Use National or Enterprise instead. I got in the car in Palo Alto and seat was cranked back super far. Whichever Hertz employee parked must have been huge, and did not bother to reset the seat for the renter. It was hard to readjust the seat to sit properly and see out of the mirrors, thus driving safely off the lot felt difficult. Later, we noticed what seemed like syrup on the gear shift. My kids found a whole strip of bacon under the drivers seat and a plastic fork wedged in between the seat buckles in the backseat. Employee at pick up hands off keys but doesn’t tell you to come back if anything doesn’t meet expectations; employee at drop off just takes the keys and doesn’t ask how satisfied you were. You get a survey about customer satisfaction, which produces an automated “we’re reviewing it.” But nothing after that.Reviewed 2025 Jul 05

Front desk unhelpful. We rented a Tesla. Asked where & how to charge it. They said "no idea." We spent hours in the boonies trying to figure it out. Front desk NEVER answered the phone Returned the car to an incredibly surly attendant who yelled at us "move the f-ing car over here!" Quite an experience at 8am.Reviewed 2025 Jul 05

My husband was hospitalized with pneumonia immediately before our trip to Hawaii; as a result, he was unable to travel. I had a letter from his doctor indicating that he could not make the trip. When I arrived at Hertz to pick up the car, I was told that Hertz would not honor the rental agreement because my husband was not there in person. After 30 minutes of consultation with a manager (while another adult and three small children waited at 11:30 PM), I was finally granted a 24-hour rental at the original daily rate with immediate payment. I was told to go to our hotel, cancel the original rental with Hertz, and then make a new rental reservation. I did some research and discovered that I could get a better rate from another rental agency with significantly less hassle. Hertz made this such a difficult issue, I doubt we will use Hertz again.Reviewed 2025 Jul 04

I had booked a minivan paid in advance a month ahead because I knew we would have a lot of luggage. When I got there, they didn't have one but said we could get a Palisaide instead but it wasn't big enough for the luggage. They only had a expedition max that would work for us but it cost me 750$ additional. I was disappointed since I had booked and paid in advance so I would be sure to have the minivan. He should have just said he needed a deposit instead of saying Hertz required $350. Is that for money laundering? We had a very hard time trying to understand what he was saying in English and I think he had a hard time understanding English. He didn't explain anything about the vehicle or how to operate it. He just handed us the Keys and told us it is outside on the lot which is a 2 - 5 minute walk. We will never rent from Hertz again.Reviewed 2025 Jul 01
