no hard sales pitch on insurance that wasn’t mandatory once we arrived. The staff was super friendly and polite.

Worst rental experience ever...NothingThe vehicles are not serviced regularly. I was given a Chevy sedan with a broken clutch. When I complained they told me I could only get an automatic vehicle if I paid extra. The location is terrible. Will never rent a car here ever again.

Literally nothing.DONT EVER RENT HERE, it’s not actually thrifty it’s Hertz and unless you want to get screwed with whatever price they want to give you then don’t book. Also unless you have a $1500 - $6,000 deposit to leave then don’t even bother. Plus your rental will be at least 3 times what you booked for if they even have a car. Basically they’ll just decide whatever they’re going to charge you like roulette.

It was a complete fiasco. I spent over 2 hours trying to get the Intermediate SUV I confirmed and rented, and the car rental place WOULD NOT honor the rate quoted, they FORCED ME to agree to an upgrade to the Intermediate SUV for a ridiculous extra amount which I had no choice as they were no other cars available due to high demand in Cancun for those dates. I made my reservation with a lot of time in advance and therefore got the rate you confirmed. I will dispute the difference charged to my Credit CardInclude NOT only the type of vehicle but the rental agency CODE with the reservation to avoid this problems in the Future.

Weren’t able to rent a car!NothingI reserved a minivan for our family of 6 traveling together. When we arrived at the Thrifty counter, they told me they didn’t have a minivan for me. I said I made a reservation, he told me that since I didn’t prepay for the rental(which I didn’t know was an option) they didn’t have one for me to rent. We then had to scramble and try to find new transportation to/from the airport to our hotel. I will never rent through this website or Thrifty again

Be careful with renting from Dollar/Hertz, they tried to charge me for unnecessary fees, taxes and insurance, the price doubled from the reserved agreed up amount. At that point it was cheaper to get taxis so we walked away.

Holy Insurance Batman!Dollar rental was a good value. I liked having unlimited miles for our roadtrip.I was surprised that insurance cost almost double what I paid for the rental. It'd be nice to know the insurance prices upfront. Huge sticker shock since my personal insurance wouldn't cover a rental outside the US. In Cancun our flight arrived late at night. I knew arriving late at night might be problematic, but Dollar had reassured me that someone would be available to help us and that they'd shuttle us from the terminal to our vehicle. Well, it was 12:30AM and I couldn't find anyone at or near the terminal to shuttle us. I called 6 times, over 30 minutes, to the number provided and it would just ring endlessly. We finally had to pay for a taxi to take us to the Dollar location about 1/2 mile from the terminal. Finally I was able to talk to someone and drive away with a vehicle at 1:30AM.

Convenient location right by the airport terminalAll employees were polite and friendly and spoke emough English to explain our various options for the required Mexican car insurance. The car was clean and available more ot less immediately when we got through the check-in process. No shuttle bus required as the business is just a 1-minute walk across the street grom the airport terminal building. The prices were the lowest we found.Checkout paperwork took a lot longer than you can believe even though nobody was in line ahead of us, so allow yourself extra time to make it to your flight.

Hidden charges and no pick upNothingOur shuttle was over an hour late. When we finally got to the car rental agency they tried to demand huge fees for extra insurance and taxes that made the rental extremely higher than other agencies. We ended up renting from another company all together and cancelling our reservation and additional purchased insurance because the customer service was so terrible.

They will charge $35/ day more for collision damage wavier and $32/ day for liability insurance. I was able to decline cdw as my credit card covers it but liability insurance was compulsory. Later I found out there are many rentals which give liability insurance for free. So check that out. Don't get Carried away by the low price. And ya they will charge 10% extra for airport rentals + 4% extra for using credit card :-\

Nice red color and air conditioning worked.Radio didn't work, Car was banged up everywhere, automatic nothing including windows, mid size car was actually only for 4 passengers. Car had over 90k miles on it. Paid at least twice the quoted amount after fees and insurance.

SchmeservationIt had 4 wheels.We reserved a 12 passenger van. They didn't have this and had to give us 2 separate vehicles and promised us they would bring us the van in the next 2 days. This didn't happen and we had to make contact again and FINALLY got the van we had reserved. Kayak quoted us $250 and the actual price was $680.

My partner and I have rented cars in several countries across the world and this is hands down the worst rental experience we have ever had. The price is what gets you but be warned! First the rentals are not at the airport, not a big deal but not in bold print either. Second if you buy insurance through one of these secondary sites working with this company they will deny it when you get there they pretty much force you to buy the extremely overpriced insurance also purchasing their insurance seemed person to person a hustle on how much they could get you to pay. And they still put an $800 hold on mine even after buying insurance. If you didn't you other option is a 10k hold on you card to drive without insurance. Third, I reserved a truck months in advance specifically because I new back roads in Mexico are pretty much 4x4. When I got to the rental agency there was not a truck in site and did not have the truck I had reserved, the man at the counter tried to get me to settle for a compact 2door for the same price. This seemed to be common for everyone was renting a car and them not having the rental. So after several minutes of back and fourth demanding nothing less than a 4x4 he finally goes to the back of the store, comes back and says he has a Jeep Wrangler I can have. A couple minutes go by and he comes back trying to tell me the Jeep isn't ready the renter before left the roof off and it was wet inside. I told them that I did not care what the issue was and that I was taking a 4x4 off the lot. So after over an hour and watching several other go through the same issue, I drive away in one of the most busted Jeep Wranglers ever with soaking wet insides, check engine on, tire pressure light on, broken windshield. Oh an almost forgot to mention a tire went flat and the tire kit jack was from a completely different car and wouldn't work. KAYAK need to do a better job of choosing companies that they allow to list on here. AVOID at all cost.

The rental company displayed its car at a very attractive rate, however when you ad the mandatory insurance, you end up paying more then double the initial rate. Moreover, the send us to a fuel station which is known for scamming tourists. Looking to the reviews on the internet, it hasn't been the first time this company did this.

When we went to pick up the car up, the actual name of the car rental from kayak was not at the airport. We had flown into Mexico and we had dollar rental approach us and they agreed upon the price that was quoted from internet. It took over an hour to actually get the car. It was a very slow process. There were not many customers at the time. Upon signing the contract with Dollar, We were not too clear on where to return the car so when we got to the airport to return the car it was very confusing Because we were advised to either return it to Dollar or Hertz. We thought to take it back to Dollar but there was nobody there. We then took it to Hertz and it took 30 minutes for them to look over the car and decide that it was OK for us to go. my husband then got a call from Dollar wondering where the car was so the whole experience was iwas very disorganized and upsetting.

However, when we showed up, we were informed that we needed to purchase car insurance that wasn't part of the original quote, and the price of that insurance more than doubled the total rental cost. Not a great way to start a trip...

Ride back to the airport was efficientComplete bait and switch -- the rental fee online was $169 for 8 days, which seemed great. In the fine print, they said there may be additional required insured. When I got to the counter, I was told that I needed to pay an additional $225 for the cheapest "required" insurance. Then they took a $1,200 deposit. Also, this is off-site and it's a little hard to find the van to the location.

The car was ready when we got there and we didn’t have to wait long.They price ended up doubling when we got there. Instead of paying the rate we were promised on Kayak they had many fees added on like a 20% airport fee that were not expected. The car rental concierge also tried to force me to purchase a $2,500 protection plan, I was arguing that the card on file wouldn’t allow that size of transactions and it wouldn’t work but he insisted. Finally he told me I could get full coverage for the car for 30% of the total price.

I rented the car by internet to pick it up at Cancun airport and I received a call the day before my flight and I explained him that my scheduled flight is for Thursday and I was supposed to pick up the car Friday then he told me to pick up the car at “flamingo plaza” in Cancun instead airport at 12:00 I was there and the person in charge told me that he didn't have my contract don’t even in the system after a few minutes dealing with that he found that my car was placed in somewhere place I paid a taxi round trip to look for it. At the spot that I pick up the car supposed to be a suburban, Tahoe or Yukon we got a journey.

Asked us for a $30k deposit for a used Grand Caravan....LOL. ClownsYa, you read that right, $30k deposit. Not in midst of arguing about something else but as part of a welcome, here is your car and this is the deposit requirement. They also require about $100 per day in local insurance. These guys are clowns. Cars looked old and beat up. Location is 4 to 6 miles away from airport, down some industrial road. Good luck trying to get a taxi to take you elsewhere. No taxis and no phone number to call for a taxi. Also, no one answers at EZ cust service. Getting trapped is an understatement. Stay away from EZ. Go with a reputable company like Enterprise, Avis, National, etc.

Had to do a $10,000 deposit for the car because I had my own insurance. That's just too much and maxed out my credit card. This is not 5 minutes from airport like advertised. Consider 15 minutes transportation from airport to pick up location. Car provided was old. Mosquitoes were eating us alive at pick up location. By the way, pick up location is very sketchy.

Open 24 x 7In Cancún the service is provided by AMERICA car rental. Coordinating the pickup was difficult, we lost about an hour waiting and arranging, the guy on the phone was a little bit rude. After we were brought to the office, we had to wait another hour because they had more customers in the line. They try to force you to take their insurance by putting a deposit of $7000 for a compact car if you want to use your own insurance. I booked a Dodge Avenger and they offered a VM Gol and I was told it was one of the newest cars: it was a lie. The car had scratches everywhere, it was dirty with stains on the roof, broken pieces, seat couldn't be adjusted and had noises while driving.

When I went to pick up the car, the associate at the desk said that my reservation didn't exist, even though I showed him the confirmation email. He then said the only vehicle he had on-site was a stick-shift, and that to retrieve the car I rented online I would have to pay ~$500 and take a shuttle to a different rental car facility instead of the airport. I ended up having to take a bus to reach my destination, and then had to use bikes, taxis, and buses during the course of the trip instead of a vehicle.

Pickup is a shuttle ride away from the terminal, but the drop off is a totally different place and it is hidden behind trees, is not clearly posted, and was very difficult to find. Shuttles are supposed to be every 10 minutes but are not. Every stripe or smudge of dirt on the outside they tried to tell me was damage until I walked up to it and wiped it off showing nothing on the actual paint. Price was double what the booking online said once all the random fees were added.

Bait-and-switch scam. You'll get quoted a low rate online and by the time you pay for all of the hidden fees at the pick-up location, you have to pay over twice what you were expecting. They made me pay a drop off fee, even though I had indicated in my original reservation that it would be dropped off elsewhere. Insurance was mandatory and outrageously priced and the service was dreadful. Note* In general, Mexico requires a particular type of liability insurance, which most of the rental agencies will rip you off on. Investigate this ahead of time, as you can get better rates from a third party.

You will settle on a price than charge you differently and say it’s your bank exchange rate (it’s not) I called my bank and they requested specifically more than we agreed upon. Be ready for the unexpectedAfter driving the kia optima for 15 days, I came to appreciate it's acceleration, great brakes and comfort.Always check with your home insurance before renting in Mexico. The car was cheap to rent at 178.00 but mandatory liability added at $29 a day with $800 on hold on your credit card or $59 per day full coverage with a $200 hold on your card. Ended up paying $733 for entire trip. In Cancun there is no booth at the airport. Ace shares a space with Fox Car Rentals. Called them but they never sent a van. We finally walked our luggage across the street from the airport to find their office. The RAVs we rented were not coming until nightime. They only had one RAV in their inventory so they offered us the new Optimas. Every step was a long wait. The best part was the reliability of the car and returning it was quick. They did return us to the airport. Warning: If you get a traffic ticket in Mexico, police remove the license plate until you pay and show proof. You cannot return the car without its plates. Do not rent a car without plates as many policemen will stop you and demand a bribe. We met other tourists with this problem. We were targeted by police in Campeche because the car was a rental and we were foreigners. They nearly confiscated my brother's license and asked for a bribe of $108 which we paid.

Tried to Scam Me... DO NOT RENT AT ACENothing... they are lying cheats... DO NOT Rent From ACE.Reserved with Months in Advance at a price of U$16 per day for a 2 week rental. Due to plane delays, the shit-show in customs and then NO ACE stand or person in the airport... finally made it to their Office 1:30- 2 hours behind schedule. The slimeball at the counter told me they no longer had my reservation... that they would make a new one and the new price would be U$60 per day with No Insurance Coverage or U$75 per day with full coverage. Decided to go to Hertz.... same day no reservation and full coverage, same car class U$45 per day. Clearly a scam at ACE

Hello, I’m writing to let you know that we had a horrible experience with the rental service in Mexico (Cancún International Airport). We have paid for the car in full, however the day we arrived to get our car, the employees of Keddy were pressuring us to purchase their car insurance for 600 USD (which was not mandatory) in addition to 8500 USD deposit to rent the car we’ve already paid for. This was not listed anywhere in the contract. We were forced to leave the place and go back to the airport to rent another car with another company. I’m writing to let you know that Keddy is scamming people. Everyone else who was with us that day trying to get their rented car, was also pressured into paying much more and supplying a deposit. Many people were furious and just like us, they had to leave and find something else. It was a horrible experience for us and we really urge to remove them from your service. They are nasty scammers. I would also suggest to look into the reviews, because we are sure those were created by robots and not real people. Thank you, Kristina

Total scamThe staff tried to charge me an outrageous amount of money for insurance, even though I told them that my credit card covers total lost. I was very disappointed and end up not renting the car here, so I went back to the airport with my wife, two children and parents and tons of luggage. At the airport we were not allow to go in where all the car rental companies are. It was a very stressful moment. At the end airport security allow me to speak with one company representative of my choosing. I asked to speak with someone from AVIS and end up renting car here at a price a bit more than fire fly but no charge for insurance.

I made the reservation and received a confirmation email. When I showed up to get the car, they told me my reservation was cancelled because it was missing the phone number, which is BS. They had no others cars to rent. I had to scramble to find a car from some company no one ever heard of, subjecting me to god knows what kind of scams.

I selected this rental car company due to the fact that is stated it was at the terminal. It’s not. They still shuttle you over to another location near the airport. All that takes way more time and you have to wait in line with other people that were shuttled before you. Then the high pressure sales- everyone ended up paying double the reservation. They tell you that you have to legally get their insurance and of course it cost more then the rental. When I tried to cancel they told me since I booked through a third party they needed a had a 24 hour cancellation policy so I would loose the money in reserved with.

The gentleman at reception that handled our reservation was very unprofessional and rude. Kayak needs to better explain the extortion plan to bully customers into paying for the insurance coverage. We ended up paying double because of the insane insurance cost. Even though our credit card provides this coverage they made it impossible for us to use, and instead extorted a large fee from us. We ended waiting over 1 hour to receive our vehicle. The experience was the worst we've ever had anywhere in the WORLD! Will never use kayak or Mexrent ever again to rent a vehicle.

I would never do business here again. Beyond it being dirty inside, staff kept changing the prices I would be required to pay. The correct scenario for a budget car rental should be ~$60USD and should require a $700USD hold on your card. Staff tried to sell me an insurance package “if you do not buy [this $150 insurance package], you will have to pay [pointed to $700]”. I refused and she then changed it to $800, and then again she changed it to $10,000. I walked out at this point. Staff spoke exclusively Spanish as a heads up. I speak good Spanish but I am not 100% fluent. I am not considering this as a factor in my lower rating. Just want others to be aware.

FYI pricing online is not accurate. the rate online was for $9 a day but ended up being closer to $75 a day with insurance they make you purchase (can't use your own). We ended up asking to return to the airport and taxi everywhere for our trip using the collectivo for about $1-2 a ride
