Bad experience with my car and the agent lack of communication and knowledge. Was informed that the car was full and did not notice it was half of a tank. I will never again pay so much money and rent with Alamo car rental.

Pros:

I didn’t like anything.., When I got there, they told me that they didn’t recognize the insurance that I paid before I got there. Then, they increased the car prices and wanted to get the insurance from them for a lot of money, then another $500 down in case something happened... My question was how they can make people pay all that money for a liability insurance

Pros:

Nothing, the customer service sucked! My reservations were canceled due to time difference that I was not made aware of when booking plus they did not problem solve were very dismissive and said they had No cars at all.

Cons:

Customer service could have advised about the time difference plus the hold of vehicles. I should have been guided to other rental companies that would have given me a better deal. I had to figure it all out by myself. They guys there suck big time.

Cons:

We have paid but didn’t get a car! They rented out from under us. We were a day late due to a reschedule implemented by American Airlines. When we called to tell them when we would be picking it up, the lady hung up on us twice, we couldn’t get thru several times and finally we got a hold of someone who told us they rented it and had no more cars available. We need this rental credited back to us. Thanks

Nothing!!!!!! They have no cars available, in any class or shape. No notification was made to me about this prior to arrival. We had no vehicle and they offer no alternative. Had to use another company on my own and ended up paying almost double for a rental. Horrible service! On the Dominican Republic all they care is about money! The level of satisfactory customer service is zero!!!!!!

Pros:

I didn’t like anything. We were told when we got to Santo Domingo that they didn’t have a van for us. They had the reservation but no van available to us. We asked when would they have one available they said nothing for the next week. So we ended up paying double the price for the rental. My question is is this a hustle from Kayak and enterprise or just kayak?

I reserved a mid-size sedan but they gave ma sub-compact. ThenEurocar forced me to buy their CDW insurance, an expense that was not clearly stated when I made my online reservation and doubled the stated price, and then they told me I had damaged the car and wanted more money, but finally agreed to no extra charges

There is not adequate communication about insurance requirements when booking the car. I had car insurance through my trip insurance and was allowed to book with that. When I got to the pickup, I was told I had to obtain expensive insurance from the rental company. When sprung upon me at pickup it feels like extortion. I will never book through this company again.

WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE. Our flight was delayed and we arrived a few hours later than the pickup time at the AVIS counter at the airport. They just CANCELLED our reservation and offered us another car for three times the original price that was written in our contract. They had all our flight informations and were supposed to know about potential delays but they just ‘didn't check’… We had to rent another car, last minute, with another company for 50% more money and got a small city car instead of a (much needed for our trip) SUV. Again, WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE!

Arrived at counter to pickup my car, only they ran out of the car I reserved. They offered me a large suv that was 2.5 times more expensive or a subcompact that wouldn’t hold our passengers/luggage. Ended up leaving without a car after 75 minutes at the counter. Cabs ended up costing me much more than what I reserved.

Pros:

The person in charge attitude was awful, he didn't listen or responded to anything I said or asked him, he also wanted to charge for an insurance I declined the whole time. when I did the reservation over Kayak, the rental cost was gonna be under 300 dollars and the man wanted to charge me almost 1000 dollars because an insurance I was needing to have in order to rent the vehicle. he also told I was not forced to rent the vehicle with them.

No office inside the airport. No signage. No shuttle pickup. And that’s just for starters. Wrong car the first try, had to come BACK to the airport the next morning for my reserved car. Long wait time., overall subpar experience.

I was charged for additional insurance when making the reservation and when i picked up my car was told the insurance I had was not acceptable and needed to take out budgets insurance which ended up costing me double what i was expecting to pay. car rental pick up in Santo Domingo is a very long and drawn out procedure it took me over 30 minutes to complete all the paper work and get the required documents and pay so i could go and get the car. the entire pick up process from time I got to the counter until I drove off the lot was over an hour which is just not acceptable. When finally departing with the car I was not informed that on return I must not follow signs to car rental drop off but go towards the terminal where the new budget office is. So on my return I went to the car rental area and once inside I realized I was in the wrong spot and then could not exit as needed a ticket to exit called budget who said they would come get me in about 5 minutes but this did not happen after waiting for about 20 minutes was fortunate that an employee from another rental company gave me an exit ticket so I get out and told me where to go. When I finally got to the budget drop off office and asked why I was not informed not to follow car rental signs was told but you picked the car up from here you should have know. Though by using a well know company would avoid all these issues but realize that was not the case. if renting cars at Las Americas airport Santo Domingo factor in at least 1 hour or more to get your car

Pros:

Had to pay for DR insurance as opposed to the insurance I already paid for. If I used the 3rd party, they were going to put a hold of $1500 on my card. I didn’t want to later on them charge my card for those $1500 so I used their insurance so I paid another $100 plus a hold of $200 then I did when I booked.

The staff were friendly, and the car was in good condition. However my rental was supposed to be $83.98 with the $300 deposit that was blocked on my card to be released on return of the car. The $300 is still out of my account nearly two weeks later. It has cost me $400 for renting a car for a few hours.

Despite making a reservation months in advance, I was told no car was available at the time of my reservation and was directed to wait over 3 hours for a car. The cost of the reservation online was about $500, but I was told at the counter the actual total cost would be about $900. Unacceptable business practices. I gave my business to a different rental car company for the entirety of my stay. I also watched a number of other people make the switch from Hertz to the other rental car company due to the same issues. Hertz lost plenty of business that day due to poor business practices and service.

Put a disclosure that in Dominican Republic there is an additional fee for their insurance. They ONLY use the insurance they provide and not the ones bought online or 3rd party. The insurance costs almost the same price of the total rental. Let’s say you paid 300 for the car rental + 120 for 3rd party insurance (total 420). Once you get there. They say they only take there insurance and they will NOT let their car out without their insurance. I asked how much. They said the total would $598 and I would have to try to cancel the 3rd party insurance. Hertz what a scam! Why can’t you disclose this before renting. I had to tell the guy to cancel the reservation and I went with another car company luckily they had a decent price for an all together package.

The car was nice and comfortable.

Upon our arrival we had to wait about an hour to be seen. The only person working was handling two transactions, a return and a rental. The car was given dirty on the outside so the scratches were hard to see. We didn’t realize the windshield had a crack in it until a few days later. Luckily I took a video of the car so we didn’t end up being liable for the damage. When we took the car back they said not to worry about it because I had the video. Once there, they told us the temp tags were expired, mind you we picked up the car on 5/2 and it expired 5/3. Why would they give a car with temp tags about to expire the following day? Our car rental was for 20 days. They said they kept trying to call us, I asked to what number and they said your US number, why would they call our US number when we’re in a different county. There was no excuse because they had all of our local information. They said someone would be by the following day to take the new temp plates. We waiting all day, no one showed up and no one even bothered to call. We tried calling them all day even to their emergency number and no one responded. How reassuring is that if we did have some sort of vehicle emergency and we couldn’t reach someone on their emergency number. Not until 2 days later after we kept calling that someone actually picked up and said someone would be by within the hour. We asked for a credit for the inconvenience and all they said was that the card had already been charged and that they couldn’t issue a credit. I work for a University and I handle payments, partial refunds can be issued if they wanted to. It was the most annoying experience ever. Wasted time and days waiting around so that we wouldn’t be stopped by the cops for expired temp plates. When we went to return the car the day we were leaving at 7:00am apparently they didn’t open until 8:00am. How do you have a car rental company where you don’t have someone on site 24 hours a day? After waiting a while a person finally showed up. Then he weren’t the one to process the lift of the $3,000 hold it was another person who wouldn’t be there until about an hour later. Considering our flight was at 10:00am we couldn’t wait around.

The car insurance was higher than the cost of the 4 day rental. The Allianz insurance I purchase through you was rejected. “It doesn’t cover us.” The staff was purposely deceitful about the prices by phrasing and purposeful omission. The car was booked for 5 days, but since they were not open until after my returning flight, it was returned a day early. The rental day was not reimbursed, “because I booked in advance and not there in person.” So I was forced to pay an extra day of rental and insurance. There were angry customers around me complaining of a similar experience. I now understand why. Needless to say, I will never rent a vehicle through them again.

NOTHING!! IT WAS A COMPLETE RIP-OFF!!! DO NOT RENT FROM ECONOMY!! DO NOT RENT FROM AMERIRENT, WHICH IS AFFILIATED WITH ECONOMY! Wouldn't rent to me unless I bought liability and collision insurance, for which they wanted $840 on top of the $198 rental fee for the car for 13 days. I refused, and we went through a 2-hour haggling process where I kept refusing...mainly because I had ALREADY purchased the Allianz collision and liability protection online, when i booked the car. Their justification: A small line in the online reservation that said (approximately) "There may be various local charges which must be paid at the point of rental.' From that, they justified charging criminal prices. Ultimately, we couldn't argue with them forever. We finally skipped the collision coverage entirely, and received a 'discounted rate' for liability insurance of 'only' $240. RIP-OFF PRICING TACTICS!! i kept refusing the insurance, and polled several other rental counters...but they were all supporting each other by claiming cars were unavailable or asking outrageous prices. DO NOT RENT FROM ECONOMY!! DO NOT RENT FROM AMERIRENT, WHICH IS AFFILIATED WITH ECONOMY!

Cons:

Do not book with this company. Not only did I not get the car I requested I had to pay extra 570 dollars for a beat up gigantic fan that they held 3,0000 US dollars in credit card deposit. They said they would replace the car the next day but we spent a LOT OF MONEY on gas for the one they didn’t exchange. Do not get ripped off as we (and other people did who were being helped by another attendant.) You can’t get through to customer service either. Don’t let them direct you to this company. Stick with Avis or budget especially if you don’t speak Spanish!

Terrible. We waited over 1.5 hour at the airport before being picked up. The first car we got was in pretty bad shape and 2 hours after getting it the car wouldn’t turn on. They brought us a new car. I specifically asked that we have a 4WD and the guy assured me it was. However on our trip we got stuck half-way up a mountain because the car was in fact not a 4WD so we couldn’t do several activities or restaurants because we couldn’t reach their location.
