Pros: Quick and professional service both in picking up and dropping off the car.
Pros: Staff was friendly and efficient.
Cons: I was charged for a scratch that was on the bottom of the front bumper and possibly already on the car prior to my renting it. It was so low that I had to bend over to see it.
Pros: Quick exit
Cons: Took us 3 people to ask where to drop off the car. Not a simple system.
First time renting in Scotland was a dream come true!
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Great car, just what we ordered. Mercedes aclass was nearly brand new! Put 900 miles driving in Scotland and saw lots of sites. Would not hesitate driving again in UK.
Cons: Not a thing.
Ripped off again in Scotland.
Cons: I was ripped off again. The second time this has happened to me in Glasgow, UK. At the end of the rental, I was charged for scratches on the wheel rim which I did not cause. All of the wheels had scrapes and scratches on them. The person checking me in only looked at ONE rim and pointed out several scratches which he said "looked new". They charged me GBP 120.00 for the scratches, and a GBP 55.00 fee for "damage processing". How ridiculous. I am going to contest these charges, because I did not drive up on curbs or otherwise damage this rim. I only parked in the hotel parking lot and at the COSTCO parking lot, both of which had parking slots and no curbs.
Pros: The car itself was great.
Cons: The site says the office is in the terminal. It was not. Just a Hirt walk. But still misleading. The wait to pick up the car was long. It cost way more than the original quote. And the directions for drop off were easily missed. I found it more by luck than by following the roadside directions.
Dodgy sales tactics - BEWARE!
Pros: New car, good condition
Cons: I normally use Europcar for my car rentals but I shopped around prior to my trip to Scotland and booked a Hyundai Tucson online for a 4 days at £157 which looked like a great deal. When I arrived at the car hire in Glasgow airport I was told that the car I hired was not available and I would have to pay an extra £30 per day (£120 in total) for a Volvo XC60 which is of a similar style of car. I was also told the insurance was an extra £80 on top so I was expected to pay an extra £200 (£357 in total) for the 4 day car hire. I wasn't happy about this at all but to soften the deal the sales guy said he would add my partner as a second driver for free (normally £12 per day). Begrudgingly I accepted the costs and decided to proceed. Now for the interesting bit... I was told the costs verbally and he showed them to me on his screen behind the counter but when it came to signing the contract I was shown a tablet where the sales guy quickly scrolled to the terms and conditions for me to read and sign. I was then emailed the contract handed the keys and off on my 4 day trip. Note that I was never given a print out with all of the details of the car hire. When returning the car I was presented with a receipt for £555.60 (almost £200 more than the extra fees I already had to pay!). When I questioned the costs I was told that is what I signed for and I should check the breakdown in the contract I was emailed. On returning home I checked my email to indeed find that somehow I had signed for the £555.60 bill with a breakdown of that I was being charged. There were a bunch of costs for 'Counter Products' but NOWHERE in the bill was the original £30 per day and £80 for insurance. None of the numbers even came close to the figures I was told. I will NEVER use Budget car hire again and have learnt a lesson in making sure I clearly see all of the cost breakdowns (preferably printed out) before signing the dotted line.
Pros: convenient location, friendly staff
Cons: Finding the drop off location was a little confusing since the address on the contract seemed like a partial address. It wasn't too hard to figure out the airport layout in the end.
Pros: The Peugeot 308 handled well and was large enough to be comfortable for three people and luggage. We drove it around for two weeks in England and Scotland. The staff at the Glasgow airport were knowledgeable and friendly, though service was a little slow due to many customers.
Check the contract!
Pros: Nice clean new car. Attendants on lot were good at pickup and dropoff.
Cons: Check in clerk was rude and pushed us through signing contract too fast for our jet lagged state. We resisted the CDW and the fuel deal was contingent on partial tank at return but missed the payment in dollars vs pounds option. Despite the wording on the contract we were not offered choice of payment currency. Credit card exchange rate would have saved $15.
Pros: Customer service person was great - we found the staff to be incredibly pleasant. The car itself was great.
Cons: The rental was MUCH more costly than what was advertised and the bill that came afterwards was very hard to understand. They press you to add insurance and then there are increased taxes and fees that you don't know about. The bill was about 25% more than we were expecting. Pretty frustrating... and expensive.
