Top Tips for Renting an SUV in Milan

  • Bergamo Airport (BGY) often has SUVs available for hire from a range of different companies. After you've exited the Arrivals gate, turn left and follow the signs to the car hire area, where you'll find desks from most companies offering services at the airport. Occasionally, some companies may offer a pick-up service. Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is another good option if you're looking for a Milan SUV hire car. If you arrive at Terminal 2 you can take a shuttle to the car hire area. If you arrive at Terminal 1, follow the signs from the Arrivals Hall to the desks.
  • There are a few unique road rules in Italy you should be aware of when you pick up your Milan SUV hire car. Along with your driving licence and other legal documents, you must have a warning triangle and a reflective jacket in your vehicle at all times. You must use these in the event of a breakdown to signal to other cars and stay safe. Good customer service at the pick up. Everything explained clearly. However charged 50+€ for an extra fee - I believe that I had confirmed I could avoid this fee if I returned the car back with 80% full electricity. I have tried contacting Hertz but no one has gotten back to me. I am happy to discuss what the fee is but disappointed that no one has contacted me.

Hertz is okay. The online booking is a rip-off. I specifically declined the collision protection because I had my own protection but it deliberately added that charged me more, there was no need of it. I asked the agent at kiosk to remove it but he could not do it. There were other similar charges which were not explained and felt like a rip-off. The renting started as cheap and ended quite expensive.

Total scammers. Try to pin us with damages that were previously on the car and the inspection. Make sure you do a full time stamped video of inside out all the wheels and even the underside. None of their insurance covers any incidentals. Double check your credit card if they provide rental insurance (plat amex doesn’t cover Italy) they prey on tourists & do not translate the documents at the end of the stay to steal more money from you. Be careful!

We never got to pickup the car as wrong information was shared online. We booked a 7 seater car only to show up at the airport (pickup location) to find out that they don’t have any 7 seater cars available. Very disappointing after a long journey!

Upon arriving in Milan Italy, we had to change our plans at the last minute, and went to the SIXT counter at the airport. I booked online while standing at the terminal and when we got there, it would’ve been a delay with the car I reserved. Fortunately, they were able to get us a better car at a similar price which was immediately available. The experience and service went above and beyond. Special thanks to Sara Faize who worked at making the process very easy and satisfying.. Sara gave us her contact information and followed up with emails throughout our stay. I would definitely recommend SIXT.

Drivalia offers cars with letter "e" in description. You don't know-it is full electric. To me it is economy. In Italy the infrastructure for electric cars is poor. Also,Drivalia uses Chinese MG small suv hybrid. This is really weird hybrid you don't want to drive. Eats lot of gas and you have to change this hybrid like full electric car. Milano int. Airport does not have good signs to get to rent garage to drop your car.

I honestly don't know how to review this company. The pick up and drop off were fine, quick, and easy. My charges were quickly returned. And the value was fine. But the maintenance team is where I have issues. We picked up the vehicle and after about 30 minutes I started hearing noises coming from what sounded like a flat back left tire. I pulled over, checked it, and all seemed fine. After driving on it for another day, I was still concerned and pulled over again to see if I could figure out what the sound was. Low and behold, there were two bolts missing from the wheel, and another two very loose. I moved one over from the back right tire and tightened them all. Suffice it to say, we were very close to losing one of the tires which could have caused a severe accident, especially in the winding roads near Lake Como. When we returned, the agent who took the vehicle was horrified and very apologetic. Please make sure to check all of the wheels before taking off!
