Pick up was interesting, no one at the counter and a 35 min wait for the shuttle for pick. That was the only mediocre part of the whole experience. Everyone was nice and friendly and counter help and drop off went with ease.

Rental counters at MSP are quite a distance from the terminal. Not the rental agencies fault it’s the airport. Once arriving at the rental counter the experience was very smooth. Checked in, shuttle to the off-site location met at the door by an agent who performs the car walk around with you and you’re away. Return was simple, pull into the designated area. Met by an agent. A walk around, check of the mileage even though it’s unlimited, asked if I needed a ride to the airport. Walk the short distance to the shuttle, board and taken to the drop off location at the airport. Off-site at MSP actually seems better than the onsite. Upon your return to the airport you cut the distance to the terminal by about half. Rather nice if you’re limited on time getting checked in and going through security.

I arrived at MSP late, due to a delayed flight. When I got to the Thrifty counter, it was closed, with a sign directing me to the Hertz Gold booth on another floor. After slogging to the Hertz Gold booth, I found a long line being serviced by one employee, who repeatedly left to...well, I'm actually not sure what he was doing. But to be generous, he may have been going to deal with issues in the parking lot. (Just before I reached the counter, a second employee did finally arrive in the booth.) From the time I arrived at the booth to the moment I pulled out of the parking garage watt over one hour. The booth was just grossly understaffed to provide efficient service. I blame horrible management. Of course it was a Hertz booth, not a Thrifty booth. But if Thrifty is going to rely on Hertz to provide services to Thrifty's customers, Thrifty will have to accept responsibility for Hertz's awful service.

Most of the process was really good - easy pick up, pleasant staff, clean car, etc. BUT... the child car seats are totally mediocre and overpriced. Also, the text messages for 'check in', a few days/week ahead lead a person to think it's required (it's not). And thru that check in prompt, the company wants to get all your personal info AND your picture sent to them. Thrifty has forgotten about personal image and data privacy concerns and headed toward the 'big brother' way. Very disappointed by this aspect. Also very disappointed by the call center time. It's typical oversees information - totally unhelpful and language impaired. They basically repeat what can be found thru the web site and not able to offer more information. Blaagch!

I was promised a larger SUV and instead when I arrived since I wasn’t returning the vehicle to MSP (essentially ‘driving away’) I was informed that it was a very slim selection of vehicles that were eligible for rent. Hence I was given a Chevy Trax 😐

I had rented a jeep, and was told upon pickup that there was no guarantee it was all wheel drive, so I had to upgrade to a much more expensive car because the weather was really bad. My rental went from $499.00 to $1020.00! This should be noted on your site when booking. The agent was very good and just doing her job, so no complaints on the customer service!!

Car was okay, clean. pickup and drop-off was fine. BUT WATCH OUT FOR ADDITIONAL CHARGES! Upon arrival, they offered an upgrade for $30 more per day which i accepted. I booked for $533 for my rental, I was expecting to pay $653 with the upgrade, but they charged me almost $1000.00 They said I would get my invoice upon delivery of the vehicle, when I did deliver it, they then said I would get my invoice via email. then I noticed the charge. I immediately called them to dispute the transaction, they said it was because I said my wife "might" drive the vehicle so they added more insurance for her. - they did not declare that to me. (I ended up driving the whole time anyway) They said they would get back to me in 24-48 hours with my dispute/complaint. that didn't happen either. Now I am having to dispute the charge with my bank, and I still have not received an invoice from them. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THESE GUYS. GET IT IN WRITING, GET A COPY BEFORE YOU AGREE TO ANYTHING.

No one answers the phones at Budget. The same voice menu prompts all take you to lost and found. Upon finally getting someone to confirm that Budget staff will be at the airport despite a late arriving flight, security told us they left 15 mins before I walked in (i.e. after the flight had actually landed). Really frustrated with Budget and will not rent from them again.

Employees arguing with each other. No cars were ready. 45min to check in with 4 people in line. First car smelled like human urine. 20min scramble to find another car. Staff does not really seem to want to help or interact with customers. Staff needed to be directed to check fuel on checkin. This location in particular is well known for charging refueling on full cars.

Initial Hertz rep didn't know what he was doing. Delayed our trip by 2 to 3 hours. Kayak, you have terrible customer service. There is no way to contact anyone. Ease of pick up and drop off. Please fill the tank with fuel. Not sure why I can't charge the rental company $10/ gallon when the tank isn't full but you an hit me if it's not full. It's not easy to return a vehicle the same when it's not full.

Extremely disappointing. Not very clear about picking up since there were three different areas at the airport to choose from. The agent at the first counter was rude and not helpful, and the other counter had a long line. It added a lot of additional time to go to a different area of the airport where the car actually was. The car pick up took about an additional hour. It was extremely frustrating to get ridiculous charges on the backend. The car was paid for, but additional fees were added on. Tax, auto facility charge, concession fee recovery etc. added it up to an additional $120! To me, this is padding. These charges should have been clear upfront. It was really infuriating. Definitely a deceptive practice to lure the consumer into thinking the fee they paid was the final price.

This was in the area where the vehicles were at the airport. The key fob needed a new battery. I was told to go get one and we will be reimbursed or I could pick a different vehicle. So I went to the counter to ask a question and because I wasn't a Gold Member, they turned around and walked away. So I got into the same vehicle and drove out. On our trip we had to find a store to replace the battery. Not a fan at all. Bringing the vehicle back, I couldn't get my money back, I had to get it back thru a voucher when we rent next time. Not a fan!!!!

Overall Experience was great. I also called their customer care to confirm a few things and it was a pleasant experience with all the information that I needed provided. Check out was quick and easy. Return was quick and easy as well. The only thing was one of the cabin boxes was not cleared and had some candy and plastic water bottles from previous renters. Everything else was great.

It took over an hour to get a vehicle and it was a large truck with mpg half what I paid for since I booked a compact vehicle. They ran out of vehicles despite knowing these vehicles were paid for and reserved. The people that left when I arrived had waited 1.5 hours. Others were still having major delays later in the day. Exiting with the vehicle both the person in front of me and myself could not leave because we were not provided with the information needed for the automated and only toll lane. We caused a line that was only resolved by staff manually operating the booth.

Cons:

I got a letter 3 weeks after the return that claimed I smoked in the car and there was excessive smoke smell. I did not smoke, never have smoked in my life. They are charging me $450 and I have petitioned their customer service multiple times. They keep escalating it to another bureaucratic level of the business to hand off the problem to the next customer service representative. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and I will be filing a consumer fraud report to the Attorney General's Office of Illinois. This company has absolutely committed fraud and is trying to find a way to book extra revenue. I will never do business with the Avis Budget group (the company that owns Payless) ever again.

I reserved a mid size pickup for almost $200 a day and was given a ‘managers choice’ vehicle. So for $200 a day I drove the smallest car they had- a Chevy Spark. It was a complete ripoff.

Cons:

I paid for a large SUV ahead of time and when I arrived to pick up my car, I was told there were none in stock and I would have to pay to “upgrade” to a minivan. This doubled the price of my rental. It was infuriating to pay for a reservation only to be told it wasn’t available and I would have to pay more.

Very nice person at desk. The actual car pickup was understaffed. We stood and waited ten minutes before even seeing a person. When that person spotted us, he was very helpful and courteous.

I waited forever and was still not rented a car because I didn't have a credit card on me. The guys at the desk were friendly enough but useless. Overall bad experience that will lead me away from enterprise in the future.

The pickup process was very slow - I probably waited 45 minutes in line but that line was only 3-4 people deep! This was at 8 AM, so not an off-hours problem. And then when I went to find my car, there was no one at the booth who could help me. I wandered around the lot until someone from National helped me. The car I got was not what I asked for - a full size vehicle versus smaller, and I thought it would be a Toyota Corolla, but it was a Nissan. I guess there was a hidden "or similar" descriptor that I missed. The rest of my experience was good - the car did well through a snowstorm, which was huge. But the pickup experience is not what I remember from Enterprise, and frankly, that's why I picked Enterprise!

I had the front desk women try and fight me because I asked for an e receipt!! I recorded her and her manager was just as worst!! I’ve asked for a regional manager to call me!! This is ridiculous and uncalled for!!! Avis is the worst!!!

Cons:

Need to be able to contact Avis MSP directly for Lost and Found. Need option for reporting items left at Avis office. Young son forgot blue backpack with tablet computer, gift books, and art supplies. It has not yet been found. Lost and Found ID 12359969.

Pros:

Yes, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I think that the wait in line was longer than it needed to be. But overall the experience was pleasant given that I wasn't in a hurry.

Cons:

I think that the pricing should be more upfront and transparent. And after all of the fees nearly $400 was a little steep for only two days with the car. Finally, the pick up area was a valet and it wasn't well marked where I should wait. Given that the temperature was in the teens, that was an important point.
