Cons: The restaurants, while good, were never packed. Not much of a scene or bustle here.

Cons: The bed was ridiculously soft. It was MISERABLE. Back still hurting three days later

Cons: The pool was too cold to swim in. Next door resorts had very warm pools. No excuse for this. Very disappointing.

Cons: Price of food and drinks at the pool / beach was expensive, but it was what I expected when booking the hotel. Beach chairs were included in the resort fee, which was nice, but the fee didn't include a beach umbrella with the chairs...the umbrella was an extra $25 for the day (and we absolutely needed the umbrella because it was so hot outside).

Cons: We stayed there for a week and we didn't like: - Noisy, music everywhere, very loud, not smooth nor relaxing - noisy guests that staff did not stop, in my case, people came to the lounge with their own speakers - noisy rooms, better get out early, before 9 am or housekeepers will let you know you are lazy - fees for everything, it's ok to pay for additionals, but resort fee is not worth it (and it's a hidden cost), valet excessive, fees for receiving packages is expensive. I would recommend to bundle better tariffs and consider flat fees or caped fees for those who stay several days. After the second day, we ended trying to avoid every reason to stay in the hotel during the day. In particular, we avoided the pool, only one time tried to spend​ the morning there but could not resist the music of the hotel and the personal music of some guests.

Cons: The Roach that was crawling around the room. Took forever for housekeeping to respond to compliant I had to call the Loews 1-800 number to get service after calling front desk

Cons: i don't recommend for a vacation setting. hotel is very large, busy - not relaxing for a couple. Lacked the intimacy and romantic touches of other hotels catering to vacationers vs. business.

Cons: The only bad thing about this hotel is that there are sooo many families (mostly from Europe) here, that the pool becomes way too crowded. As a couple in their 20s, we had to avoid the pool, and stay in the ocean.

Cons: ATTN we were notified before our stay way before our stay there would be construction but how would I know I'd get the room right next to all the banging and beating

Cons: The pool is a bit small, but also felt very private and is Shaded by mid afternoon. Rooms were small, but still larger then some similar hotels I have stayed at in the area.

Cons: The balcony had an outside shower that my one friend accidentally broke by just pulling the chain to turn it on, causing it to dump water out nonstop with no easily accessible or noticeable turn off valve. We let the front desk know and it took them a little bit of time to have someone from maintenance take a look at it. Once he was up, even he was unsure of how to turn it off, attempting to turn several different knobs and valves throughout the room. Eventually, he was able to get the large flow of water down to a drizzle, but at the cost of the water to our room. When we needed to use the bathroom for the toilet, sink, or shower, we had to play with the nozzles ourselves to try and figure out how to turn the water back on to our bathroom while also turning up the volume of water outside too. It's a bit concerning as when we told the front desk they said it "happens all the time" so I am hoping that not only will they still return my security deposit on the room, but will also try and find a better resolution to what sounds to be a recurring problem.

Cons: They don't really have parking even though they advertise it.

Cons: A bit overpriced- our room did not have a microwave and the water in the shower did not get hot or warm the morning we were leaving. Spoke to staff but they were not aware of any problems regarding the hot water.

Overall they were try hard purchased a 6 pack of beer for us and the front desk giy not his fault. Also paid for our cab not good enough for how much we spent and where we wanted to ne at. We had plans with friends with walking of the property

Cons: Amenities: TINY room, missing refrigerator, mold in showers. Only two complimentary beach chairs (we had three guests). Location: Hotel is a little bit of a walk from the South Beach area where the major hotels are. There was also a SHOOTING in the alley outside of the hotel (we heard the gunshots from our room and it was confirmed later on the news). Misc.: We were also NOT told about the $20 per day "resort fee" that we were made to pay upon checking out.

Cons: This was definitely not a 4 star hotel. The building and furniture were old looking and outdated and needed some serious TLC. Looks like they haven't put much work into renovations in quite some time. The sink was cracked, the tile needed a cleaning, there was hair on the bathroom floor, it just didn't feel clean and new. The bed was super creaky and the carpet stained. Definitely not what I would have expected from a hotel with this rating. Maybe 3 stars but definitely not 4 and I could have gotten something much nicer for the same price.

Cons: The bar was under renovation so no drinks in lobby but who drinks in the lobby anyways.

Cons: Not one of the lamps in my room work. If it weren't for the high-hat lights the room would have been completely dark

Cons: The shower was dirty. It had mildew or mold growing in the grout. Also, the bathroom smelled like sewage, which is not necessarily the hotel's fault. Sometimes there is nothing that can be done based on the way the plumbing is set up. The only other time I have experienced this though, was at a hostel in Costa Rica. So it was a bit disappointing.

Cons: The staff was super warm, welcoming, and kind. The hotel recently opened and you could tell so a bit by the organization. My lunch took an hour and a half to come one day after having the wrong order delivered twice. My room wasn’t made up another day after requesting it to be cleaned several hours earlier. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and these seem to just hiccups of a new opening.

Cons: THE only downside of This hotel is that the rooms have a smell of mold/ mildew. You can tell the hotel is an old building that got a facelift and somewhere they left off the fix mold part. I opened windows daily to air it out so it was Manageable. Just definitely be aware of this.

Cons: The room and hotel could have been cleaner. I think it’s just busier and there isn’t enough staff to support it

Cons: The front desk staff was rude and gave us attitude when we complained. When my husband called at 1am in the morning to say the music is so loud that our floors are vibrating, all the receptionist offered was ear plugs... Seriously. The pictures online are really updated because the lobby and the pool area were really old and dirty. The roof deck was not even open, the only place to hangout was pretty much the restaurant which was super expensive. Definitely not staying here EVER AGAIN.

Cons: Kayak was great but Breakwater is a sleezy lemon. Upon our arrival at 1 am Saturday we were tired and eager to get to our room. The receptionist strongly persuaded us to upgrade to a much more expensive room for $180 + tax so it would be quiet. He then proceeded to charge my card but forgot the tax so asked me to give him my credit card again so he could charge the sales tax. He also informed us upon arrival there is a $22/day resort fee but this was not stated anywhere on Kayak. Also as we were dealing with check in another guest came up to the desk and asked for ear plugs because the club music outside the hotel was too loud. And YES it was VERY LOUD. We were in a room that was pretty quiet for what it was but on Sunday night, by boyfriend WHO IS A DJ wasn't even able to fall asleep until 4 am because it was so loud! The room itself had a nice view but it had a lot of issues from lazy upkeep. The bed sheets had stains on them, the bench at the foot of the bed had weird sticky dirt marks from removed tape stains, the bathroom tub was worn down cracked and stained (didn't use it unfortunately because it looked so gross), and the shower floor was cracked. Using the TV was also a mess. The remote didn't work and no channel guide. We tried multiple times to dial the front desk from the hotel phone to have these addressed but the line would disconnect every time we hit the front desk or 0 button. Not sure if they don't want to hear from you, the line is inundated with calls, or something was wrong with the phone. The staff has not been trained to be friendly and welcoming to their guests. They view us as a bother and just want a fast interaction so they can quickly move on to the next opportunity to make money. The waiters/waitresses at the front of the hotel in the morning were more concerned with snagging passersby (as every other restaurant on that street) for business than greeting their current guests eating breakfast. I said good morning to a few of them and received very cold and snobby responses. They didn't make eye contact with me and didn't offer any interaction. So rude! One day I was using a computer in the lobby and a manager was severely scolding a server right there in the lobby for doing something that wasn't appropriate. She was very nasty and mean to him, and the one way scolding went on for literally 10 minutes. It was so unpleasant and uncomfortable to witness that as a guest. The employees should have a private area they use for this kind of thing, not out in the public lobby! This hotel is appropriate for frat boys/college aged kids that want to party hard, trash rooms, and recover on the beach afterwards without making much effort in getting there. We were paying over $300/night for this room and it's evident the Breakwater heavily relies on their location to make visitors happy and turn over business quickly, but does not put in any other effort. Definitely won't be staying here again. :(

Cons: Not for older couples or families, this does not include me but it is a forewarning. I didn't know gratuity would be added automatically until I arrived at my first day. But I was advised on the first day. The cleaning ladies were on time and did a great job, so gratuity was worth it.

Cons: I could hear people walking above me. Their footsteps caused light fixture on my ceiling to rattle and both sounds were a bit annoying late at night. Breakfast was pretty bad. Everything was cold, in using the eggs, sausage and French toast. Also the total bill is a little more than what I thought I paid. The resort fee is included in the initial bill, without tax. The resort fee,with taxes, is actually charged at check out, which made my total about $8 more than expected.

Cons: Place is dirty. Stayed there in the past around 2 years ago and had a great experience. Place Has not been kept up. Rugs dirty, bathroom wall stained with something I would rather not mention. When checked in was told we got upgraded to Penthouse at no charge. Penthouse was old, dirty, filthy rugs with hot tub that did not work. Really??? Not an upgrade but a way to get someone in that room no one else would take. Declined upgrade and demanded the room we booked. Great location and staff but dirty. Also toiletries not replaced daily. Bring your own supplies

Cons: We tried getting beach towels twice, they were out. Didn't have more than one bath towel in the room, needed more before shower. They never came. 2 different service fees $22/day which really is $44/day.

Cons: Poor hotel management, and poor service when allocating rooms and requesting guests to change rooms. They tried to downgrade us on the first night (the room was already paid for), and also offered us to sleep at an other hotel on the first night because our room was not available. Not accessible. Swimming pool area: Bathroom at the pool could be the bathroom of a 2 star hotel, and there are no indoor shower.

Cons: I requested a late checkout, as I was unsure when I would be done with my meetings, and the gentleman at the front desk smirked and laughed at my request, which I did not appreciate. I do not fault the Royal Palm for this I still feel, despite this individual, I had an amazing experience and I will definitely return.

Cons: Our room was not clean and was in complete shambles when they sent us up there at check-in. (Imagine walking into a room that looks like a rock band had just partied there. We were speechless.) The Bellhop did not give us a claim tag for our luggage we dropped off so we had to go identify it in the storage room and the bellhop had the nerve to ask for a tip after. There was a significant amount of blood on the walls between the doors of our room and the room next door (how can you miss that? who is looking over this place??)

Cons: During my three day stay, I saw police at the hotel on two different occasions. Just not something you really want to see while your on vacation trying to relax. I know this is obviously something the hotel couldn't control. Too many items are stocked in the refrigerator inside the hotel room. There were so many items, that I could hardly fit anything that I had purchased inside of it.

Cons: CLEAN THE HOTEL! UPDATE THE HOTEL! GET THIS PLACE TOGETHER, BECAUSE ITS NEVER BEEN LIKE THIS EVER! FIX THINGS AND MAKE IT SEEM LIKE A HOTEL AND NOT A MOTEL!

Cons: the pool area was dirty all time

Cons: We stayed for two nights (March 18-19). Prior to the stay, a few days before arrival, I had tried calling the hotel front desk just to confirm the reservation and make sure everything was set and wasn't able to get someone to answer. The phone rang out and went to a weird voicemail that certainly wasn't representative of a hotel in this price range.. I went online to go to their site to find out that the James group had sold this hotel the previous Monday to Starwood Hotels. I couldn't find the new site since Google was still pulling James Royal Palm, and that it was still in business. Long story short, I called a Starwoods reservation line and they were able to confirm the reservation, and I told them about the advertised phone number and she said she would reach out to a team to fix that issue. Obviously just a transitional thing, but, for people staying it was a bit concerning. Other than that the only thing that keeps this hotel from 5 stars right now, and perhaps Starwood will fix that, is that when you call the front desk you don't get an answer. Not only with the previously mentioned issue, but calling from inside the room no one would pick up after 10+ rings. 5 star hotels to me would certainly answer the front desk call from people staying.

Cons: The hotel will nickel and dime you for many different resort fees.

Cons: Over-priced services, drinks and food...and they charged us a $30 resort fee per day which we weren't informed about when we first checked in.

Cons: Cheap renovations with premium cost of accommodation. Parking cost is unreasonable. Our first room had not been cleaned after the previous guests. We were switched to a worse/smaller room. There was no acoustic privacy.

Cons: Food was pretty good, but I feel like it was overpriced. The room was really expensive too, but I was there during a busy travel season/weekend. Like many south beach hotels, pool seating was limited.

Cons: Be aware any online prices don't include the $33+ "resort fee" just like the restaurants in the area include tip...the ask for additional tip. Very nice place but I hate not knowing the costs up front.

Cons: Housekeeping staff took my iPhone 6 charger and took the bottles of alcohol that I bought and placed in the fridge. They also took my razors. Also noticed that while they are on the floors cleaning they keep all of the doors open even if they have other people's property in them which makes it really easy for someone else to go in to your room and take your stuff.

Cons: They lost our reservation so it took a little extra time at check in, but they did upgrade our room slightly. Our room was inconsistently cleaned/restocked and the lack of staff caused longer than expected wait times throughout the property. The pool was also frequently 'full' with no loungers available.

Cons: Breakfast service was sooooo slow. We waited like 20’ to get only water. Only had cold water in the room.... and staff wasn’t responsive to fix it in a timely manner for us to have a hot shower... pool area is not nicely designed, lacks atmosphere. Royal Palm is milking a goat. Would not go back, there are better options for this price.

Cons: They have a club (very loud club) open Thurs-Sat and Mon nights until 4 a.m. You can hear and feel the beat all night until...we were very disappointed that no one told us about this problem.
