Top Tips for Renting a Van in Quito

  • Quito van rentals can be cost-effective, especially when compared to renting multiple smaller vehicles to accommodate a large group. It can also save you money on fuel costs since you're traveling together. Vans offer a spacious interior with multiple seating arrangements. Passengers can enjoy a relaxed and comfortable ride, even on longer journeys. Vans typically have a generous cargo area, making it easy to transport luggage, sports equipment, or other bulky items. This is particularly advantageous for travelers with lots of baggage or gear.
  • Visitors to this part of the world often find that the Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) is an easy place to pick up Quito van rentals. There are about six different rental car companies operating at this airport, most of which are major rental brands most travelers are familiar with. You will find all of his rental car companies have customer service desks in the public arrivals hall of the passenger terminal. Once you have your keys and your contract, there is no need to ride on the shuttle bus to pick up your car, since the vehicles sit right outside the terminal building.
  • Always carry your valid driver's license and passport with you while driving Quito van rentals. Local authorities may request identification, and you'll need them if you encounter any issues. Ecuador follows right-hand driving, and speed limits are typically posted in kilometers per hour (km/h). Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers in the vehicle. Ensure that everyone is buckled up, and check that child safety seats are correctly installed if you're traveling with young children. Exercise caution when driving at night, especially in poorly lit areas. Road conditions may be less predictable in some parts of the city.
  • Quito experiences heavy traffic during morning and evening rush hours. Morning rush hours typically occur from 7 to 9 am, and evening rush hours are from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. During these times, major roads and highways, including Avenida 10 de Agosto and Avenida Naciones Unidas, can be congested. The historic center of Quito, known as the “Centro Histórico,” features narrow streets, limited parking, and a high volume of pedestrians. Driving in this area can be challenging due to the narrow roadways and restricted access to certain parts of the city.
  • 25% of our users found a van rental in Quito for ₪374 or less
  • Book your van rental in Quito at least 3 days before your trip in order to get a below-average price
  • March is typically the cheapest month to rent a van in Quito, with prices around ₪84 per day. The most expensive month is August, with average prices of ₪110 per day.

Staff was very friendly and efficient.

When I picked a category it showed Ford Edge or equivalent. I got Nissan Kicks, which is definitely not comparable. The car was very sluggish on the hilly highways in Ecuador where I vacationed. The price was the same, though.

Pros:

The car was nice and exactly as we had reserved. Great customer service. Easy to get to from the airport by shuttle.

Cons:

Required insurance and would not accept the prepaid insurance we bought through Kayak. You also only get 100KM per day, so extra charges can add up.

Pros:

I liked two things about Avis 1) Originally I booked car via Rentalcars.com. They had confirmed my booking and 1 day before pick up they cancelled it without even sending me email or letting me know! I chat with their support and they said: Sorry, we cannot help you. WTF?! So I had to arrange everything after arrival - at Avis counter there was very nice guy with fluent English that helped us a lot finding a good deal that would be similar to original booking. Thanks again Mr. Francisco P.! Great help! 2) Our car got some engine issue by the end of our trip in the middle of the national park. Avis call center was helpful and they brought us new (much bigger car) in several ours with no question or extra charge. So: Avis rulez - I will use it again next time Rentalcars.com sucks - never more

Cons:

Avis does not honor rentals done through Kayak. Avis don't recognize the car size that Kayak gave me or the insurance I signed up for through Kayak. I ended up spending almost 3 times the amount that quoted through Kayak. I will never do business with neither Avis nor Kayak again. The burrito with a competitive market place is that I choices. I will do what I can to spread the word so other people don't need to experience the same

Pros:

From the begging of the rental, it was a disaster. Two hours into the trip the AC went out in he car. I called their support number only to be made to wait 2 hours so they could send a guy without tools to put his hand infront of the vent and confirm that the AC did not work. Then to be told they dis not have another car to give me. When I finally arrived at Guayaquil (where they had another car for me 240 miles away) the people at the counter had left more than 10 minutes early and forced me to lose an extra day. But the best part was the way Ivan Quillupangi (fleet manager), tried blaming me for scratches on a car that were marked on the paperwork pre-rental and for three tire blow outs due to low air pressure (that was also marked on the paperwork). Not only that but questioning why I changed out the tires intead of calling, even after I advised that the tires blew in an area with no reception at 11:00pm on the side of a mountain. I liked the way that when I told them the brakes in the car were pulsating the response from them was that it was impossible because they had just changed them; however, they left the old brake rotors that were warped and caused the pulsating and lack of stopping power. I liked that once I got back to their Guayaquil office and showed them all this they said that although they can see what I am telling them, the guy on the phone 250 miles away that can't see says different that the proof of pictures, paperwork and items present. When I claimed the scratches were on the paperwork, they said that it was a "misprint" when I showed them the warpage on he brake rotors they pretended not to understand telling me the brakes had been changed. when speak My if the tires they said well you could have hit something and when I asked them to show me what exactly makes them say that or to show me on the tire or rim any impact point, they simply shrugged and said that that is what the guy from Quito (who'd never seen me or the car) said. Last but not least they expected me to provide good customer service by taking the car to and from the airport for inspections. Lastly when I got to the airport they did not have a comparable vehicle for me (7 passenger SUV) and merely had a compact, and expected me to provide a new deposit (after having given $2,400.00 on the current car). In short I was left at the airport stranded without a car. To add insult to injury Hertz ecuador has nothing to do with Hertz US. In all Inlost 4 days out of my trip dealing with their problems and spent an additional 3 days without a car, was forced to buy flights from Guayaquil to Quito and cancel parts of my trip.

Only complaint is customer service and communication. Things were not clear since pick up, when they told us we could pick up at the airport and gave us a total cost, then last minute saying that there was an extra fee for picking up at airport. We decided to pick up at the place in ave shyris and had to wait over 30 minutes for the car to arrive. At drop off the over charge us for not keeping the toll receipts with us when they never asked us to do so. I do not recommend Europcar. They are not clear with their fees and communication is poor.

nothing!!! This place is a scam, they give you a broken beat up car then try to make you pay for all the damage that was already there!

Cons:

not scam people and be honest about the fact that they rent cars that are already pretty well damaged, it's literally impossible to capture every single bit of the damage that already existed on the car, so of course they can point to something that wasn't specifically photographed. Especially when they completely neglected to take photos of the ENTIRE front of the car which had by far the most damage prior to me renting it. WOW what a dishonest company!
