We were unable to change the pick up location from Peoria to Chicago
We were stranded in Chicago at night.
We had to get another car from Chicago to Peoria and then the next day go get our Kayak rental in Peoria.
We paid for a day we did not use.
The other problem was booking through Kayak there was no opportunity to cancel.
We will never book another car through Kayak.

Cons: When I picked up car windows were very spotty side view mirrors spotty hard to see out of side windows

Pros: Drop-off was easy. The employee was cordial and efficient.
Cons: Despite my specifically asking ahead of time after a previous bad experience, I was given a car that smelled like stale cigarette smoke. I was offered a smaller car at no reduction to remedy the problem, but did not bother to check it out to see whether it, like the two other cars I'd been in from this location, also smelled of smoke.
Pros: Speed of service, Clean vehicle, simple return drop off.
Cons: On May 5, 2017, I pre-paid $285.15 for this rental car. When I picked it up on June 29, 2017, I give the clerk (Raquel) my pre-paid reservation receipt and she asked for a credit card (and said it was just for security deposit). When I returned the car as scheduled on July 12, 2017, the clerk asked if I wanted a receipt. It was then that I realized the rental agreement was put on a previous made (and supposed to be canceled) reservation and I was charged $401.46. THIS (SAME CAR) WAS PRE-PAID!! When I asked the clerk to remove the charge, she said that she could not. I called the billing department ... PLEASE REMOVE THE $401.46 ASAP!! I have been a Hertz Gold customer for over 30 years and I'm now very dissatisfied!
Poor handling of customer concerns

Cons: I was given a tiny car for "compact" level and when I asked if they had any other one - Kara the customer service rep started lecturing me that "next time you should book the kind of car you actually want to drive!". Also; the car did not have full tank of gas even though I was charged for a full tank when I picked up. When I called to simply let them know that their records on the car were wrong- she kept arguing with me about how much gas should have been used in 10 minute span that I had the car and offered me "$2 dollar credit" which I declined. Hidden "airport" fees that were not communicated. I ended up $16 extra in taxes and fees, making the savings on the rental obsolete! Nowhere were these explained until they charged my credit card! I would not recommend this location or Herz in general, they only care about the money!
Pros: Quick pick up and drop off, nice vehicle!
Cons: No XM in the car.
