We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The breakfast was great as was the breakfast staff. The room was just ok. We prefer to have a balcony and were not afforded the opportunity to switch rooms. The hotel was very busy due to the local event. The pool area was accommodating and clean. Our kids enjoyed the arcade! Overall the stay was good.

Cons: We stayed there for a week and we didn't like: - Noisy, music everywhere, very loud, not smooth nor relaxing - noisy guests that staff did not stop, in my case, people came to the lounge with their own speakers - noisy rooms, better get out early, before 9 am or housekeepers will let you know you are lazy - fees for everything, it's ok to pay for additionals, but resort fee is not worth it (and it's a hidden cost), valet excessive, fees for receiving packages is expensive. I would recommend to bundle better tariffs and consider flat fees or caped fees for those who stay several days. After the second day, we ended trying to avoid every reason to stay in the hotel during the day. In particular, we avoided the pool, only one time tried to spend the morning there but could not resist the music of the hotel and the personal music of some guests.

Pros: For some reason they didn't tell us, they upgraded our regular room to a suite and the only room in the hotel with a balcony. Plenty of room for the 3 people we had and overall a clean place, with some minor work needed in areas.
Cons: The balcony had an outside shower that my one friend accidentally broke by just pulling the chain to turn it on, causing it to dump water out nonstop with no easily accessible or noticeable turn off valve. We let the front desk know and it took them a little bit of time to have someone from maintenance take a look at it. Once he was up, even he was unsure of how to turn it off, attempting to turn several different knobs and valves throughout the room. Eventually, he was able to get the large flow of water down to a drizzle, but at the cost of the water to our room. When we needed to use the bathroom for the toilet, sink, or shower, we had to play with the nozzles ourselves to try and figure out how to turn the water back on to our bathroom while also turning up the volume of water outside too. It's a bit concerning as when we told the front desk they said it "happens all the time" so I am hoping that not only will they still return my security deposit on the room, but will also try and find a better resolution to what sounds to be a recurring problem.

Pros: The proximity to the beach was fantastic as was the closeness to shopping/restaurants and Espanola Way. The decor was fun and really captured the feel of the surrounding art deco neighborhood. The staff were also very friendly, warm and welcoming to the hotel.
Cons: This was definitely not a 4 star hotel. The building and furniture were old looking and outdated and needed some serious TLC. Looks like they haven't put much work into renovations in quite some time. The sink was cracked, the tile needed a cleaning, there was hair on the bathroom floor, it just didn't feel clean and new. The bed was super creaky and the carpet stained. Definitely not what I would have expected from a hotel with this rating. Maybe 3 stars but definitely not 4 and I could have gotten something much nicer for the same price.

Pros: My stay at Thompson was very satisfactory. Everybody smiled and greeted us everywhere without making us uncomfortable or being too friendly. It was a quiet and relaxing stay that I very much anticipated, and I was glad that I chose Thompson for my first visit to Miami Beach!

It was on the side of the building facing west so our main view was the hotel rooms on the other side. There was just a sliver of ocean view. If I were to go again I would insist on a room facing East and much higher up. Noise: Music from the restaurant was loud and started at 10:00 p.m. and continued until 4:30 in the morning. Extra Charges: There was a $150 charge extra per night which will be allegedly refunded. the parking was $40 per night. The taxes are a killer.So for two nights at a quoted rate of $260 per night, instead of being $520 turned out to be $729.

Pros: The hotel is in a great location! It’s a good value for the money and nice to have it be quieter/smaller than the other south beach hotel options. Definitely a far more relaxing stay that some of my other trips down to Miami.
Cons: The staff was super warm, welcoming, and kind. The hotel recently opened and you could tell so a bit by the organization. My lunch took an hour and a half to come one day after having the wrong order delivered twice. My room wasn’t made up another day after requesting it to be cleaned several hours earlier. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and these seem to just hiccups of a new opening.

Pros: This hotel is so cute! The bathrooms are lovely and large and rooms have a mini bar/fridge which is always a plus. Plenty of full length mirrors.
Cons: THE only downside of This hotel is that the rooms have a smell of mold/ mildew. You can tell the hotel is an old building that got a facelift and somewhere they left off the fix mold part. I opened windows daily to air it out so it was Manageable. Just definitely be aware of this.

Non working thermostat wouldn’t hold temperature automatically and has caused us to manually turn AC on or off. So we were either cold or hot. Staff played a game of “we don’t understand” with us instead of helping. For three days nothing was done about it. At checkout they gave us $50 gift card to their crappy restaurant even though I explained that we were leaving to the airport. That pretty much sums up their wish to help. Do Not Stay Here.

Cons: The hotel and staff were terrible. The front desk were SO RUDE, I felt uncomfortable going to speak to them. The hotel looks nothing like it’s pictures. Sheets and towels were always dirty with hair found in them. It was dirty, old, air circulation in rooms were terrible and I got sick from mould. Additionally you can hear everything, better buy earplugs. Tanning decks have no maintenance staff and is never cleaned.

I liked it when I left the unapologetic staff who just shrugged when I wonder why my car hadn't arrived after I had properly followed their recommendation that I call 25 minutes early to get my car...it took 50. IT TOOK 50 TO ARRIVE AND I ALMOST MISSED MY MEETING. Pros: My wife and I were able to celebrate our anniversary in warm sunny Miami. I booked the hotel on Kayak.com due to the good reviews and value. We were not disappointed. The room was very clean and decorated so well. The accommodations were outstanding. The Tavern restaurant was amazing, we ate there twice. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I'd reccomend this place to anyone wanting a great experience with close proximity to the beach.

The staff is friendly, the rooms are gorgeous, and the beach access is so convenient. We booked through Kayak which saved us some money - it was such a great value. I highly recommend this hotel for couples, friends, and families. One thing to take note of... the hotel shuttle came to the airport to pick us up on the hour. This is an automatic thing - they come every hour on the hour. However, when you're using the shuttle to come back to airport you MUST schedule first with the front desk. We found out the hard way that it wasn't an automatic pick up and had to jump in a cab very quickly.

Service was a little slow, often room service wouldn't get to our room until right before dinner, but service in South Beach is slow everywhere. Really the biggest issue was the noise. Next door there is what looks from the outside to be a club and doesn't seem that loud, but the bass and music from it carries into the building and is really really really loud. I sleep like a rock and couldn't get to bed until last call two of our four nights. Maybe it's just a South Beach thing and is unavoidable, but this hotel is alot of money to not be able to sleep soundly through the night. You really can't beat the location though, and the roof pool was also great.

We left about 20 minutes later for a dinner reservation.When we came back later that evening it was late nothing had changed. we were to tied to do anything so we tried to go to bed. Sleep did not come for either of us easily and we were up a good part of the night. The next day I complained and the girl offered us a $50.00 credit and would move us down from the top floor in the same proximity. the noise was probably from the motors on the roof. Looking out after agreeing I saw all the fans from the building next door so I called back and said it was not acceptable. Pros: The lobby and pool area are great. Friendly staff. I stayed in a women's quad and a woman's 8 bunk dorm. Both very clean and orderly. Could use some minor upgrades for the seating. Since it's so humid in Florida I would suggest mildew,resistant chairs. The ones they have now trap moisture and smell a little. This hostel is located directly across the street from the bus stop, beach and boardwalk which is an easy bike ride or walk down famous Collins Ave (hotel district). The hostel rents bikes - the first 2 hours are FREE). The free daily breakfast is excellent. Fresh fruit, pastries, assortment teas, cereal and oatmeal. More than enough to fill your belly and take some for the road. There is a restaurant on site but I didn't eat there. If your budget is tight and you need a decent friendly hostel near to everything (especially if you are on foot), stay here.

Pros: I am a former Miami citizen and so I am picky and savvy. The Royal Palm is simply beautiful. The furniture, flooring, light fixtures, landscaping, are well designed and maintained. My room was clean, chic, had an amazing view. Bathroom was modern and lovely. Bed and sheets were comfortable. Your stay includes beach chairs and towels and service (cocktails and food) at your chair. I felt like a queen and was treated exceptionally well by the staff at the beach. I accidentally left my grandmother's ring in my room after checkout and the bellhop mobilized the housekeeping staff to look for and find it. I am so grateful! And whoever is running this place is doing all the important things right. I am a frequent traveler and will DEFINITELY be returning to the Royal Palm Resort. Oh, and you can't beat the location...

Returning a few years after to this chaos and nightmare of a hotel, I was extremely shocked and disappointed! But the experience this time has horrified us all and we will most like not be booking the royal palm again! The hotel manager was very helpful to the point he did as much as he could to help us but he was not at fault to be blamed for the way this hotel has been “ run down” “ not taken care of” “ lack of control guest noise”. Toilet seats are cracked and bubbled, shower head looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in years, mirrors have rust/marks on them which makes it look like an old hotel room, sticky balcony floor I had to clean myself, room smelling like weed marijuana upon entering, random people peeing outside the front door of the hotel. This vacation at the palm has been horrible and with all these problems we will not be returning.

Prior to the stay, a few days before arrival, I had tried calling the hotel front desk just to confirm the reservation and make sure everything was set and wasn't able to get someone to answer. The phone rang out and went to a weird voicemail that certainly wasn't representative of a hotel in this price range.. I went online to go to their site to find out that the James group had sold this hotel the previous Monday to Starwood Hotels. I couldn't find the new site since Google was still pulling James Royal Palm, and that it was still in business. Long story short, I called a Starwoods reservation line and they were able to confirm the reservation, and I told them about the advertised phone number and she said she would reach out to a team to fix that issue. Obviously just a transitional thing, but, for people staying it was a bit concerning. Other than that the only thing that keeps this hotel from 5 stars right now, and perhaps Starwood will fix that, is that when you call the front desk you don't get an answer. Not only with the previously mentioned issue, but calling from inside the room no one would pick up after 10+ rings. 5 star hotels to me would certainly answer the front desk call from people staying.

The South Beach hotels were generally booked for New Years Eve, so we were happy to have a confirmed reservation. When we arrived at the hotel in New Years Eve, we were told by the front desk staff member that it reservation didn't exist. We looked up or confirmation and confirmed that we had prepaid via credit card. The hotel staff did they could not honor our reservation as they had no rooms available and they take no responsibility for mistakes made by third party booking agencies. They recommended we try elsewhere, so my wife called other hotels and I ran around trying to find a room. We called Getaroom three times and we put in endless hold each time as they struggled with the same problem. They finally found the glitch which turned out to be a misspelling of our last name as "Wppd" instead of "Wood." No apology from the hotel or Getaroom for two hours of frantic searching for another hotel. The hotel itself was nice but lacking in staffing and amenities. Cleanliness was OK. The pool and hot tub were overrun by kids and postadolecents. Location was amazing and we were able to walk to New Years Eve celebrations in South Beach.

Pros: We got a great rate which made a stay here possible. the property was very pretty and well kept but they seemed chronically understaffed. Pool/beach baskets were a nice treat and the location is ideal. You get a welcome drink, a pair of loungers and wifi with your resort fee.

Do not like the fact that Hyde Beach club does not serve the regular cocktail menu at night. the cocktails rocked, and i really didn't want to pay $15 at night for a very watered down vodka soda when the awesome cocktails are $18 during the day.

Called the valet 30 minutes before I went downstairs to have my car ready and waited 25 minutes more do some dumb excuses from the valet guy, then when I claimed he started to argue with me. My fiance spent in total $500 for one night and it was a HORRIBLE experience. Never coming back.

The buffet was okay; the hot food was mediocre but there was a good selection of food (oatmeal, cereals, yogurt, fruit, lunch meats, breads/bagels, eggs, sausage, french toast, pancakes, bacon etc.) It was a little pricey also. Ordering off the menu the next day was more reasonably priced and the food was fantastic.

No microwave in the hotel at all. I didn't care for the $100/per night deposit but they refund it fairly quickly after your stay if nothing is wrong with your room. The resort fees are deducted the last day of your stay. The women's lobby bathroom always smelled. The elevators were slow. One time getting on I was almost stuck in one had it not been for someone prying the doors open.

The decor is outdated. The staff at the front desk was not friendly at all. Most of all, the rooms in the main tower are NOT what you will expect them in a resort. We stayed in a deluxe king room and it was tiny! The view was terrible! If you're going to stay here you have to stay in the ocean view tower and don't be afraid to pay for the best rooms available: only then will your stay be worth your buck.

This hotel is more for the going out crowd or solo traveller or under 40's couples. Some posters griped about the reception being a different building, really???? It's all of 15 steps door to door. I've had longer walks in some airport hotels to the elevator. Drive up and down south beach and price other places then come here, it's the best deal in south beach collins hands down.

Pros: The facilitiy was good, although bedroom was too dark, beds good comfortable. Location Amazing, customer service intermediate. Some employees were tough. The downstairs pool was great, but needs a bar. Overall good

Pros: The hotel was in a good location and included beach chairs with the rooms.
Cons: There was loud music playing at the restaurant next door 24 hours a day, the staff was disorganized and assigned us a room that already had people staying in it. The rooms keys NEVER worked, we had to get new keys at least 7 times during our stay. The rooms were tiny and the ac didn't seem to work. There wasn't a bathroom fan so it got muggy in the room after every shower. There is no easy way to get ice at all. It was just very disorganized and inconvenient.

Pros: The bell men and bar tenders were great for the most part. Only had on crabby out front guy.. The e-cart guys were wonderful and that was so nice...I would stay again just because of them! The drinks were outrageously priced! Our coffee was never replaced in the room and the fact it was only instant coffee and no complementary coffee in the lobby was sad...also no breakfast and not really a cheap place to get some nearby...that was not good

Pros: Almost everything! Pretty high resort fee, but this includes a happy hour from 7-8 where ALL drinks are free. And they don't mess around with the orders. Orders during happy hour are fulfilled quickly. Also there's a free airport shuttle, which takes kind of long (45 mins) so plan ahead! Pool looks okay, but we didn't use it. Just minutes away from the actual beach. Three nice buildings, clean rooms - just a little bit of smell probably due to the high humidity. AC had a control panel, but didn't change anything. Staff was really friendly.
Cons: Resort fee was charged, even though our reservation already had them included. I sent an email about this, we'll see..

Pros: Amazing. I loved the happy hour and the rooftop pool with the dj. The beds were amazing and comfortable. I did wake up with a couple bug bites on my leg which concerned me but that could have been anything. Also the bamboo area was nice :)

Pros: I usually enjoy this hotel an any other from their group, but i will not use the South Beach group anymore.
Cons: My car was damaged while under the care of their valet service. The car presented in a way that would hide the damages from us when it was time to pick it up.

Cons: Pictures online make it look very nice but they are deceiving. Upper pool is very small and you have to pay for a chair. If you want a free chair you have to go around back of elevator and you can’t even see the pool. Lower level pool is beautiful BUT it is totally in the shade all day. The pictures posted are from the main building but they have 2 other buildings, which is where we stayed, which looked much more run down. Bathroom was so small, there is only room for your toothbrush near the sink. The ice machine is outside, we were on third floor so very inconvenient. The walls are super thin, need I say more about that. Food at restaurants was good but service was poor.

Pros: I appreciated how they let me check in early and check out late. I also liked how they upgraded my room when I mentioned the room I was first put in was a little bit loud.

Pros: I liked that they keep you posted on the hottest clubs for the night and give you a great deal to attend.
Cons: I didn't like that the beach package didn't not include an umbrella, had to pay for the umbrella separate which is a little costly just for an umbrella.

Cons: Only reason why I gave lower stars is due to being kept up all night from the music coming from the club next to the building. This alone ruined the stay for me. Could not relax. Slept about 2.5 hours.
