Drop off location in Hilton Head Island was closed even though hours said it was open. Staff did not answer the phone when tried to call multiple times Had to call customer service and spend 30 minutes on the phone to change drop off location that was further away and that was ACTUALLY open.
The car didn't feel very clean and smelled like someone earlier had smoked in it. The car was also quite beat up. But I was renting one-way so they likely gave me this car for that reason.
I arrived at the counter to pick up the rental. I did not have a credit card on me. The very rude agent told me that in order to release the rental to me without a credit card, they would have to run a credit check. I showed her the rental policy online that stated a rental could be picked up with a debit card and hold fee. Even though the policy is online, and I showed her word for word, she refused to allow me to retrieve the rental. I left and went to another rental counter , Alamo and successfully rented a vehicle with Alamo. I will never use Avis again!
Excellent customer service at the counter. The interior of the vehicle was not very clean.
The woman that assisted us was doing the job of 12 people. She was thorough and friendly, but she was the only one so we waited an HOUR in line after our flight before we got our car. Once we got the car, it was dirty inside, like someone spilled soda on the console and floor and door. Was not cleaned, just vacuumed. Drop off was perfect!
They didn’t have a car at the location where I wanted it. I kept adjusting the times to be in times it wouldn’t work for me. I just did the times on the app and it continued to change them back to what they were previously. I contacted Avis customer support to try to get resolution to the problem. They never would contact me back. They finally contacted me after I had already gone with a different rental car company. Worst experience ever. Cars were not available as the app suggested. Tried to make adjustments to the times and they were not flexible.
